The finals train leaves behind the Crows and Suns, and rolls on into a couple of blockbuster prelims next week! First let’s wrap up week two…
Crows v Hawks, Friday night: What’s the collective noun for a bunch of Crows that doesn’t fire a shot when it matters? A murder of impostors?? Seriously, I don’t think there’s ever been a minor premier that gave less of a yelp when the real stuff started. Some are saying maybe they just weren’t ready for finals… fair enough, that might be why some of the kids were over awed. Feel free to provide an explanation as to why their experienced senior players didn’t bother turning up either. Anyway, on a more positive note, how about the Hawks! It shaped as an even finals series where the team that finished eighth might be able to do some real damage, and so it’s proved. They’ve dispensed with the fifth and first placed sides and now they’re just a win away from a Grand Final! Remarkable. Loving the work of Jack Gunston
too. Only a month or so away from his 34th birthday and yet he’s not just mentoring the young forwards, he’s leading from the front! 70 goals for the year and counting. Impossible not to be excited about the latest installment in the Cats-Hawks rivalry next week. Going to be spectacular.
Lions v Suns, Saturday night: Ok, here’s a team that might not quite have been ready for a deep finals run. The Suns played like men possessed last week but they weren’t up to the task of backing that up against the battle-hardened Lions. As such, the first ever QClash final turned into a total fizzer. Daresay Gold Coast will take a fair bit out of this, and hopefully we won’t see such a flat and uninspiring performance if they make it again next year. Keen to see what Brisbane’s got for us next week now though… did the Suns flatter them tonight or are they genuinely back in form? Either way the Magpies at the MCG will be a vastly different assignment, but they’ve got all the ingredients to beat them if they’re somewhere near their best.

all deserve to be here and play a brilliant game but there's no storyline, no underdog, no fairytale this year. We've been spoilt in previous years and this year pales in comparison (imo)
