Seems like patch notes are out already .. not sure how to feel about it.. thoughts?? 👀

ITS GONE LIVE ALSO! Just got it on PS5 = 1.7GB

So we can conclude Training mode, along with single player mode just never existed and they’ve taken us for a ride since day 1 🤣 I swear this mob never fails to deliver on failing to deliver.

Nacon has a bit of a bad run of late. Gollum is literally a meme and the state of AFL 23 hasn’t been what they would have envisaged. They would likely want attention and resources diverted to Cricket 24 which is why we've probably seen such a delay.

Their market cap is as low as it has ever been, a lot of bad press. AFL the least of their concerns.

How long did ‘weekly patches’ last? Literally a week or 2? Same thing for the daily patches, I recall maybe 3 in the same week for PS5, then it was 1 the following week and the last one was 15th of June. If the next doesnt drop this week it wont be for another fortnight I’m predicting. Hope its not the case but so far Big Ant have been quick to cut off their timelines/trends pretty often.

The Gollum developers have literally pulled out of game development following that disaster 😬

I’m not actually sure it really got off the ground

I think JT mentioned that there is a team still working on AFL23, but at a guess, they probably want to get Cricket24 spot on for release, and you can’t blame them for that.
Although getting a game spot on for release, should be their mind frame for each and every game

Is it a hard game to get used to the mechanics of? I want to buy it but I'm not sure if I'll get the hang of it.

I struggle with sports games like Madden just because there are so many combos. I'm also pretty average at fighters. Mortal Kombat I am absolutely useless at it but did okay with DBZ as in finished quite a few of them.

However I do okay with Fifa and MLB the show.

Not hard to get used to but I suggest holding off until/if it’s fixed. Still not worth the $100 as some mechanics are still broken and there’s a lack of depth to the game

That's fine. I just want to clarify too because this all went in a direction that I didn't intend and want to apologise for any confusion.

I'm not really into making lists of things that can and cannot be posted and never have. I'm more it's Mabo, it's the vibe. The post chain that started all this were heading more down the direction of how their patches were being handled and we've been around in enough circles here to understand when we're 4-5 posts away from another derailment or pile on. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the sleuthing of when the next patch or whatever might happen. Lacking features I understand there isn't much else to discuss other than the state of the game too.

Here's the thing that Dan touched on before. We're done. Some of the earlier periods of this saga were the most trying in my time here. We became the front platform for communication with a developer and constantly had new people signing up seeing this to air their frustration or just general feedback. The moment they wanted to take communication to their own platform was a god send because we couldn't go on. Now what's happening, and as if nobody didn't expect it, they're more strict on content posted there so when somebody has their post removed there they come back here to post or vent it. We don't want to be that platform. It sucks that they won't answer everything but it's no longer a problem for BigFooty.

And while in the more meta posting discussion, some people take their post being deleted too personally. Trust me, it's rarely personal. A lot of the time there is collateral because an innocent post might look out of place or just encourage the direction we tried to snip to keep going. Some have found this out the right way by reaching out and we cleared it up. Others have learnt the hard way by taking it personally and doubling down. Always feel free to reach out to either of us if ever unsure.

I'm hoping there is a lesson in here. Stop pre-ordering games, or at least exercise your right to return shortly after purchase. It's harder to return later on when you've got skids all over it. Once this practice stops or at least lessens it may make developers a little more accountable.
Thanks for taking the time dwwaino, crystal clear and it helps a lot. Thanks.

I’ve lost all hope after today. Clearly BigAnt want to pretend like their game is perfect and turn a blind eye to obvious issues.
I was under the impression that handballing was bugged and once that gets fixed, that I’d enjoy the game much more. However it seems after 2 months, they clearly weren’t listening to the feedback

I'm sure they are.

I think what's happened is they are sick of engaging. Some things will be improved, others will be quietly left alone and BA are over being told they did a bad job. They are going to achieve 'X' with this one, people are going to complain, they'll be more worried about the bottom line. AFL23-gate will end with a whimper, not a bang. I guess the BA disapproval camp can take it as a win that there has been an outcome for them on this board. 'We' can lob as many grenades as we want but there comes a time where it's not worth the developer's effort.

Ok, So how long before Nacon pull the plug on Big Ant then? What's our bets on this?
With the greatest respect, that's ridiculous. Terms will be commercial in confidence, Nacon will be crystal clear that AFL is Ross' passion project. It will never be a convo about one game nor would BA have walked into this sale completely powerless. Our best window into the future of this series will be the sales figures for this game, that's all that matters.

