STATE OF PLAY:
  • The game is out for Steam and PlayStation. There have been issues with Xbox release and it is unclear when the game will be available.
  • Big Ant are aware that there are playability issues & bugs at present.
  • Content has been temporarily removed from the game to identify where the issues lie.
  • This content will be re-introduced via patches in the coming days.
  • Big Ant have released a summary of what is to be reintroduced, which can be seen below.

I think "being in control of your player in an interactive videogame" is pretty important though.

I never said it wasn’t. I’m just saying with things like the kicking, that I understand Goldberg’s opinion but to a degree I disagree with it also. The player movement should be the top issue to be patched in now, I would hope.
 
Anyone else getting a glitch where a mark isn’t paid? Whistle blown, mark shown in the bottom corner yet it’s effectively a play on.

Have been instantly tackled and caught holding the ball despite not moving off my mark at all.
 
Also, they've got the same terrible mechanic from Evo 2, where you can can't rotate on where you've marked the ball and when you are looking for an option. That was a feature in Live 1, it's not in 23. This video is what I mean.


99% sure Evo2 did fix this, and with a button press, allowed the player to pivot the player who has the mark/free kick (and camera also rotated which was great) in all 360 directions.

Also, are there currently, or will there ever be aerial contests where both players go for the mark and neither marks it? Feel like that's a pretty big part of footy...
Agree, if they’re anything other than a huge mismatch in heights, then at least 75% of these 50/50 contests need to end in no mark (especially since the “behind” player, whether AI or player, should be spoiling).

Again, rather than the devs trying to refine it to a precise ratio, if we could just have custom sliders, everyone could set the desirable amount of non-marks in contests
 
The player movement/turning would help precision kicking.

100% agree. As would the reduced AI chase down teleport tackling. I haven’t played since Friday and I’m on PS5 so after tonights patch keenly awaiting to see how much better it is.

I'd also like the kicking meter to be able to be filled up quicker, it's too slow for the pace of the game.

Yeah, the AI certainly doesn't seem to be encumbered by that issue with their insta passing.
 
Does injuries and interchange work yet?
I noticed injuries on launch on management mode, however it doesn't say the injury type or length. It was only visible during the team lineup too.

Yeah, it's wild to see comments like "it's so much better now!" like Jesus Christ just how bad was it if this is considered "much better"?

I like that idea. Also the screen shaking and vibrating a bit too would be good. 2K does this if your player is shooting free throws in the final minute or so of the game and its close. At least then its different from 1st quarter atmosphere!
Same with Madden when running plays down as an away team. Would be a great add once gamplay is sorted for big moments, games on the road in Adelaide or Perth, as well as during finals

I mean, on release,pretty bad. It went from whatever the release was intended to be to like a late alpha version.

There's still some shonkiness as shown in the video clips, but those are snippets of course. It does have competent moments, still a lot of improvements to come of course. I had some enjoyment this morning on PS4 v1.04, admittedly working around the obvious present issues in that version.
 
why tf can't you sprint more than 15 metres, I cannot seem to find an auto bounce setting, it really ruins the gameplay for mine. Does anyone have/know of a solution

Yep. I don't know what game others are playing to say its so much better now because the 3 matches I've played after the latest patch have played out like that. The game is in an atrocious state and will take more than a week of patching to fix.
 
BigAnt, any chance the PS updates will be posted and available to play tonight? Or is it more likely to see it downloadable tomorrow morning like the others?
Of course there's a chance, but it's dependent on PS. Expected to be available anytime from 8pm to 2am.

Could it be the computer that people are running it on? Like my game has not been crashing, and the gameplay is smoother (still congested) than that of thursdays initial release. Just a thought...
