No comparison. It doesn't have the "Open Bowl" feel of AAMI, but more of a coliseum feel of the MCG. The pics in this thread don't really give a true indication of the actual size of the southern and eastern stands and just how close to the play the spectators will feel. Other than a couple of seats in the nosebleed rows where the stanchions cut off the views of about a 1/4 of the ground (maybe a total of 50 or 60 seats) you will have no dramas seeing ALL the action. Anyone who has seats in the front couple of rows of the top decks will have the prime viewing experience

NO-one will miss AAMI after going to Adelaide Oval

Oh I so can not wait. will be awesome.

Sounds good, really good, I am glad they captured that coliseum feel even though it had to remain open. It's the best part of just sitting inside the MCG. Hopefully there is an intimidating feel for opposition supporters down in the open end and then looking up at 3 big packed stands. I imagine a wall of sound coming at them and drowning them out.

Also wasn't concerned about the top deck being anything like the Northern stand at AAMI, have sat last row of the top tier at Etihad once and you just feel like your on top of the game looking down, rather than some distance back from it. If its anything like that people who think they have been moved to worse seats due to have to fitting a tier and a half of people into 3 main levels will be pleasantly surprised.

For anyone wanting to see some video footage of the oval yesterday, enjoy haha

Cannot believe that the Paeer cheer squad would carry out such a disrespectful act. This is so cringe-worthy, and down right rude. I actually feel sorry for the Port fans out there who do not endorse this, because this makes the whole supporter base look like rude and arrogant flogs. I don't follow the Redbacks, (and neither do they obviously) but there's that level of respect that all people need to show towards any level of sport, but they threw all of that out of the window. I hope that "cheer" squad get what's coming to them. /rant_over

P.S Noticed in the interview with one of the flogs that it says underneath her name "life long PAFC supporter". I'm pretty sure she looks like she was born before 1997. How can she be life long?

P.P.S: hdecure - Cheers for those photos mate. Looking very impressive!

There was something wrong with that video - the 2 ladies talking sounded normal

To anyone who went, How did it feel in terms of seeing over the ground compared to AAMI? It's always been a turn off for me going to games in the fact that 60% of the game I don't know what's going on (although I finally got glasses).

When this idea was first floated I was totally against the re-development and the move.

I spent about 4 hours at the Adelaide Oval today and was totally blown away by it. :thumbsu:

It is going to be an outstanding facility for watching footy in relative comfort. I tried watching the cricket from all 4 levels, and seriously, it doesn't matter what level you watch from, you get an outstanding view. Because of the much steeper seating at Adelaide Oval, you feel that you are far closer to what's going on.

Toilets are in abundance compared to AAMI, but they only had a couple of food outlets operating today to cater for those stupid enough to pay their ridiculously dear prices (I did because I ended up sooooo fkg hungry).

I never was a lover of the horseshoe shape of the stands, but while I would prefer to see the Southern stand replicated at the Northern end, I admit that they have managed to merge the past with the present well at that end. I still wonder what effect this lack of stands at the Northern end will experience from strong Northerly winds. AAMI's large Northern stand has been a great help in diminishing the effect of wind in a game, but obviously that no longer applies. We'll see.

Apart from that, I think that those in charge have come up with an outstanding stadium which people will enjoy going to and watching live footy. Roll on season 2014. :) :thumbsu:

Quick question, is the whole match free or was it just yesterday ??

Get used to it, pretty much had it confirmed today that there will be no outside catering for the footy, they want to do it all themselves.

Indoor training centre I presume?

I think you are right and I'm certain this is the facility that will host our after match functions (the Shed mark 3).

I also popped down for roughly 20minutes on my way home past the Oval. Didn't take any photos as I was in a hurry but I must saying standing outside the Southern stand looking up left me speechless.

Might head down after work tomorrow for a better look if I get time.

Northerlies are a negligible problem in winter. The design looks perfect for keeping out the howling winter southerlies.

Also, the SACA will never agree to put a stand on the hill that blocks out the view of the trees and cathedral over the old scoreboard at the cathedral end. Never. That is what gives Adelaide Oval its quintessential English cricket oval feel and gets it consistently voted in the top cricket grounds in the world. The compromise has been struck and it will stay how it is.

The crows wouldn't need another 15000 seats anyway, let alone port.

Old habits die hard, don't they? :)

While the decision may well be the same, it's the SMA that participates in such decisions these days, not the SACA, which is just another tenant.

Well, until we win the world cup and Adelaide is forced to put a stand there.

More likely it'll happen in 5-10 years when the Fig trees all mysteriously die at the same time, from what will be revealed 3/4 into the build to be a poison, with the culprit never found - but in honour of the valiant trees, the main bar in the new northern stand will be named 'The Fig Tree Bar', where punters can spend $11 on a Super Dry.

If a Super Dry is only $11 in 10 years time I'll be amazed.
