News AFL Drugs Claims Bombshell

If the AFL were complicit in players avoiding SIA testing and thus being in breach of WADA code, there's a whole s**t ton of govt funding about to be flushed down the toilet. Not to mention the match fixing implications.

Super League anyone?

Can't decide if I'll support the Kilburn Knightriders or the Royston Park Royals

So how is this any different to breath testing yourself before driving home? And if you blow over you don’t drive?
Is it that the AFL is aware of drug use including drugs classed as PEDs but not reporting it?

I’m not condoning it, but they are testing for game day. If you don’t play on game day how have you broken the rules?
AFL are complicit in allowing there players to conduct an illegal activity.

No workplace should allow this.

The problem is that this is allegations from someone the AFL will paint as a "disgruntled former employee".

For it to go anywhere either the government or WADA would have to launch an independent investigation.

Will it happen? Most probably not, it will more than likely just get swept under the carpet.

It’s a bit fantastical. There’s employers that conduct these kinds of tests as standard pre-start routines. There’s no need to send the results to an outside party or have the AFL involved in the ‘conspiracy’. Just buy the tests by the box and test the players internally.

I may have missed this part, but how do the afl know about it?
Wasn’t it the Melbourne doctor doing the testing?
“The allegations include the prevalence of drug abuse and other prohibited behaviour across the AFL, off the books drug-testingof players at Dorevitch Pathology in Heidelberg, facilitated by the former chief medical officer of the AFL Peter Harcourt, the resting of players testing positive in these secret tests, ostensibly on account of injury, wilful inaction by AFL chairman Richard Goyder, and former CEO Gill McLachlan ….

“The documents in my possession also indicate a shocking unwillingness of senior AFL executives to address drug abuse by players and executives, particularly in relation to cocaine use.

“For instance here are very detailed notes of a telephone meeting between Gill McLachlan, Richard Goyder and Glen Bartlett.”

The above is the problem

Testing for drugs isn’t an illegal activity. The AFL aren’t complicit in the taking of drugs, so not sure how they’re dragged in.
Isn’t the allegation testing was done with help of AFL doctor?

And the league has a drugs policy they have trumpeted. You can’t have a drug policy and then do private testing to get around your own drug policy.

VFL will do its own 'investigation' and do alot of grandstanding with lots of huffing and puffing.

All to conclude "nothing to see here"... "baseless allegations"... "Nothing to substantiate".... :we have rigorous best practices in place"

Will then manufacture multiple feel good fluff pieces to take the heat off and the news cycle will move on.

That's if WADA turns a blind eye. Which now its in the federal parliament I doubt.

Not even a little bit surprised, my cousin who played AFL said the captain of his club was selling coke and if you didn't join him he'd make sure you weren't selected in the team and would say stuff like isn't a team player and doesn't gel well with the group and would dob you in for drinking alcohol instead on a night out with the footy lads.

“In other words, hundreds of thousands of Australians will watch the game not knowing that the game has been secretly manipulated by the AFL and thousands of Australians will bet on that game not knowing the game has been secretly manipulated by the AFL.”

Had to laugh at this paragraph.

Every supporter of a non-Victorian team team know the game is being manipulated by the AFL.

The only ones who wouldn't know the AFL are manipulating the game are Victorians with their heads shoved up their own arses.

Joke of a competition, death by 1000 cuts following this game.

Umpires, fixture, media bias, tribunal bias, expensive pricing, incompetent admin, too many teams/diluted talent pool.

Good luck to those still financially supporting this 'competition' as someone above said it's now at WWF stage.

So Brad's having knee surgery this week not because he needs it after the physios and Docs stuffed around with his treatment and rehab over summer?
No. Probably doesn't apply to his issues now.

But we all know he used Coke.

So now think back to all the times he might have played but didn't.

As the poster I quoted did with Buddy.

Right now you have to think any time a player is out with "general soreness" or " managed" could be this.

Alcohol use is very much frowned upon in clubland.

It affects performance.

To be honest, as a supporter I have no issue with players using these drugs recreationally. Prefer it over booze. I want the team I support to win games of Footy. If they need that stress release of being intoxicated probably better they use something that doesn't make them fat.

Look at Ben Cousins. Fittest man alive on the gear. Best player in the game.

Yeah it affected him mentally and he struggled. But I bet WCE supporters have no real issue with the Premiership (and Prelim against us) they won.

No different to enjoying the music/tv/movie shows performers create. Who cares If when they step off the stage they struggle with addictions. Most people don't.
