Rumour AFL intervention in Josh Schache contract

Wow, I'm not sure if the AFL were involved but it sure seems a bit of a turnaround from what the media were saying.
What the media know about football you can write on a postage stamp. Never ever believe the clowns in the media. You are a GURU you should know better

The media talks more crap than BF combined.

How anyone could think them being wrong means anything is stunning.

Too funny that this has it's own thread. Yes the AFL have intervened in the past. But they are pretty open about doing it & the reasons behind it. To pull off an intervention where the media, the public & even the Brisbane Lions don't know anything about it would be taking it to a new level.

This one is 100% on the low standard or media accuracy in reporting. Blame was on the radio saying that it was likely schache was gonna stay but "you weren't interested in that story"

Did Josh Schache want to come back to Melbourne? If yes... what has happened in between?

The AFL forced him to stay with us against his will.

His manager put out some feelers, realised that he wasn't that highly rated by other clubs, and went back to Brissie

Don't worry Carlton, Silvagni is probably on the phone to GWS's B-listers as speak, enticing them to the Blues

Ok lets take it seriously how would they do that? If he wanted to go both him and his manager would have a mouth watering case to sue and little motivation not to.
They could throw cash to solve that problem, but if the AFL has slush funds the game is in big trouble.
If they did use leverage and or cash far more likely they wouldn't keep it secret to me because I see little motivation compared to the risk.
So what lf Eddie bitches a bit about favours to the northern clubs, he will anyway.

A few clubs went fishing for him. Media heard about it and concocted stories because the Vic media are brainless twats who have to keep generating headlines to feed Victorians' insatiable thirst for news about their clubs.

Schache's preference was to stay but he was struggling a little with homesickness. The club have been very supportive of him.

He was more likely than not to stay in Brisbane and the offer was reasonable for his age and experience.

So...yep...must be a conspiracy! Watch out Victorian clubs, the AFL are plotting against you!

We didn't get a player the media said was over the line coming to us

Far more likely to be the players manager trying to get a big contract out of Brisbane by dangling him in front of the Victorian clubs.
That's it and in the end he stays. Clubs down here went lukewarm to almost cold. Better the devil you know, all the kid has to do is play well for the next two years and he has plenty of time to hawk himself around after he has proven his worth.

You've answered your own question. If you believe what Damien Barrett says you are an idiot the bloke knows nothing.

This was all driven by two things, an manager trying badly to drive up the value of Schache's contract (which failed) and the media he thought it was a lot more than it really was.

People need to ignore Barrett and Schache needs to find himself a new manager.
