If Essendon ends up with those three it will be bloody fantastic but it is simply not going to happen.

Tenace may slip to six, McLeanmay slip to 13. What he was thinking placing Ricky Dyson at 28 is beyond me. Sydney would take him at 16 over Stanton easily. Also can't see him being missed by the Lions, Tigers and Cats with 18, 21, 22.

If Will Gayfer is still there at 28, Essendon will take him but this is very unlikely to happen. Will go to Port at 15.

Also think Watts will be picked up before the Crows' #14.

Lions:
18. Brisbane Lions – Llane Spaanderman (East Perth)
23. Brisbane Lions – Sam Butler (Central District)
33. Brisbane Lions – Aaron Davey (Port Melbourne)
49. Brisbane Lions – Alex Gilmour (Tassie Mariners)
61. Brisbane – Paul Duffield (South Fremantle)

Spaanderman @ 18 and ignore Ricky Dyson. You must be kidding.

If the Lions go for Spaander maybe pick no 33 in place of Aaron Davey.

Happy with Gilmore @ 49 and Duffield @ 61 is theft.

Personally I feel the lions will pass on picks 61 and 68 or use them to pick recycled players. One to look for is Dragicevic.

Backups for Lynch,

Daniel Merrett
Daniel Bradshaw
Jared Brennan
Justin Leppitsch
Michael Voss
Clark Keating

Merrett 19
Brennan 19
Bradshaw 24 Your comment is without foundation.

From all reports if Bill Morrison is selected by the Lions it will be a reasonable pick.
The Lions have plenty of options post Lynch for FF.
Your will find that Voss and Leppitch will rotate or even establish a permanent position at Full Forward.
Bradshaw will be used more and more covering the back line.
Merret will be blooded for the next couple of years for a key position.
Brennan will be the logical replacement for White when Whitey retires at the end of 2004.

The lion’s think-tank has all the options well and truly covered.
The first two selections will be based on the best player available system rather than covering specific positions. That is way I don't think they will go for Spaanderman.
Anyhow will know soon.

Yeah, I will be surprised with Spaanderman.

Regarding Merrett, he'll make his debut next year.

Luke Weller and/or Jarad Wright. We'll re-draft one of those. With Morrison now out of the picture, I'm favouring towards Weller.

Our list is 32, the minimum we are allowed to have is 37.

That leaves picks

18
23
33
49
61

With pick 61, we'll re-draft Weller.

Pick 68 is a mystery. We'll most likely lose Copeland, so 5 picks will bring us to 36.

I think we'll only use our first 5 picks and have a list of 37 after Saturday. If Copeland is delisted, we'll use a pick in the pre-season draft, in which we will either pick Wright back up or gamble on Dragecevic or possibly use it for Daniel Pratt.

Bradshaw is too inconsistent as a forward.

Brennan will be better as a CHB.

Merrett is unproven, and was hardly a big name in last years draft. Therefore my point is valid.

Daniel Merrett.

Perhaps. Unproven at best and may go the way of Jarrad Wright for all we know.

Daniel Bradshaw

Increasingly going to be used in the backline methinks.

Jared Brennan

Doubt he will make a good full forward. Half forward flank, and perhaps CHF.

Justin Leppitsch

Would use Leppitsch at CHF and Brown at FF, before Leppitsch at FF.

Michael Voss

As a permanent full forward? No way.

Possibility but at the moment he's very good value in the ruck. If that was the case, why wouldn't you pick up another tall as back-up for McDonald, Charman and McLaren?

I believe we need another tall on the list.

One of Spencer, Morrison, Spaanderman, Watts will do nicely.

I don't think we will draft Bradley, Morrison and Blake together even though they are all fantastic youngsters b/c we already have the tallest list in the AFL.

Our VFL side would become the land of the living giants.

We really need to hope and pray Tenace slips through to 7. The Dees now look like taking Dunn so its up to the Bombers to take one of Bradley, Clarke, Burges or Trotter.

