Heh. Breust is a lock. Named amongst the best against Freo. Kicked 3 against the Dees, so don't know where that came from (and named amongst the best). Kicked 3 against the Swans. 3 against the Crows.

So, in summary. Rd23 - quiet. Rd22 - quiet. Rd21 - amongst our best. Rd 20 - 3 goals. Rd 19 - quiet. Rd18 - 3 goals. Rd17 - 3 goals.

Yes he's had a quieter end of the season than earlier on (as people started paying more attention to him), but even in his quieter spell, he kicks 14 or so goals in five rounds. I don't know of another small forward that had a better Rd17-23 - and that was his worse period.

Just on Nath Jones, it's going to look idiotic if he finishes top 10 in the Brownlow (which, given his first half, is pretty possible) and didn't make the 40.

For the record, I think he's had a better year than Libba, Selwood, Priddis and Ellis.

That was only when Mitchell was missing. Majority of the time he was across HB and the reason for less R50 is that the Hawks don't concede that many I50s in the first place.

Even when Mitchell was playing he still rotates through there, I agree though he does spend the majority of his time across HB.

Hanley (no d) is possibly the second best Brisbane player this year and has done very well in the midfield. He could be regarded as a bit unlucky

The 40 man squad is pretty useless, the only thing that really matters in the end is the final 22.

Have no problems with any player omissions because you can rattle off 30-35 players in the squad of 40 that has been better this year.

No. Just use common sense. Ablett is still a chance. Mitchell isn't. It should be factored in with Rance to make sure he's been clearly better than the other key defenders if he's getting a spot.

Nope. Ablett was the best by a country mile in his 15 games and could even win the Brownlow missing that many. That's how dominant he was. It's fine the way it is at the moment.

Mitchell hasn't even played half the year. Cotchin plays a different role to Ellis and I think Ellis was better anyway and more valuable to his side. You cannot ignore Rockliff's incredible numbers for the majority of the year for a side that was getting belted week in week out. I can agree with Barlow and Libba but I don't consider Barlow unlucky in that regard. Brodie Smith is a very good chance for a HBF spot and far better than Enright this year, not sure what games you have been watching.

Ok champ. Burgoyne plays all over the ground, including large portions in the middle, Smith played all year down back and leads the comp for metres gained, was regularly tagged and is one of the most damaging players in the comp. Watch a few games before commenting in the future!

Watched plenty of games and I'm picking at AA defender I'm picking one that actually defends rather than one who get the ball fed to him on the outside so that he can lead the league in metres gained. That is why I picked Burgoyne over him, he actually defends unlike Smith. Malceski who is just as damaging as Smith with the ball managed to lay nearly double the tackles Smith did while leading the league in kicks.

See that's the thing to be a gun defender you not only have to be able to get the ball and be damaging you need to be able to defend when you don't get the ball and considering Smith had 7 games where he didn't lay a tackle he doesn't fit my criteria for an AA calibre defender. That doesn't mean he hasn't had a good year, hell I'd love him playing at Richmond, but an AA he isn't, not IMO anyway.

I'd love to see teams nominate players for an initial squad. Would be funny to see how many are nominated by the better club and whether lower clubs are still game to put up 1 or 2 nominations.

Nath Jones was never going to make the 22 but wow it's frustrating when players from 17 clubs get nominated and you get overlooked. You don't think they could've snuck him in somewhere?

I agree that over their career you're right about all those players being better.

But this is based on 2014 and I think they got it pretty spot on. Hanley unlucky, came home super strong, but if he's to be considered a mid he's probably not quite at the level of the others.

libba might be stiff he has the highest number of tackles and clearances and plays for a lowly side. Imagine if he played for hawthorn,sydney,freo the media would not having stopped talking about him
