its not my body and i would love that my opinion got taken into account if it ever happened, but it isnt really my choice and if the woman believes that is her best option it is her choice.

Without the womb (the woman) the living fetus wouldnt be living so its entirely the womens choice.

I have subsequently a life altering news that reinforces my original standpoint.

On the 13th of January 2009, my mother called for a family meeting. I presumed we had won the lottery or Mum or Dad had cancer. Unfortunately and fortunately respectively, it was neither.

My mother had been contacted by her son that she gave up for adoption before I was even born. My Dad knew early on into their relationship, but they had chosen to keep it from my brother and I, and to allow the adopted son the free will to not know his lineage should he so choose.

But he has made contact this month and I have had a half brother introduced into my life like a Neighbours or Home & Away writer has decided to spice up the script!

The most poignant sentence in his initial letter was this: "Thank you for giving me life.".

At the time, Mum would have not had any choice but to adopt the child out or get an abortion. Single motherhood had a horrific stigma. So she chose to adopt the baby out, and frankly, he has landed on his feet wonderfully.

In Australia, adopting a child is exceedingly difficult. There are huge waiting lists and innumerable quality candidates willing and able to grant the child the best possible shot at a good life. There are very good supports for those who choose this path.

Undoubtedly, I still favour clinical abortions for those who of their own volition consider it their only option. However, you don't need to be spiritually inclined to understand possible positive causes and effects from carrying the child to term and offering him or her to what will most likely be a good home. My newly extended family is sufficient proof of this.

Your mother is a good woman for doing that imo.

Two of my best mates are adopted. It has been difficult to deal with for them at times, but the alternative would be much worse.

I'm ok with abortion being available btw, I just think adoption is a better choice.

Abortion Linked to Higher Rates of Domestic Violence: New Research

April 20, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - When a woman gets an abortion, the couple is more than twice as likely to argue when discussing future children, and nearly three times as likely to experience domestic violence, compared with women who carry the pregnancy to term and raise the child, according to a study published in the peer-reviewed journal Public Health on Mar. 24.

"Abortion may play a vital role in understanding the aetiology [cause] of relationship problems," the authors stated. The study said that abortion within a current relationship causes 116% more arguing when discussing future children, and 196% more domestic violence.

The researchers found that abortion affected future relationships as well.
"For both men and women the experience of an abortion in a previous relationship was related to negative outcomes in the current relationship," they wrote.
"Men whose current partners had an abortion were more likely to report jealousy (96% greater risk) and conflict about drugs (385% greater risk).

"These results suggest that abortion may play a vital role in understanding the aetiology of some relationship problems," the study's authors wrote.
Dr. Priscilla Coleman, a professor of Human Development and Family Studies at Bowling Green State University headed up the study with Vincent Rue of the Florida-based Institute for Pregnancy Loss and post-abortion researcher Catherine Coyle.

The study's findings support previous research that has found higher rates of substance abuse, serious depression and suicide after abortion. In March 2008, Britain's Royal College of Psychiatrists issued a statement calling for better screening and informed consent before women undergo an abortion. The statement said that the College had undertaken a review of existing research and found that a "full systematic review around abortion and mental health is required."

In 2005, research conducted in Finland found that aborting women were 3.5 times more likely to die within the next year compared to women who gave birth
