Can't believe Goldstein isn't in every team posted. Baffling

This, McGovern has been outstanding and surely deserves the CHB spot.
Betts deserves a go as the best small forward in he competition this year, and I'm one of the people that would have Goldy in as first ruck.

Will Gaff make it? He's been good but normally you need two years' worth of form for the AA selectors to take notice.

Agree who is he competing with not better than Parker, Hodge & Beams to name a few.

Sandilands has been a monster. It's not clear-cut like Fyfe over every other midfielder or Kennedy over every other Key Forward.

And Naitanui has been pretty good recently. What (rightly or wrongly) may not help Goldy, is that Sandilands/Nic Nat are playing for top 4 sides and North look destined for a mid table finish..

I think you're reading that wrong. The centre square hit-outs to advantage percentage is ranked by team, not individual.

More talking about the 34+ clearance differential when Nic Nat is in the ruck, only second in the league behind Fyfe.

So given NN is spending less time in the centre square than the other rucks... do you think that increases or decreseas his effectivenes.

I'd be pretty confident that Sinclair and McInnes are dragging down the team average as opposed to increasing it.

As always with rucks - the advanced stats tell a far greater story - something unfortunately Joe Public doesn't get access to.

I think an argument can be made either way. Lycett and Sinclair are probably among the better relief rucks atm. They will generally ruck against other teams relief rucks, so it possible they're winning a good percentage of hitouts to advantage.

I think this comparison shows the flaw in the argument that less time in the ruck means more effectiveness of the number 1 ruck.
Naitanui attends 71% of centre bounces
In 38% of centre bounces WC will get a hitout to advantage.
For simplicity let's say Sinclair attends the other 29%. He has averages pretty handy 20 hitouts a game so he might reduce to HTA% a little

Bellchambers attends 60% of centre bounces
In 33% of centre bounces Essendon will get a hitout to advantage.
For simplicity let's say Carlisle attends the other 40%. He has averages 3 hitouts a game he's probably going to reduce the HTA% a lot.

Although saying all that I think NN is probably the best centre square ruckman in the game, because it allows him to use his leap far more than around the ground rucking. But I can't see NN being in the AA team atm.

I reckon Goldstein matches Sandilands for ruck effectiveness, whilst providing much more around the ground than Sandi does. Clear number 1 ruck. Will be a travesty if Goldstein doesn't make the bench at least

Perhaps Saturday night's game would be a battle for the third best ruck in the comp (so far this season)?

If nic plays the way he has for the last 5-6 weeks for the rest of the season with Healy on the panel i'd say Nic is an absolute monty.

I can't either based on the numbers we get to look at.

From a subjective POV you can only judge on the games you have seen and for me that is Sandi in front

However Goldy's stats are formiddable now and stuck up very well.

However the advanced rucking stats such as % HO won, % HO to Adv, Scores from HO as well as the differentials on those stats will tell a far greater story.

Gut feel says Sandi is winning

Nic Nat has been the equal of any ruck over the last 4 or 5 weeks. But he started slowly so will really need to maintain his form and goldy/Sandi fall off a bit.

Having said that end of season form always seems to count for double in selectors minds given they have they seem to have the memory of a goldfish.

That's just effectiveness, Naitanui has a quality ruckman to support him. Jacobs, Goldstein and Sandilands for the most part ruck the centre square by themselves.

Sinclair isn't quality but he is competent. He would be no better than other teams support its just we use him more than other teams use their second rucks.