If we grabbed Tenace we could probably get a Morrison at 22. Or even take another gun midfielder (Dyson/Nash:D ) and hope that McConnell or Steward is around in the 3rd round.:D

Tenace, Dyson, Blake & McConnell/Steward would be a much better mix of players IMO. Anyway can't wait for Saturday

We really hope that Tenance slips through to 6. :D

That pick #5 is an interesting one. If Melbourne take Tenance, then someone like Trotter could really jump up and be taken early.

True that. As could a Beau Waters or a Jacob Surjan.

If that happens Sheeds would take Dunn, Bradley or Clarke. I hope Bradley.

Agreed.

For someone that apparently talks to the clubs he mustnt of talked to Port at all well, not to mention even took a glancing look at Ports squad.

Alan Stewart said on radio we will take the best available tall player at 15. Burgan reckons we will go for a small...not only with our first pick, but with our 2nd pick too. Why we need two more young smalls is beyond me.

Not only that he reckons we will get Miller AND Sansbury....two forward pockets. Why we need etwo forward pockets when we have the Burgoynes, Pickett, Dew, Wanganeen that can and probably will play there in the next 2-7 years...where would these two players get a go in our side?

Pretty poor effort really. Seems like he has no clue at all about Port Adelaide.

Port will undoubtedly go for a tall with one of their first two picks, unless there is a good midfielder still available or a rush of tall early on then we'll probably use the first pick on a tall.

Watts, Morrison and Gayfer would probably be our preffered order for our first pick but I wouldn't be surprised to see us take a surprise midfielder at #15 like Matt Moody and then try and pinch a decent tall like Mundy, Stewart or Murphy with our second pick and then use our last two picks on a player like Schmidt and a recycled player.

Perhaps. I'd like Dunn. Thoroughly impressed me each time I saw him play.

Dont know too much about the under 18's competition but could someone tell me why Brent Hartigan took out the B&F in the best team in the under 18's comp but isn't listed in anyones phantom draft? too slow, small???

Not a bad question!! maybe he has just slipped through because of his height!! maybe some of the ppl who watch more TAC cup games could give us a bit of an insight!! he must be considered by someone!! surely

Has Goalden Hawk's thoughts on him. You'd think that with the proliferation of small forwards, a small defender who seems like he can shut people down would be ideal. Matera, Milne, Medhurst, Farmer even Brown all need to stopped each week.

Freo has Hayden, North Makepeace, Brissy the Scott Bros or Johnson, Essendon Mark Johnson, Melbourne Whelan, but most other clubs could probably do with a good small defender.

Probably the size is restricting him to a late pick or rookie list.

Given his Essendon ties, it's a fair chance we'll look putting him on the rookie list. He certainly deserves it. McLean's reputation went through the roof with his GF performance, but some of the other Calder boys who were consistent throughout the year - Bentick, Hartigan, Kent, Goullet - are deserving to make it onto an AFL list in some way.

personally i dont think kane tenace will slip to 6. either carlton will go against walker n take him, or he'll go at 3, 4 or 5 for sure!

I also have my doubts, but most people seem quite convinced that the top 4 will be Cooney, Walker, Sylvia, Ray. If that in fact occurs then it will only take Melbourne to pick someone else, and Tenance will slip to us. I hope! :D

Can anyone tell me what Ben Cosgriff has done to be given the flick.

In most phantom drafts he is top 35, but doesn't even rate a mention in this AFL phantom draft.

I saw him play in the Vic Country/Vic Metro game and he was terrific down back and later at FF. He has his faults but he has alot of positive points I would have thought. Strong mark, hard at it and pretty quick for a 186cm. Make a perfect HBF at AFL level.

Anyone know if he had a poor draft camp?

He was in the Bushrangers best just about every week and has the body size to step straight into AFL. I think that he got it right when he selected Dunn at 5. Local newspaper droped a hint that he was going to Melbourne
