I know blokes who can get punched in the head numerous times and not even flinch. Some of these guys are short, some are tall, some are skinny, some are fat, but generally they're big fat blokes with no neck. What gives them the ability to take a punch? People say big neck muscles, but some of the strongest blokes I know can't get hit in the head to save themselves. Is it a thick skull? Is it alertness? Is it a short neck? Thoughts?

Never been in a blue on a footy ground or in a pub somewhere?

Know lots of guys that go through life without having to take a punch to the head. Is it some sort of initiation or badge of honour.

In answer to the OP - IMO 99% luck and 1% thick skull

My mate said he could take a punch then the next week he got knocked out lol.

Its all garbage and has to do with senses. If you know its coming you tense up and your body prepares yourself for a hit. If your almost relaxed / King hit you get knocked out cause your brain shakes inside your skull which causes you to go to sleep.

No badge of honour-just for anyone thats played a bit of footy, you would think a barney would erupt somewhere. Been in a few on-field, try to avoid it off-field.

Same.....on field is ok.....you throw a few and ur all mates after the game. On the street is different story.

Most people around football clubs have been in a blue on the field or got hit high a fair few times. Also, many have been involved in boxing during pre season training or dare I say it got hit in the head a few times in town. Some blokes can take it all day and not even flinch, then there are some blokes who go down like bags of potatos even if they are built like brick shit houses. You also get a fair few blokes who get concussed every few games and eventually get told they shouldn't play football anymore.

I think I'm in the thick head club, took an upper cut from a big (B Hall type)bouncer once, scarred my chin with chunky cut and left a graze 2'' wide from my chin to the top of my cheek. Taken more than my fare share in my playing days but it took a delightfull chap I'd just called a wog whom replied with a roundhouse to the head to K.O me.

This is Spot on and Very true. Hence Cowards allways try to hit you from behind when you arent looking and then gloat about how they knocked someone out..

I'll never forget working the graveyard shift in the city one night. Some meth-head was causing trouble. Skinny little nothing of a kid but when he took a swing at the bouncers and they returned fire he took at least 6 massive hits to the head before even taking a step back.(Bet he woke up screwed as shit though, scary drug)

All I know is that I don't like being hit myself. I've never been knocked out but I have been knocked down a few times.

I'd imagine it's all about just knowing it's coming as someone has already said. Thankfully all the lads who had a crack were at least decent enough to do it front on. A king hit would be devestating I can't even imagine what it would be like.

I have taken punches everywhere. I can generally take them except when I'm drunk, then even the smallest hits seem to have devestating effects. I have always wondered why skinny little kids on drugs can take so much bigger/heavier hits to the head? Just on the piss, it seems that a few drinks will make me able to take the big hit better, but more than a few will make me soft as butter.

I've always been able to take a punch. Never been knocked down, even after being hit numerous times in the head. I don't know what it is. I do have a larger than average head, I dunno if that helps.

With that said, everyone can be knocked out if hit in the right spot. The hits Ive taken have all been forehead, back of the head, cheek, eye etc.

I'd imagine if someone caught me flush in the jaw I'd be gone.

Thats it Chism.

When you knock someone out front on and they know its coming then you can say you can punch.

Its like in footy.....you drop like a sack of sh*t if you dont know your going to get smashed. As you enter a marking contest your body braces itself for impact which will prevent you from getting injured.

Aboriginals have an amazing ability to take punches or hits to the head yet they buckle with hits to the legs. Never hit an aboriginal in the head. Always "sweep the leg."

Sounds like you've belted a lot of them. Any reason?

Yep you'd be gone. I have seen and done it before and regret it now.

Fighting isnt worth it. After you drop someone and their lights go out.....other than in a boxing ring it should be a real wake up call to bigger consequences. It is by far my biggest regret in life getting into alcohol fueled fights when I was younger.

Maybe he was confronted by a group of indigenous chaps who asked for petrol money in a less than gentlemanly fashion, and he proceeded to belt the living suitcase out of them. Unfortunately, a relative of mine was belted late one evening by a group of aboriginals for refusing to, ahem, 'donate' money for the betterment of indigenous Australians. I will call him and tell him to "sweep the leg" in future.

Heard the only place to hit an aboriginal, if you insist on the head, is the point of the jaw. Can't say I've ever tried it though.

Yep, thats the 'Button'

If you feel behind you ear, just above your jaw bone, you will feel a bony ridge on either side of your head. That bony ridge protects a bunch of nerves, and a punch landing on the point of the chin drives the jaw bone into that bunch of nerves, causing temporary paralysis, disorientation and loss of co-ordination (K.O.). This method is effective on people of any size, race or colour.

This'll sound like BS, but it's true...

Im slim build, but can take massive amounts of beating to the head and never get knocked out....punches, head butts, blind king hits, baseball bats, falling debris, being hit by a car, etc.

I don't know if it's this, but i find it interesting and a possible reason....

1. I cant ever sleep, my brain constantly in conscious mode, even when i sleep it's constantly interrupted with me waking up every few minutes, and barely 2-4 hrs a day where im lying down trying to sleep in total.

2. I've seen doctors to prescribe me the heaviest sleeping pills, but they never work again after the first time. It's like my system builds up a resistance to something.

3. Ive had many operations, things like broken bones, ligament or tendon damage, appendicitis, etc, been in hospital a lot, and the doctors have trouble knocking me out with drugs. I mean injections, cocaine sticks, and multiple gas and it still doesnt knock me out, or it's taken so much to knock me out that i end up in intensive care for a couple weeks after a simple day procedure. A few times during bigger operations ive woken up mid operation and they couldnt knock me out again that they had to continue with me conscious, balling my eyes and being strapped down gritting my teeth thru it.

I have the same problem and spent a large chuck of my life trying to get by on 3 hours sleep. Always tired, and like what you said sleeping pills were only good for the first few days. This will sound left field and a bit woo woo, but a friend suggested I look into astral projection. The basic idea is to get your body to fall asleep and try to keep your mind awake...and then your mind drifts off into other worlds.

I don't use it to project but I can get my body to completely shut down within 30 minutes until I'm in sleep paralysis. Takes a while to master, but if you can't sleep its the next best thing to getting 8 hours rest.

That's an interesting idea. I tried using a genuine hand-me-down american-indian dreamweb, but it didnt help me sleep, just stopped the horrid nightmares. I cant live without it still.

You got a link to a guide or step-by-step process to how to astral project? I wouldnt mind trying it if i knew how to even try.

Bloody hell, thats one of my biggest fears. Did they just keeping going with the operation? MORE INFORMATION REQUIRED:o
