Adelaide vs Freo gameday

First quarter from us was awesome, and the game was never in doubt after that. McPhee really set the game up with his marking inside 50, was a great move from Harvey. I would list off other players who were great, but nobody played a bad game.

Commentary was pretty bad though. I have no problem with Dwayne Russell trying to make it sound closer than it was, it's his job after all. But the love for Dangerfield was a bit much for me. Maybe I'm just sick of the Dangerfield hype over here in SA as he is overrated like nobody else, but seriously he has nothing on Ricciuto and I doubt he ever will.

Well I thought the commentary was apalling. I'm not usually one to bother much about it but the difference in the way they called our players and The Crows was embarrassingly one sided. Fyfe was absolutely chopping up, as were Hill, Suban yet when Dangerfield got the ball it was like Ablett Senior was back playing the game. Our goals were often beautifully constructed yet all I kept hearing was lucky when things were going our way.

Still it makes it sweeter watching DeeWayne having to plaster a smarmy smile on his face on Teh Winners while trying to find something disparaging to say about us on Monday.

On the game, it was superb from our boys. They were relentless today in pressure, skillfull in transition and tackled fiercely in the forward line. McPharlin is playing career best footy in the backline and young Fyfe is a stone cold star.

Roberton clearly needs to work on his fitness but gee he shows good signs in terms of poise and skills. Pitt is another big win for our recruiters. Once he puts some bulk on and gets more condition he will be yet another thoroughbred to add to our young stable.

I'm suddenly way more excited about the rest of the year with Barlow, Ibbo and Rodger all to come back at some stage. Depth at last!

I felt that it was the best team pereformance I have ever seen from dockers Defenitaly showed how players respect the Pav well done boys

Make no mistake, this was a good win. Adelaide will play finals and you can tell Harves knew it was a good one. Skills were down because of the conditions but game plan and endeavour were A1.

yep very much agree, as bad as we were last week at times, this week we were equally brilliant. two early away wins are like 4 home wins absolute gold...... im not letting myself think about when we get barlow back, because every time i do i may need another change of pants :D

Barlow, Mzungu and Ibbo can all make an impact. I just hope Sandi isn't out for long. Rotten luck

barlow hasnt actually trained with the main group.... im beginning to wonder if he will play this year at all :(

mzungu has never played an afl game and will need some good time in the wafl to get into form and force his way in, i do think he should make an impact.

I like Ibbo, but he has never been and will never be a player that has taken the game by the scruff. in fact if someone like lower were to make way for him id be upset, as i think lower has been vital for us.... ibbo coming in should allow us to free up broughts though, which is probably where his real value will lie.

Sandi got a poke in the eye, probably a lacerated cornia or something, unless he has a detached retna or the like i wouldnt think he would miss a game. he seemed to have a fair amount of bruising and swelling external of the eye, hopefully it is pretty superficial

Lower was really good again today as well, great pickup. Strong mature body, can win his own footy and is a great tackler.

Very pleased with him. What we are seeing is how important it is to have competent people involved in drafting . Simply if your drafting is poor all is lost.

If Mzungu didn't get injured he would of been a certain starter for round 1. I am disappointed that Barlow is still yet to train with the main group. They said like a month ago that he was close to resuming full training. As for Ibbo this could be his year. He has been around long enough.

If Ibbo returns that means he will replace Suban
Now Suban is playing great down there in that role.
So hopefully he can continue his good form in the midfield which is where i believe he is best suited(doesnt have height or a jump to compete in defense).
So a lower, palmer etc could go out to make way for Ibbo.

That reminds me what does everyone think of Palmer seriously. I have given him the benefit of the doubt for so long but the guy is just nowhere at the moment. He is only a shadow of the player that won the rising star award in 2008 and he is so low on confidence. So far this year he would of made more mistakes than anyone else in the team and he takes waaaaaay to long to dispose of the ball. He needs to be the one dropped when Ibbo returns. I get so nervous when he gets the footy. He needs to get Jayden Pitt to teach him how to kick a footy.

I like Palmer but he slows the play down too much and will lose us a game soon. Do we show faith and keep playing him or give other players a chance?

Your above statement would appear not to be true. I think people are looking for him to make mistakes so notice it more when he does it as apposed to others. He doesn't make as many as people think.
I think his decision making is what lets him down at times.

The whole football world looks at him with knives out whenever he has the ball.
He feels that pressure an tries too hard, takes it too cautiously.
He makes no more bad decisions than fyfe, pavlich etc

Ever since he looked like winning the rising star award ahead of the vic medias love child cyril rioli, they have been highly critical.

