Pendelbury could win the Brownlow or could push Swan the same way Kerr did to Cousins in 2005. He should be locked and loaded in this team.

B: Kelly Lake Rawlings
HB: Hodge Taylor Goddard

C: Dal Santo Swan (C) Enright
HF: Franklin Pavlich Green
F: Didak Riewoldt Le Cras
R: Sandilands Ablett Hayes
I: O'Brien Selwood Hall Chapman

Emerg. Harvey Pendlebury Montagna

These players should definitaly be in the team:

Swan
Hodge
Ablett
Sandilands
Goddard
Lake
Didak
Pendlebury
Chapman

You would think Jack Riewoldt would get the gig at full forward and well deserved IMO but Barry Hall should be in there as well. No reason why there cant be 3 talls in there including Franklin.

Certainties for me are as follows:

Hodge
Swan
Ablett
Sandilands
Goddard
Judd
J.Reiwolt
Didak
Chapman
Pendlebury
Lake

Beyond that, the 11 other positions will sort themselves out, and you could mount for and against argument for each of them - those those 11 guys above should be locked in.

Harry O'Brien being a poor kick is the worst myth I have heard recently. Unfortunately even some Collingwood supporters have said it, but I have been to every Collingwood game in Melbourne the last few seasons and have never worried about him.

Statistically he has less turnovers/critical errors per game than Nick Malceski (who is considered a good user).

O'Brien - Malceski
16 disposals - 21.5 disposals (-16.9%)
1 critical error - 1.5 critical error (-20%)
4.3 turnovers - 6.9 turnovers (-23.2%)

Stats have no relevance at all when it boils down to it. O'Brien is a much better defender than Malceski. I actually think Malceski is a very average defender. O'Brien shits all over him for defensive skills.

B: Frawlwy - Lake - Kelly
HB: O'Brian - Taylor - Goddard
C: Boyd - Ablett - Hayes
HF: Didak - Franklin - Chapman
F: LeCras - Riewolt - Hall
OB: Sandilands - Hodge - Swan
I: Cooney - Selwood - Pendlebury - Pavlich

Not much talk of Johnson. Problem is with a few midfielders battling for the half-forward roles this year, there is a lot of competition there and in turn in the forward pockets.

Ablett, Chapman and Didak all are very good chances of ending up on a flank. Swan ended up last year so who knows who else could get a gig forward of centre. Green and Lecras are probably battling Johnson for a spot in one of the pockets too.

I think I'd have him ahead of Lecras, but the selectors may feel like two consecutive good years earns Lecras a spot finally. Green played a lone hand as a medium marking forward so he deserves consideration too. Didak is almost a certainty for a flank.

Even though Johnson is ranked fourth in goal assists and fifth for goals in the competition after missing three games (which puts him first for goals contributed per game) it seems he is no certainty in 2010.

Strange thing about Johnson is that I think he was better 07-09 than he's been this year, despite almost every stat suggesting otherwise.

I think he'll still be in the side though.

That was the general consensus on the Geelong Board for most of the first half of the season as well. Since his three week break he has indeed been excellent, although his numbers stack up early on too.

I think Green and Johnson are ahead of LeCras in 2010. LeCras had another great year in a shite side but his overall contribution is not to the same level as Green and Johnson.

I would have Green on the flank and Johnson in the pocket. Very different type players and room for both. Green is one of the best marks for his size in the AFL and can play up the ground. Johnson more dangerous at ground level and has that touch of magic while Green is more of a solid fundamentals type player.

Green’s 424 disposals and 154 marks are hard to argue with for a spot on the flank, along with a solid 55 goals and 14 goal assists.

Johnson is clearly the best small forward in the comp, especially after Milne dropped off in the second half of the year. Hard to argue with his 80 contributed goals for the year. He also got 344 touches and 119 marks.

LeCras is around the same as Green and Johnson in goals, but much less disposals and marks and overall contribution.

FB: Frawley - Lake - Malceski
HB: Goddard - Taylor - Enright
C: Swan - Hayes - Montagna
HF: Ablett - Franklin - Chapman
FF: Didak - Reiwoldt - LeCras
Rucks: Sandilands - Selwood - Hodge
Interchange: Jamar - Pavlich - Boyd - Pendlebury

I like this team.

Ill give it another go:

FB: Frawley - Lake - O'Brian
HB: Goddard - Taylor - Malceski
C: Didak - Hodge - Pendlebury
HF: Green - Franklin - Chapman
FF: Hall - Reiwoldt - LeCras
Rucks: Sandilands - Ablett - Swan
Interchange: Jamar - Boyd - Hayes - Selwood

i don't like the midfielder in the HFF, i think we should reward the forward positions to the players who kick the most goals.

Someone was floating stats around before showing that Steve Johnson has been poor away from Skilled Stadium this year which sort of feels about right. Don't think he gets a spot

I'd say it was just his first half of the year in general rather than a specific stadium. As SJ (the poster) said a few posts above, SJ (the player) was good after his break and really showed his class away from Geelong. Dominated the Swans up at ANZ.

Ill give it another go:

Ablett kicked 44 goals & Didak 35. I don't think it's too big a stretch to put them forward especially considering both would be very high in goal assists as well.

Franklin, by far.

And Green should be in the side, at least on the bench.

No doubt.

If you are a defender, who would you be more concerned about playing on?

Every defender in the AFL would choose to play on Hall rather than Franklin, and that makes it pretty obvious who the better player is.

??? Lake ???

Goddard Taylor Hodge

Montagna Swan Selwood

Ablett Franklin Chapman

Didak Riewoldt Green

R: Sandi Judd Pendlebury

Int: Hall Hayes SJ/Enright Le Cras

Team primarily composed of top 4 side players as these sides were considerably better than the remaining 14. Riewoldt and Green had outstanding years and Le Cras should be rewarded for this and his previous year as the selectors have been inclined to do.

Pav didn't have an AA year, went missing in many second halfs particuarly in the last 11 games. SJ and Enright both had solid consistent years and I think will toss a coin for the last spot. No back pockets stand out to me so I'm not sure on their selection.

i think franklin will miss cos he missed too many games.
whether ablett gets named as a half-forward flanker or ruck-rover is a toss of the coin.
i think green might get a place on the bench but i've left him out of my side.
lenny hayes and stevie j won't make aa this year...
enright had an average year but not sure if he deserves an aa. i've left him out of my side.
matthew boyd will make aa this year i reckon.

My Team based on the squad:

B: Harry O'Brien, Brian Lake, James Frawley

HB: Brendon Goddard, Harry Taylor, Corey Enright

C: Lenny Hayes, Dane Swan, Matthew Boyd

HF: Gary Ablett, Lance Franklin, Paul Chapman

F: Alan Didak, Jack Riewoldt, Barry Hall

R: Aaron Sandilands, Luke Hodge, Leigh Montagna

INT: Joel Selwood, Scott Pendlebury, Mark LeCras, Shane Mumford.

Got pretty close here, only Hayes for Judd, Jamar for Mumford & Johnson for Boyd!

Happy with that!!