But the lack of meaningful communication has been most people's main bugbear.

Tear strips off the competition
Promise the world
Abuse the consumer base
Fail to deliver spectacularly
Refuse to explain/provide roadmaps/acknowledge certain widespread issues

It's a recipe for disaster. If that's engagement then I'm glad they're sick of it.

I've enjoyed it to a degree.

Does anyone want to mention the WW engagement? TB? Dead set crickets, about as insipid as it gets.

For sure Ross took the bait and no doubt there were would have been some hairy moments in BA HQ. As the big cheese it's his job to take the risk while someone else delivers. He oversold, shit happens. I don't get why people have taken Evo 2 crits so personally and expected all his statements to come true. How many people lose it when an actor says a movie is really good and it sucks? Or a literally any creator anywhere that gets it badly wrong. It's almost expected these days and I think there's a limit to how contrite we can expect BA to be. Especially when x% of the player base is happy enough (the majority of which we'll never hear from).

Ending on a positive, there is one or two chapters still to write for AFL 23. Wherever all this lands, no one knows for sure just yet.

i'm pretty much done with this game now, only thing i use it for now is doing rebuilds with clubs on management mode but even that is broken. Was really looking forward to using the academy in this game but cant use it without some form of the academy crashing. A real shame after all the hype i had for this game

I’m currently running my second season as Brisbane on management mode. First Season I played on hard 22 wins 1 loss on 5 min quarters ended on a pretty good percentage.

Off season I thought I’d test the waters with trading some players/the salary cap which I’m almost certain does not work, unless I just don’t understand how it works. I obtained, paddy Cripps, Josh daicos, Jordan Dawson along with a few others as well as basically my whole team.

Currently have won 11 lost 1 with a for and against of 780 and 279.

Team is pretty much a god mode cheat code lol. Have you had any issues with salary cap?

I've signed guys to million plus deals over multiple years and not once has the salary cap been mentioned as an issue.

I'll admit that it is. That post was more of a joke on the comment about Nacon closing the studio that made Gollum. I don't think Nacon will close Big Ant over this. Though I do think they'll probably take more control over Big Ant Studios from here on out.

Hmm it must be non existent then. As well as those guys I picked up who I put on 5 year like 800k plus deals, I’ve also got other players I kept who I resigned also on 800k deals.

There was a page that popped up mentioning something about the salary cap and player contracts. I told the ai to handle it and then there was no other problems. Maybe down the track I might not have enough money and have to cut some players time will tell.

I think its also his job to not oversell something he knew he couldn't deliver. He didnt just oversell, he completely over-estimated and spectacularly underwhelmed everyone with what was meant to be ‘the deepest AFL game ever’. Literally nothing he said about this game ended up being concrete truth. The release date changed, the feature list revealed wasn't the final one, zero clarifications on Xbox delays (its not shipping issues, lets not believe that lie either). Nothing was ever a BA fault either apparently, which again is a massive cop out. Simply put, dont make promises you cant keep, especially as the CEO because now you’ve made yourself and your company look ridiculously amateur.

Even now post-release, people with ailing concerns are told simply to submit bugs to a support team which allows top notch delegating instead of pretending to care about the fact people shelled out hard earned money on something that is practically the opposite of what was promised. Cant wait for the new patch and Pro Team though, should 100% fix everyones grievances……

Yeah but how smooth was the animation in that Mason Cox gif that nobody asked for.

I think at this point BA need to come out and admit this year's release has been a bit of a stuff up and commit to fixing and adding to the game and make it as good as possible for the start of the 2024 season (with updated rosters). Then once that is all done with, go for a year and a half at making AFL25 the best footy game we've seen.

How long did you play it for? And how did you contact Steam? Please, give us a tutorial for us Steam users to get a refund.
I'd played for 26 hours. I linked the ACCC article about Fallout 76 here: EB Games undertakes to refund consumers for the Fallout 76 game

Then I just listed off features missing/often broken, local co-op, online matches being nonfunctional or impossible to find, the pro team gamemode that is so far non-existent. After 4 attempts it eventually wore them down.

Yeah, If there is any hope of salvaging this game or hope of making it a series of games on their end. They're gonna have to go that route IMO. They have to build back up trust if that's even possible at this point.