He is very unfairly judged
His disposal efficiency is = to and above alot of midfielders who play the same way as him.
Yes he is not a great kick but gets the job done more often than not but when he does spray one its ugly an alot more noticeable.

Unfortunately I think the only way Palmer can get this negative attention of his back is to get away from the spotlight by going to play for GWS or GC etc.
Without all the outside pressures he will be back to the 30+ disposals a game at around 70% disposal efficiency an also kicking goals.
Simon Black mister silky skills, throughout his career has had a low disposal efficiency of just above 60%

season 2011 stats
Clangers
Mcphee 13
Lower 12
Pav 11
Duff 11
Fyfe 10
Palmer only 5

Disposal Eff %
Pitt worst 55
Fyfe next 58
Bradley 59
Hill is ranked 13th in our team for disposal eff with 70.59
Palmer 14th at 70.21

When guys like Hill Pav etc make terrible mistakes everyone just accepts it.
When Palmer makes one everyone pulls the knife out because everytime he gets the ball there looking for a mistake to jump on.

Only things i can criticise Palmer on this year is not getting enough of the ball.
Needs to be getting 20+ when playing full games.
An still needs to work on the defensive side to his game.

Where do I apply for membership to the David Mundy fan club?

Ask Memories

Roberton clearly needs to work on his fitness but gee he shows good signs in terms of poise and skills.

I gather you have that moment in the last in mind where jaensch I think it was easily ran past Robbo who appeared to be stuck in mud and continued to labour behind in the chase!

Robbo's fitness shouldn't be an issue. He is in the top 3-4 in the club for endurance (at least as 3km time trials go). He certainly ain't fast though. It was also the last quarter so maybe it was also a case of Robbo having run himself into the ground and Jaensch being a stay at home forward with fresh legs.

Pav's biggest influence on this game may well be his games record - looks like the boys are well and truly up for him.

Havent read through the whole thread, but did anyone manage to read Pav's lips during the pre game huddle on the ground.

Could have swore he said "Play for each other, not for me", and that is exactly what they did from the first bounce.:thumbsu:

Regardless of what the Vic media say, one of the best modern day captains!

Not sure about the bit in purple - I think Elvis was playing better both last year and in 2006. Grover, on the other hand, is clearly in career best form. And at such a late stage of his career, and when we are down a couple of KPDs from last year (Tarrant and Silver), it is wonderful to see, even if he can't make it last for the whole year.

Agree with the bit in green - Fyfe is really stepping up, for someone who was "just a forward" when drafted he is showing the best of the modern game's trend towards constant midfield activity all around the ground.

Roberton clearly needs to work on his fitness but gee he shows good signs in terms of poise and skills. Pitt is another big win for our recruiters. Once he puts some bulk on and gets more condition he will be yet another thoroughbred to add to our young stable.

Both Roberton and Pitt showed great skills under pressure, given the conditions, the fact we were away from home, and that both are under 21. Great recruiting, and hopefully we can keep fitting both into the side, at least until Barlow, Mora and Zunga are fully fit.

I'm suddenly way more excited about the rest of the year with Barlow, Ibbo and Rodger all to come back at some stage. Depth at last!

Not sure Roger is such an essential for us anymore - still a great weapon for us to have, but both Pitt and Roberton have shown they can hold down his spot if needed, and I suspect Michie and Crichton could also do well down back, as will Zunga. Great to have depth, and young depth at that.

I felt that it was the best team pereformance I have ever seen from dockers Defenitaly showed how players respect the Pav well done boys

Not sure about it being our best team effort. I think the wins last year against Geelong, Sydney and Carlton, and a couple of our early derby wins against the odds in the mid 2000s, were better team efforts. That said, it was a great show of both the squad's feelings for Pav, Pav's feelings for Freo, and our ability to step up when Sandi went down.

Make no mistake, this was a good win. Adelaide will play finals and you can tell Harves knew it was a good one. Skills were down because of the conditions but game plan and endeavour were A1.

Indeed. Very important win away, much like the Brisbane win away, and agree that Harvs was pumped (and rightly so) after the game. Important to focus on next week though and not get ahead of ourselves.

Completely disagree with all of this. IMHO he is a couple of weeks of WAFL away from being ready, and when he does come back, Ibbo is likely to come in for Walters, Pitt, Roberton or Crowley, hardly Suban. Neither Lower or Palmer are in any danger from Ibbo. Different players, different roles. Especially against the Kangas and the Dogs, we need Suban, Lower and Palms.

Up there with the wharfie time super capes quote as one of our best captain speeches ever. Keep it up Pavman...
