Would we have any interest in a player like Cody Weightman?
Probably not he's more a marking small forward than a pressure forward. Overhead marking is his best attribute for a small forward.

A player like Bailey Lambert is a free hit.

Boyd Woodcock?

Who I 've rated right back to his draft year especially his Grand Final game for the Roosters as an 18 year old worth a look?, out of his Powa rookie contract at the end of the season or is he another "spud" you don't rate?

Haven't seen enough of him. So that's probably a positive

Keath was 100% the correct call to trade when we did. 27 years old, 1 good season, wanted a payday and we were entering a rebuild with pretty minimal youth stocks. It's as cut and dry as it gets to send Alex to market and bank the picks for it. We didn't do a great job at the trade table with it, though not as badly as Greenwood as at least we got a second-round pick for Alex (and I think we dealt that to move up to get Brayden Cook). We also got Gollant from it, though I think that part was a downgraded pick. Still, it depends on who you draft if they'd delay a rebuild or not more so than keeping the senior player. If Cook and Gollant become solid contributors (if not more), then keeping Keath would have delayed it. Kids are truly the only thing that matters when it comes to a rebuild.

That said, we're pretty flush with KPD prospects, as much as we're married to a dumb 1-tall structure, but being married to ridiculous KP structures is truly a character trait of this club right now. Worrell will be a jet with careful development (ok, he'd probably end up a jet within about a month if we played him seeing he has a decently advanced intercept game and we're a bottom four side, which would artificially inflate his impact), though he'd replace a good chunk of what Keath produced pretty quickly. McAsey looks like a solid prospect but probably doesn't have the superstar ceiling, but another shutdown defender in the Butts/Talia mould. Borlase and Murray are both ok prospects, who'll likely have a career in the right situations.

It's certainly the area of least concern at the moment.

I also completely disagree with the list management comment. It's been pretty spot on for the early parts of a rebuild. We've aggressively burned down our list and restocked it with a lot of youth which is really the main thing for this stage.

this just utter nonsense. You can back the truck into any position if you try hard enough

the most far fetched gymnastics though has to be saying that it was the right decision to go to the market & bank the picks, but casually glide past how we got **** all in doing so

we misread every ****ing thing on Keath & Greenwood, literally every ****ing thing and still people will try and reverse into thinking it was a good idea

we need both now, today to support our rebuild.

His pressure is looking really good at the moment. Watched a couple of 'Scray games this year - he's deficient in a few ways and you'd be real cut up to want Kozzy Pickett and end up with him, but he's having a real crack and improved the pressure out of sight.

Riley Garcia's the other one at the Dogs I'd love to look at if opportunities don't arise. Couldn't hit a target to save his life, but he's zippy as they come, works his guts off and as aggressive/hard/tough/competitive as they come. Would make a great small forward if he can't forge a career as an inside mid.

"i just think some that they let go were the wrong choices."

Which of these guys would you have kept?

Greenwood (3-5 year deal on ca. $600-700k)
CEY - can't get a game for the lions
Betts
Jenkins
Douglas
Gibbs
Atkins
McGovern
Brad Crouch (5 year deal)

CEY has been injured I think. His name was brought up when discussing Neale replacement in a player interview and said he was right now and had completed full training that week. That's only 1 or 2 games ago.

I don’t think we can keep Fog and Walker, one must go. I think we should ask Walker to retire.
Himmelberg and Frampton are still not proven. We need a leading type and Fog is that and a good kick on top.If we lose Fog this year and Walker retires the next year, we are stuffed. Thilthorpe is going to be good and I think he and Fog will make a good tandem. Walker has given his all and has been a fantastic player for us but it’s time to go. Maybe he can be a development coach instead.
I would rest Walker for a week or two and give Fog ago at full forward.

That assumes that Fog is good enough to be Walker's replacement, an assumption which is not supported by any evidence shown to date.

That said, I have no objection to resting Walker, and seeing if Fogarty is capable of stepping up in his absence. If there's any year where this kind of experimentation is to be encouraged, then it has to be this year.

Am I the only one who thinks we'll only take 1 guy at the mid-year draft even though we can take extras to cover injuries?
Correct. It will once again be a mind-boggling decision, but we will probably grab Davis and that's it.

I hope I'm wrong and pull a few surprises. I wouldn't be against us grabbing Callow from Norwood.

No. I'd be surprised to see us take anyone other than Oliver Davis.
You may be right, however, it would be a seriously dumb move to only use one mid-season pick. We have basically 4 players out for the season - Milera, Hinge, Murphy & Lynch (Lachie and Tom may play a couple towards the end, but will have negligible impact on the rest of this season). Also, Talia & Gollant unavailable for 1-2 months. Added to this is the profile of our list which (as we know) is the youngest in the league, and we all know young players struggle to maintain their impact over a 22-game season. Additionally, banking 3 mid-season picks gives us some 'insurance' in case of more injuries in the second half of the season. And, furthermore, during a rebuild we shouldn't be passing up any opportunity to bring talent to the footy club, regardless if it is not high-end.

Added to this, we are already one short on the list with Gibbs/Stengle gone since end-of-20, replaced only by Murray.

I didn't say it was a good idea... I said that's what I expect them to do!

I wouldn't mind them signing players to 6-month contracts, but I would have a major issue with anyone who demands an 18-month contract - given our well documented issue with finding enough departures to meet the ND requirements already.

He’s probably not what they need - inside ball winners are probably what they’ve got enough of - Cunnington, Simpkin, LDU, Powell, Anderson, Dumont, Phillips & Thomas all happy to have a crack.

He doesn’t really have a second position either. There are a lot of very good inside mids who don’t get too far because of a lack of a second position. Even blokes like Setterfield are playing VFL.

We’re probably one of the few clubs who could make some use of a pure inside mid though. So wouldn’t mind us having a crack.

My apologies if this has been covered before but can anyone explain to me why Alex Keath is not on our list this year? I read where he was apparently keen to stay but (presumably) wanted a 3-year contract instead of 2.
Given that we plucked him out of obscurity, put two full years into preparing him before getting one very good year out of him, why on earth would we let him go!? It's not as though we're flush for KPPs.
Bewildering.
I said at the time that my preference was to keep him by giving the extra year... particularly as we gave him away for peanuts.
