Couldn't give a f.. about the clubs.

I m talking about humans and humanity!!!

Remember a human died not the club and one thought he was too focused on the club and made it a humanity story!!

We are all humans here Magic and I think you will find that you and Sunshine are in a significant MINORITY on this topic. Not a communist state at all as you suggest in one of your posts but a democracy

Interesting comments by many. Silence, funerals, leaving flowers and whatever else are an outpouring from and expressions from & for the "living". To me it's in the intent & as far as I can tell people are grieving. These expressions may serve the purpose of letting those closest to Phil know they are not alone. For me that's really important. As we know one of the worst feelings during grief is isolation.... To sing or not ? Either way is fine by me, but let's consider those who are suffering at this time....? And maybe once past the initial shock, we can then talk about celebrating a life devoted to footy?

Can we stop with the "Walsh would have wanted ........" stuff?

Reality is none of us personally knew him, and anyone saying he would want ABC is making guesses about what he would want based upon limited media info

Have your own opinion, but don't cloke it with the deceased to give it credibility

what we are talking about here is clubs and AFL HQ not acting like human beings.

They are not human beings.

They have not the responsibilities of human beings in their executive roles at these organisations usually corporate. Lets not kid ourselves.

The corporate body and executives behind it have different interests and obligations!

Most funerals celebrate ones life, not focus on the death!!!

Nah I'm fine man he just struck a nerve but thank you.

The AFL has chosen to honour phil in the way they did and that's all there is to it, whether you agree or not you should still have enough respect to just put your personal opinions aside and be a part of it, that's all that should matter.

And all that is correct, however it doesn't mean that the AFL made a WRONG decision in how they are respecting a tragic event. Of course there are a number of things the AFL would need to take into account such as their image etc.. but paying due respect to Walsh and his family would have been one of the main concerns. If you think their response was over the top, so be it. Perhaps however it's you who needs to forget the politics of the situation and also be respectful to the situation.

There are a number of other areas where the AFL can come in for criticism. I think you should focus on those to make your point and leave criticism of this issue for a much later date.

How is singing a song related to respecting someone's death?

Why don't you not use your mobile phones / ipads / laptops all weekend as a sign of respect because they distract you from your family? At least that's encouraging positive behaviour that's somewhat related to the tragedy.

Why is singing the song disrespectful of all things?

Simple question.

Because that is not something that is in the AFL's sphere of influence. That is a personal choice that we can make as individuals to connect with our families more strongly. The AFL have not said that supporters cannot sing the song at the ground, just that they will not be playing the song over the spekers. They have asked clubs to "consider"not singing their song in the rooms after the match.

This situation is so raw at the moment that the AFL feels that sining the songs in celebration is not an appropriate response while people need the time to grieve.

First comes grief and then the celebration of a persons life comes after that......

Perhaps as a mark of respect and with the alleged incident being heavily influenced by drug abuse , the afl could take a heavier stance . That includes penalising Essendon rather than consistantly trying to
Cover up incidents involving afl players and drug use .

Perhaps as a mark of respect we could not bring AFL controvercies in the equation that really have nothing to do with the topic at hand

Drug abuse allegedly well and truly has something to do with the topic at hand . My point it , yes honour and respect his passing but also learn .

Singing the song, at least to me, does not seem to be right after such a horrific event. Normally when someone dies, the atmosphere and tone is somber until after the funeral and it is at the wake where people come together, reflect and laugh about the happy times with the deceased.
In the case of Phil Walsh, this weekend is just too soon.

The reaction at the G was magnificent. Total silence. Great respect shown.
