Yes the people who make the decisions don't ever have to pay for tickets.

When Andy D goes to the Mens Final of the Australian Open he doesn't pay, he's a guest of tennis australia

When the President of Tennis Australia goes to the Grand Final, he doesn't pay either, he's a guest of the AFL

Neither of them have to pay the high prices each other charges for their events
The thing which shits me the most is these rich nobs and company men who don't pay for their tickets actually get all the best seats... which they sit in for a quarter or two, before they go back to their table/bar and discuss ways to make more money.

The most loyal fans who spend the most of their hard earned, keep the AFL clubs going and turn up to every away game are the ones who must sit up in the nose-bleed seats, or stand up the back of level one.

At Etihad Stadium, they just rub your nose in it.

It's a disgrace.

Over the past 20 years, the Crows fans have always been pretty good and packed out Football Park for nearly every game. I always wondered why they didn't move to larger stadium that held more than 45,000-50,000.

What's going on in recent years that Crows fans have become soft and are picking and choosing the games they go to?

Is this what happens when you play to the same (exclusive) crowd every second weekend and deny new fans and potential members the opportunity of developing a hardcore barracking interest? Have they kept the same basic 30,000 footy-goers for the past 15-20 years and most of their fans are just conditioned to watching them on TV ?

Couldn't have put it better myself.

No my main argument is that it didn't sell out because you could still buy tickets through ticketmaster. ;)

Not sure if this is true or not. I'm disinclined to take your word for it. They were calling it sold out in the local media from Thursday, and there were no tickets available from the gate.

Eagles v North failed to sell out

A few seats at best. They would have been single only, probably restricted view, and unadvertised as the match was advertised as sold out. I was there, and it was packed.

A fair difference to 10,000 tickets available before the game, with visible empty spots in the stadium.

Adelaide are set up as the 'state' team (self proclaimed). Call themselves the 'pride of South Australia' and have 'The Team for All South Australians' emblazened across their headquarters. They also wear the state colours. In their biggest game of the year to date- they manage 31000. A very poor crowd. I know this is like the pot calling the kettle black but for all their marketing advantages, this finals crowd was very poor. I think Adelaide's lowest ever in a home final?

They have been set-up by the sanfl to have a massive marketing advantage. They do not make the most of their advantage- I dont believe that this is Adelaide's fault. Just as I dont believe Port Adelaide's troubles are solely the fault of Port Adelaide. But that is a topic for another conversation. But Adelaide and Port work to some pretty big disadvantages- Port stuggles with this more than Adelaide.

Too Expensive? Give me a break, people in WA would give their left leg for a final ticket.
There was 6 tickets left mate, and the reason they didnt sell is because they were single seats, who wants to go to the footy alone? So yes it is relevant.

Yep don't believe me, and don't believe the TV commentary either...

Clearly no one wanted to give their arm and a leg for a finals ticket if they couldn't sell the Bill Walker room.o_O

And from straight of the West Coast board... posts on September 5th and September 6th...

Still not sold out!?! Maybe it's the weather putting people off. Apparently its nice weather forecast for the weekend.
27 Sunday ...... Slip, slop, slap, booooooooo!!!!!!!! :p
There are some good seats for sale now, I assume maybe corporate seats not taken up now for general sale
Would be a stuff up if they didn't get 40000 through the gates.
Hey guys, if anywanys ground level seating. My mate can't go anymore.

Selling them for market price (not scalping). 2 tickets block 110.

PM if your keen
Will there be an email/announcement if/when it officially sells out?
I would say their Bill Walker room $230 a pop seats didnt all sell so they put them up for the public to buy.

Bit of a rip off if you ask me.

Not sure if it is the Crows decision or the AFL's to set the ticket prices at the price point they did... I am guessing the AFL.

Either way, some economist on the payroll clearly ****ed it up.

As an aside, I find it quite distasteful that the prices jump significantly for a final. Members fork over the dollars every year, generally show up in good times and bad, pay 5.50 for a low quality hot dogs and cheer their teams on in the hope that they will one day again taste September glory. Then when it happens, many of them are priced straight out of the market for tickets, with the ticketing agencies knowing that the cashed up theatre goers will probably swallow them up anyway.

I understand it is a business, but the afl does pretty bloody well financially as it is, and taking a slight hit on profits to protect and reward the stakeholders who keep the money ticking over 365 days a year seems to be the better option IMO.

So what are you putting all your effort in trying to prove then? That WCE can't sell out finals games? That WC fan's aren't that passionate about their footy? what are you trying to achieve? o_O

You do realise nothing you quoted there backed up the point your trying to make (if there is a point) we were surprised it didn't sell out in half an hour, and that's a valid argument for saying we can't sell out a final.

Very disappointing. AFL has to look at it. Obviously a number of factors but have to think the method for selling tickets for a final compared to a normal game may have had an adverse impact.

You guys have NFI if you think any other clubs would get a better crowd in similar circumstances. Not many people can afford to go to two finals in six days with the show on at the same time.

West Coast would have got exactly the same if they were in the same position.

A few years back when ticket prices were much fairer we got 50k to an elim. Go figure.

Yep, thats why there was sold out signs at the ticket counters at the game. Because you know, quoting people from wednesday before the game on an internet message board has so much more validility than a sold out sign on ticketmaster booths.

Definately not. Subiaco have averaged over 35000 at each game this year, if the members didnt fill the stadium the public would have. There are alot of "WA" supporters over here, alot that go for both teams and footy fanatics that will watch both the eagles and dockers.

You've never been to WA have you? watching football is essentially a part time job over here. your comment couldn't be further off the mark. We are one of the biggest richest clubs in the country for a reason

I wonder if the Pies and Hawks finals fail to draw 60k+ the AFL will come out and acknowledge they've got a problem with finals tickets.

Week 1 of the finals were masked by the strong turnouts at the Pies/Hawks and Eagles/North, from here on there are no WA finals or cross town finals between Melbourne teams to mask the attendances.

...and as for the Swans final, unless Collingwood make the Preliminary Final I fear 50k is about all they can hope for the Swans final (it'll be going head to head with the Manly-Melbourne Preliminary final...a big grudge match in the NRL)

I guess it would have been disappointing considering the expectations the rest of us had. I have always viewed them with the likes of West Coast, Essendon and Collingwood who can pull a crowd no matter what the circumstances are, especially to a final.
It was only 2009 that they pulled 50,393 against Essendon in an Elimination final (Although there were a lot of Essendon fans there).
Apparently the number of tickets sold was similar to last week so cost couldn't be a factor

We've established that prices were the same for both finals. I can't imagine that Sydney draw that many more fans than Freo, so...what's the story? I haven't seen one explanation on this thread that makes me any less confused than I was last night.

Is it really just that a lot of fans lost the desire to shell out $45-$55 for a ticket once their path to the grand final involved a trip to the MCG to play Hawthorn?
