Agree the hawks outfit were all class. I am hoping Richmond start to tail away towards the end of 2020 due to the intensity required to hold up their game plan. If they're given a tougher premiership fixture it could wear them down a bit. Kudos to them for riding the injuries out and getting some good form at the end of the year.

Looking forward to a cracking season ahead
I do rate the Tigers but they play that style which must be so taxing on their players. Basically a rugby style with in and under quick (but kinda sloppy) ball movement. If they get a dream run at home next season then they will be up there again.

lol with what?
I don't know some future 3rd and packaging 4th rounders. GWS will get 2nd round for Patton, Saints want Jones there's gonna be surplus second rounders. It's day 3 we got till October 16 for players and November 22 for pick swaps. Plenty of potential late 2nd rounders up for grabs.

Yes indeed. Can’t wait for the season proper and we should get to play you at Optus this year.
Its high time we got a h and a this coming season

We are two clubs that are both doing well and id like to see one on each others dungpile

Might be a good draft still, Malcolm Rosas Jnr might be still available at our first pick.

He's off the table. Gold Coast can pick him up for nothing under the revised Darwin academy allocation they now have.

The Suns are set to immediately benefit from the revised Academy rules, with Queenslanders Connor Budarick and Hewago 'Ace' Oea and Darwin's Malcolm Rosas and Ben Jungfer all considered draftable.

Barrass (43), Cole (36), Rioli (52), McGovern (44 rookie draft), Schofield (50), Vardy (42)

23% of our 2018 premiership winning team were taken with picks higher than the pick 33 was just handed Geelong.

Cole is a reasonable example considering he was taken fairly close to that pick. People often come up with games played for draftees higher than a certain point to make a case that they are next to worthless. Ie what everyone is doing with our picks in the Kelly deal.

Cole has played 41 games. Say we never see Cole ever again at AFL level. It looks bad that he only played 41 games, but he played a key role in our premiership winning season. You'd take that for a pick 36 every day of the week, would you not?

No but you can deal in risk.

In this trade we seem to have ignored our downside risk. Tim kelly is at his peak, his risk is all downside, especially on a 6 year deal.

Trading away our future first exposes us to further downside risk, as we are expected to finish right at the top meaning it has been valued at (17-18) when theoretically it could be pick 1, and more conceivably pick 12-16. There’s no upside there even if we finish first.

Trading the other draft picks has exposed us to both upside and downside risk, depending how Geelong draft/who we would have drafted.

In 12 years time we could still be feeling the effects of this trade with up to 4 players who could have been in our squad not there.

We just have to win a premiership in the next 2-3 years for this to be acceptable otherwise we’ve crippled our long term future for no reason.

We got draft picks back though? So we aren't going to be 3 players short

would you have traded 14, 24, 33 and a future first for Lynch if you had to? Knowing that he just won you a premiership
Not my decision, but to be honest, no. You can’t rob Peter to pay Paul. Will say I am glad we were not in the position your mob found yourselves in. Either way you are damned if you do and damned if you don’t.
BTW, Tom Lunch never won us a premiership either. Tigers won as a tight unit. Contributed for sure but no match winner on the day.

From next year can we not just forever more trade our following years first round pick for a teams current first round pick?

2020 we trade our 2021 first rounder for a teams 2020 first rounder
2021 we trade our 2022 first rounder for a teams 2021 first rounder
2022 we trade our 2023 first rounder for a teams 2022 first rounder

And so on and so on. Never miss out on a first rounder

Your post would make sense if the club wanted another Jeremy McGovern. But we don't. We want ready made elite midfielders but they either re-signed (Coniglio), tied to purple (Fyfe) or there is a lulz chance of them ever coming here (Dangerfield, Martin etc).

Draft picks are overrated. If you want to win a flag now holding firm and letting Kelly walk to the Dockers because they were happy to stump up is far, far worse than this trade.

I absolutely agree that draft picks are overrated however anyway it's cut I don't see how this is a pass unless we win a premiership.

We put everything we had on the table and then some for a guy with 1 year of top tier form who is at his best our third bed midfielder when we held all the cards.

I'm not unhappy with the result but **** me we just paid the heaviest trade price for a player since the judd trade. 2 years in the afl system and 1 year where he's the 5th to 10th best mid and he's 26.

FMD we overpaid.

Not on the day, but it's up to speculation as to if you would have got there without him

ecstatic to have TK at the club.
We paid a lot, but im sure we will be ok.

expecting the following:

Muts and Mallen to be shown the door.
take 52 and 64 in the draft.
Upgrade Watson.
Take two more in the RD.

Assuming we dont get any trade requests out, which I think is unlikely.

Mark McGough (43), Jarrad Wright (35), Andrew Browne (53), Nick Stone (44 rookie draft), Josh Houlihan (49), Kieran McGuiness (42)

This is the 2001 super draft, by the way.

See, I can be selective with late draft picks to push an agenda. Draft is always a lottery, even moreso with later picks.

Of course the trade won't pass muster if we don't win a flag with Tim Kelly in the side.

That doesn't mean you don't do it. If the trade didn't happen because we didn't want to let go of pick 33 I would be apoplectic.
