The finals train leaves behind the Crows and Suns, and rolls on into a couple of blockbuster prelims next week! First let’s wrap up week two…

Crows v Hawks, Friday night: What’s the collective noun for a bunch of Crows that doesn’t fire a shot when it matters? A murder of impostors?? Seriously, I don’t think there’s ever been a minor premier that gave less of a yelp when the real stuff started. Some are saying maybe they just weren’t ready for finals… fair enough, that might be why some of the kids were over awed. Feel free to provide an explanation as to why their experienced senior players didn’t bother turning up either. Anyway, on a more positive note, how about the Hawks! It shaped as an even finals series where the team that finished eighth might be able to do some real damage, and so it’s proved. They’ve dispensed with the fifth and first placed sides and now they’re just a win away from a Grand Final! Remarkable. Loving the work of Jack Gunston too. Only a month or so away from his 34th birthday and yet he’s not just mentoring the young forwards, he’s leading from the front! 70 goals for the year and counting. Impossible not to be excited about the latest installment in the Cats-Hawks rivalry next week. Going to be spectacular.

Lions v Suns, Saturday night: Ok, here’s a team that might not quite have been ready for a deep finals run. The Suns played like men possessed last week but they weren’t up to the task of backing that up against the battle-hardened Lions. As such, the first ever QClash final turned into a total fizzer. Daresay Gold Coast will take a fair bit out of this, and hopefully we won’t see such a flat and uninspiring performance if they make it again next year. Keen to see what Brisbane’s got for us next week now though… did the Suns flatter them tonight or are they genuinely back in form? Either way the Magpies at the MCG will be a vastly different assignment, but they’ve got all the ingredients to beat them if they’re somewhere near their best.

Learnt: The final four is probably a neutral's nightmare, from the top eight we had heading into the finals.

Cringe Fetish GIF

5 non Vic sides, and of course all but 1 remain.

I'm kind of glad the Hawks and Lions won big though, hope the prelims are both crackers. Good prelim matchups might be the only silver lining to come out of two boring semis.
Might wanna rephrase that mate...

Lived: i think Caro is right about the swearing thing. Fight me.

Laughed: ROB’s attempt at a forward 50 entry

Loved: Newcombe’s game
No, totally agree. When I first saw that she was complaining about someone swearing in a post-match interview, I was ready to roll my eyes at the clutching of straws, but when we saw the examples from Daicos and Chol, it was pretty ordinary by them.

Hated: Footy season is almost over

Andy Maher and other fans of that AFLW competition will come hard at you if they read that comment. You’re not a real footy fan if you believe it ends for the year in a couple of weeks, so I’ve been told.

Liked: Not much, at least there was no umpiring controversy. Well done Steven King.

Learnt: Someone at Gold Coast is having a laugh with their playing strips, it was worse than Hawthorn's training guernsey against Adelaide?

Hated: It was a typical 2nd week downer of finals, this season has really had very little spark. The AFL have a problem, but i doubt they know it? Gold Coast strip, Hawthorn strip... ankle socks (should be banned)

liked - Gunston fantastic performance and great to watch

learnt - Adelaide just couldn't recover from the Rankine incident - and badly let themselves down

hated - suns just couldn't get up again..

Learnt.

Great clubs that are consistent and run beautifully off field continue to resurface at the business end of the season.
14 of the last 24 premierships between the 4 teams. Plus 9 other GF appearances.

Throw in Richmond's 3, Swans 2 and West Coast's 2 that's 21 between 7 clubs.

3 for the other 11.

A few clubs like Essendon, Carlton and Melbourne for example, just need to get their houses in order off the field before crying about players leaving. Ask themselves why these players want out.

Supporters of clubs complaining about how boring the top 4 is need to ask hard questions of their own clubs.

The least I've been excited for finals in many a year, the same teams going around again and again 😴 all deserve to be here and play a brilliant game but there's no storyline, no underdog, no fairytale this year. We've been spoilt in previous years and this year pales in comparison (imo)

Get behind Hawthorn ending a 10 year drought AND continuing the legacy of at least 1 premiership a decade!!

Everyone wants it
The Hawks are universally loved, the greatest team in all of world sport. The best colour combination on team gear.

The best coaches
The best everything

Liked: Lions winning and back in form has scared Pies fans shitless

Learnt: Crows brand of footy showed zero physicality. Hawks just walked the ball through

Hated: That the Poos and Wees army wearing their little dicky hats will be out in full force...no one wants to smell Piss and Shits on the sacred ground.
