I find it slightly baffling that so many people think the club will be bottom 2 next season which coming after a season winning 7 games would be nothing short of a failure and represent a regression.

Why do you find it baffling that people would think the club would fail and regress?

They’re going on two and a half decades worth of evidence.

Everyone else around us has improved their list too though

Hawthorn didn't improve their list, neither did Gold Coast. Collingwood will just about bottom out this year, they are a year at least behind us in development. Richmond didn't improve, Freo went back, St Kilda hasn't moved but could be good if they forget about last year. West Coast didn't improve.

North improved late last year, and added CCJ and Greenwood, I consider them to have improved. Carlton improved by including Cerra.

Unless you are including 18 yo draft picks who mostly won't do much for a couple of years, even JHF and Dacios, where do you see the improved lists around us?

Are freo, St kilda, west coast and richmond even considered to be around us?

Injuries plagued hawthorn for the most part so they should get better (although a large assumption in that depends on how good Mitchell is as a coach).

Gold coast lost greenwood but also could get back a fit Rowell with other younger kids naturally improving, NM have improved their assets greatly.

The only team on our level that probably didn't improve at all is Collingwood, but they seem to be regarded as spoon favourites anyway.

Fair enough, a difference in opinion to me.

RE Freo, Saints WC and Rich, they were all out of the 8 last year, so I consider them around where we want to be 2022. I also consider WC and Rich to be on the slide, Freo and Saints on the rise/ trying to work out how to get a game plan that will work if they are to improve.

That's fair, maybe im just more pessimistic about our 2022.

Gold Coast played most of the year without a ruckman will have Witts back and have added Chol as a handy 2nd ruck and very handy key forward to support King, a fit and healthy Rowell who had 9 brownlow votes in his first 4 games, Rankine finally getting a full preseason in, his first since being on an AFL list should show his real talent, 2 key defenders back from injury after being very under sized this year, Hollands another star early draft pick over his knee injury played some reserves games late this year and having a full preseason plus the development of about 20 more first rd draft picks most being top ten picks, If they finally get a decent run with injuries they could be big improvers

With only 6 main listed players out of contract (Walker, Himmelberg, Frampton, Hinge, Rowe, Gollant), and needing to upgrade Butts and Strachan, I wonder if we are expecting list sizes to increase next year.
The AFL promised that they'd go back to normal in 2022. They lied. They've also promised that they'll go back to normal in 2023. Is anyone holding their breath in anticipation?

You'd have to think that Walker will retire, and only 1 of Billy/Berg will survive (probably Berg), and Rowe needs someone to give him a dictionary for Christmas - so he can find out what the word "defence" means. We only have our 1st & 2nd round draft picks, so we won't be making many selections in the ND.

Fingers crossed we get a 1st round pick, using our 2nd to match a bid on Michelanney (F/S). That, and the Strachan/Butts upgrades, would potentially finish our ND in the first round.
