Swan Districts beat Claremont in the 1982,1983,1990 and 2010 grand finals.
On the occasion when Swans won the WAFL League grand final in 1990 and 2010, we won the premiership after a drawn final and a replayed final. After these wins the replay for Finals (post-1990) and Grand Final (post-2010) were abolished for extra time.

Surely what you’re about to read has already been mentioned in the near 2k posts in this thread?

Here goes …

Leigh Matthews had a very quirky run against Essendon in GFs.

In different roles and with multiple clubs he only competed against the Bombers when he was involved in the last game of the year from 1983-2001. As a Hawthorn player in 1983, 1984 and 1985, then as the Collingwood coach in 1990 and then again as the Brisbane coach in 2001 every GF he made it to in this period was against Essendon. WTF.

FWIW he had a 33.3% winning GF record against Essendon as a player but 100% as a coach and a 60% overall success rate.

Essendon actually kicked six goals against Geelong in the first round of 1897. I have not checked who kicked the first, but although there were six goalless scores in 1897 — as many as in the last 121 seasons combined — all eight teams in the first VFL round kicked at least two goals.
1902 Edward VII is coronated a year after the death of Queen Victoria Collingwood wins flag

1953 Elizabeth II is Coronated a year after the death of George VI, Collingwood wins flag

2023 Charles III is Coronated a year after the death of Elizabeth II, Collingwood wins flag

EDIT: Collingwood has lost grand finals in years George V (1911) and George VI (1937) were coronated. Charles III could've been George VII before opting for his maiden name.
1936 George V died and Edward VIII was crowned, although he abdicated a mere 326 days afterwards. Collingwood won the premiership in 1936. The Magpies won in 1910 too!

Brisbane just beat Gold Coast in the preseason match today 15.12 (102) to 8.7 (55)
The Lions also beat Gold Coast by the exact same score in the 2021 preseason (the first "unofficial" match).
I ******* remember that game too. I think The Bulldogs beat Melbourne as well I know they played each other earlier on that day.

* time flies.

Round 1 2023. Collingwood lost to Sydney by 1 point in the prelim interstate, defeated reigning premiers Geelong at home in Round 1 the following season and went on to win the flag.

Opening Round, 2024. GWS lost to Collingwood by 1 point in the prelim, interstate, defeated reigning the premiers easily at home in the opening game of the season.

Essendon honoured the 40 year anniversary of the 1984 Grand Final today and the margin was identical (24 points) and the final scores for both teams almost identical to that day (107-83 today compared to 105-81 forty years ago)
