For an award that's decided over a season? One he's almost universally considered a lock for? No reason not to highlight the fact that he's put in another solid performance. 15 disposals in the second half when we were in big trouble probably elevates his game from solid to very good too.

Can't imagine there is another level above what Naitanui performed at tonight.
If Goldstein continues to hold the 1st ruck spot then it is well deserved.

Naitanui produces a significantly higher taps to advantage percentage does he? No. He produces 2% more, while averaging less disposals, marks, tackles and significantly less hitouts, not to mention having a disposal efficiency of 63% compared to Goldsteins' 73% and the fact that Goldstein actually holds the all-time record for both hitouts and hitouts to advantage in a game.

Nice try on dusting off that "Naitanui is sooooo much more efficient in the ruck" chestnut though.

Do you have the stats for pressure acts after the hitout ? It shits me that those stats aren't readily available. Naitanui is one of the best ruckman I have ever seen in this aspect of the play. Most ruckman just stand there, hunched over while the midfielders contest the hard balls. Nicnat gets down and dirty. I love that about him.

Last Monday night on Fox Footy, they showed a great clip which illustrated Naitanui's fierce tacking and contested work from the game vs Melbourne. Naitanui won the hit out from a centre bounce & knocked the ball forwards. A Melbourne player gathered the ball, but was pole-axed by Naitanui. Another Melbourne player grabbed the ball. Naitanui went after him and stripped the ball. It was like a rugby scrum. Melbourne kept pushing it forwards towards their goals and nearly grabbing possession, but they were thwarted time and time again by Nicnat. He did about 6 pressure acts in a row, culminating with a heavy bump on some poor Demon forward.

It was unbelievable. You just don't see that shit from ruckmen.

Sandilands has been the most consistent ruckmen. Goldstein has played really well but it is hard to ignore Nic Nat because his actual ruckwork and pressure is a level above those 2. If Freo finish top and Sandilands keeps his form he should be all australian however i think the media push for Goldstein and Nic Nat will be hard to ignore for selectors. I hope they look at the one on one contest between ruckmen each week. on that score Sandilands is leading

I am in no way advocating for him, but Mark LeCras has a similar ratio.
26 goals and 18.7 disposals a game.

Is there a stat for that? Wouldn't matter anyway, Champion Data keeps all their insightful stats away from the common man.

Regardless, what you're talking about is why I love Goldstein. He follows up on his ruckwork, making him more than just a beanpole. He becomes an extra midfielder. There's a reason the coaches have voted him as the 8th best player in the competition, and it's the same reason most Brownlow trackers have put him in the top 10 payers in the competition. It's that he's the ideal ruck. He kills opposition in the air and then dominates them around the ground.

Definitely bias but who cares. Every team in my opinion has to have 2 of Boyd, Murphy or Wood. All have been outstanding. Wood as a definite and Murphy in as well.
