really? i nabbed the cheapest ticket available for myslf and it cost me $51. (including booking fee)
so are they selling family tickets for cheaper than 2 adult tickets?

$90 plus booking fee - works out same price as 2 adult tickets.
I guess it is to encourage people to bring their kids along.
Not many sections available at that price though.
$92 for same deal at the MCG in week 2.

Family tickets could not be bought using the Ticketmaster website, punters who wanted one needed to go and line up.

Single, regular tickets were Bronze for $45 (6 Bays, minus the sections belonging to cheer squads), Silver for $55 (20 bays), Gold for $70 (21 bays), and Platinum for $80 (22 bays), plus 41 Bays for SANFL Members.

Those 6 Bronze bays sold out within the first 25 minutes of tickets going on sale, so unless you were near the front of the line at the Ticketmaster outlet, you didn't get a Bronze family pack for $90. Best bet was $110 for the Silver areas, though again for the first final they sold out pretty quickly as well. It was then $141 for the slower selling gold bays.

Can get family tickets over the phone, $110 is still okay value for silver seats - plenty of them were empty especially up on the top level.

Let's face it, despite it being a bit pricey, if the Crows were on fire and people thought they would win then the place would have been full. Pies crowd was also a little disappointing for the same reason.

AFL might be in for a bit of a shock next week, prices are substantially higher than the semis, will definitely affect the crowd, expecting 50 something to both games.

i went to South Sydney's NRL semi final against Canberra last night - $25.

Will be going to the preliminary final against Canterbury next Saturday night too - $35.

In contrast, SYD v COL on Friday night this Friday is going to cost me $70.

The NRL game on Saturday will have 70k attend.

The Swans match deserves this many too but it won't unless a heap of Pies fans in Melbourne can organise their day release.

It's embarrassing to say it, but my club has more 'bandwagons' than most. We have 10,000-15,000 who mysteriously appear when the going is good - you only need to look at the crowds during the Robert Shaw era to see how quickly they can drop off. There were still a few who left when the margin was under a goal to ensure they beat the traffic, however it was a trickle rather than the usual flood.

On the flip-side, the lack of bandwagons meant for the first time in a few seasons, Friday night felt like a 'traditional' footy crowd - loud and even a bit intimidating.

Roll on Adelaide Oval - will be no issues with small finals crowds there.

I'm a Crows supporter who went to the first final, but didn't go to the second one (I was working). Reality was that of the 5 people I went to the first one with, none went to the second final. Why? Cost, plain and simple.
I have a silver membership that results in a cost of about $25 per match for my seat.
Suddenly in a final that seat is now a Gold ticket and costs $70. If I want a decent seat its $80+

For many supporters with kids etc..., that is a very costly outing. It also happens to be the same time as the Royal Show (which is the most overpriced piece of shit ever). This is the same every year and every year (when we make finals that is) the AFL question the poor crowd in Adelaides finals.

Drop the ticket price so people can afford to attend and you will sell out the place. The AFL are pricing themselves out of the market because of the 'premium event'. What BS. It is about supply and demand. At those costs the demand is low. Simple.

Not one of those 5 people said "Wait, we have 2 home finals. Lets go to the 2nd, more important one?"

I'm not in favour of high ticket prices, but AFL Finals tickets are still relatively low in price compared to major sports in other countries. I know it isn't entirely appropriate to use different sports/markets/populations, etc. ... but AFL finals tickets are not such a bad deal in my opinion. There are going to be many people who can't afford them, but such is the way of the world.

As some perspective ... I live in Austin, TX. It has a smaller population than Perth/Adelaide, although there are other large population centres (Dallas, Houston, San Antonio) within several hours drive. A ticket in the bleachers to a regular Longhorns football game costs $90. If you want a good ticket, you will be paying a few hundred bucks. The stadium holds 105,000. The economy over here is in a worse state than Australia, and in general everything is much cheaper here ... but sporting tickets are not one of those things.

you were on the right track in your first paragraph.

the AFL market isn't Texas.

You price a product for a market.

if the AFL want to help broadcasters increase their ratings by keeping folks at home, then they're doing a good job.

Successful leagues and clubs manage to increase their attendances/sell out stadiums as well increase ratings and help maximise revenue for their broadcast partners. NFL & NCAA football does it well. Their ticket prices are astronomical in comparison to Australian prices, but the demand at those prices is there.

How many AFL members are there and how much did it cost them to go to the Collingwood v West Coast game? What about MCC members?

Terrible effort. I haven't seen Melbourne play finals since 2006. I'd kill to watch another. Half hour later starting time? A bit more expensive? Not against a huge team? What a soft effort by all those who didn't turn up. It's not like Adelaide is a consistent finals team anyway, being 14th last year.
Adelaide are actually the most consistent finals team this century!

Why do people care so much what ticket prices for the AFL compare to other sports overseas? Last time I checked this is Australia.
Ticket Prices are waaayy to high.
A lot of people in SA dont have a hell of a lot of spare cash. I maybe wrong, but I thought I read that we are one of the lowest paid states, but the highest taxed, also have the highest energy and water prices in the country (I think).
Show being on is a reason. You know some people like to do things for their family and not just go out and do what they want.
A lot of Crows fans are bandwagoners.... losing the eay they did the week before wouldnt of helped.

A few factors come into play here.
One of the major ones that people are forgetting is that many adelaide fans come from rural areas and just would not have been able to make a friday night game.
Also the cost is rediculous. You're forgetting that if a family wants to go to the game its going to end up costing them about $400. Thats way too expensive for most families. Plus we arent rolling in dough over here like you western australians.
Plus from many accounts those 31,000 were louder than any adelaide crowd has ever been (heard this from a couple of different people who have been members for 10 years)

Seriously?

Yep, pretty good deal.
Quite a few, including myself, tend to go to neutral finals because it is so cheap in weeks 1 and 2.
In fact for the Cats vs Dockers game because the AFL reserve was no where near full you could just rock up and scan your card at the gate and get in for free.

Not according to Chris Scott

There were a lot of friendly Adelaide supporters to.
But we did cop a fair bit of verbal abuse during the game. C bomb, f word, etc.
Beer thrown at a fellow supporter, flag stolen apparently.
Even got a threat for starting a chant (didn't take it seriously of course)

In the end we had security to escort us outside the ground (probably didn't need it)
But the crowd was pretty vocal as a whole so that's good then!
