Seems like patch notes are out already .. not sure how to feel about it.. thoughts?? 👀

ITS GONE LIVE ALSO! Just got it on PS5 = 1.7GB

So we can conclude Training mode, along with single player mode just never existed and they’ve taken us for a ride since day 1 🤣 I swear this mob never fails to deliver on failing to deliver.

Is that budgeting something that would easily balance the other way though?
i.e less on graphics == hire more programmers to write gameplay code.

Or would you more go for
less on graphics == less on overall game (save costs)
Or
less on graphics == more to the same programmers, just more programming time (meaning artists doing less, or working on other titles, programmers working on it for longer == game releasing later)
Yes, less artists, no photographers, more programmers. 23 had too much wasted on presentation and graphics, it wasn't worth the effort. I remember telling game_chromosome that in 2021, before 23 was even announced. He concurred that Aussie Rules games suffered because of the art direction.

Yeah fair enough.
From my mates (that don't play the game), they're constantly saying how AFL games 'look like FIFA 98'...
So for some, it's a big reason to have more money put into that side.

So this leads me to the ever controversial, early access option. What do you think about releasing this in early access sooner, at a much cheaper price and then using the community input to iron out issues and perhaps add things to the game to make it better?

The game would have a 100% playable season mode and practice modes, though some gameplay elements and other features would be expanded upon during the early access phase.

Just a thought as I want to get this game released, though I do not want to mislead you guys at all.

Haha game_chromosome's early access indie title was to be more fully featured than Big Ant's full retail release at launch 🤣 With better communication as to what we were going to get too!

But you still get those comments with AFL 23, and it's just impossible to ever compete with EA or other triple A titles with their graphics. There's endless art styles other than the photo realism style that look great and don't blow the budget. I'd love an Aussie Rules game that looked like Disco Elysium with rotoscoped animations.

The problem with footy is that no matter how good the graphics look up close, it counts for nothing when you zoom it out to a playable camera angle.

I think that's an insurmountable issue for footy games pouring money into "realistic" graphics. A camera close enough so you can see what's happening, but far enough out so you can hit up a teammate 40m away.

May as well lean into something more I dunno the word but artistic. The vibe of Nic Nat rather than photorealistic dreadlocks that move according to accurate physics 🤷‍♂️

P
Yeah I agree
Their forum is nothing more than a quick ego boost
Still dancing around all the genuine questions that haven’t been answered. Literally no different to when they were on here.
Actually that’s a lie, they’re no longer calling their own customers clowns. But that’s about it
Possibly because none of those customers are allowed on the BA forum?

You need to just relax and let that man work on his game without you trying to make it the greatest footy game ever. It's becoming borderline obsessive the way you constantly bring it up. We all want a great game but he's just one bloke doing his best, let him be for a while!

I'm sorry, Ross.

Yeah there's scaling for this. I forget the exact term.... but you get the lower quality models from further away (maybe can tell a guy is tall or blonde), blending into medium quality models a bit closer (tall, blonde, muscular)....blending into high quality models when zoomed in (tall, blonde, muscular, handsome, with a bad-boy scar on his cheek :p )

It's LODs - level of detail.

Yeah I get that, it just seems to me to be a lot of effort for something most people won't see because they skip them (goal celebrations and the like).

The alternative is to piss everyone off by making them unskippable (hello AFL 23's coin toss).

Games that are zoomed in close to the action like basketball it makes sense to go all out on high quality graphics. But even then, NBA Jam looks great 😊

Luke Bruest still doesn't look like Luke Bruest :(. Evo 1 & 2 did his likeness far better (even if he looked like a Lego block head in one of them).

Graphically the game does look very very good and bigant should be proud of what they achieved there.

Some things gameplay wise, like kicking and the way the players move around the field (not just 18 1 vs 1’s) are so good that it makes the things that don’t work stick out even more.

It’s frustrating because it’s just close enough to a good game to make me believe it’s possible for BigAnt to make it happen

The fact that they uploaded that footage and now Mitch Robinson hasn't even played their game once on his YouTube channel speaks volumes here. XD
Mitch Robinson would eat his own shit if he was paid to do it, its laughable people take anything he says seriously.

People can't seriously think Pro Team is going to be some saviour, played a game online lately lmao? Its not even stable enough for that mode to exist in the first place, hence so called testing carrying on for weeks on end despite it supposedly being ready for launch months ago..

Theres being supportive of an AFL game and there's just being delusional.

Wasn't Pro Team meant to help struggling ex-footballers? And Chris Judd?

Imagine trying to explain to these gentlemen of a certain vintage why they're still waiting for their royalty cheques?

Noticed questions being deleted on the BA forum too, shameless after being strung along now for three months. I’ve never seen anything like this.

Chuckled at Ross selecting the one comment that wasn’t about the game to respond to after a few earnest questions about what the end game plan is for afl 23.

Pretty much how I see it.

I've been playing a lot more the last couple days, mostly Management Mode and honestly I've had some pretty enjoyable games so for me its not a complete loss. But its frustrating knowing there's a lot not quite right or outright missing.

Every time I knock a ball to the boundary and expect a deliberate free kick to the opposition.. Never happens. In match injuries... Never happens. For a game that gets so much of the simulation aspects pretty good, its weird those fundamental bits of the real thing is missing, that even Evo 2 has.

I just can’t get past where we were told we’d know everything pre release yet here we are

EB still lists this as the commentary team:

  • Commentary featuring Anthony Hudson, Hamish McLachlan, Daisy Pearce, Daniel Harford, Kelli Underwood and Jason Bennett.
