Aircondioners aren't a necessity though, you have to wash clothes, thought that would be ovbvious to the most simple people.

Why don't they ask people who don't really need airconditioning, to not use it at peak times, they can have a cold shower instead.

Maybe if you got an airconditioner you wouldn't need to wash your sweaty, stinky clothes so often.

But see, I'd say that air conditioning is one of those things that if you're gonna use it, you're gonna use it when everyone else is to. It seems silly to be using it in the morning, or on cold days, and then turning it off when you get home in the evening. As for washing clothes, you can do that at any time of the day. Or you could hand wash them. Washing machines are technically a luxury as well.

Not everybody can deal with the heat, obviously like you can.

In the hot weather, its not fun being all hot and sweaty without an airconditioner on.. Some people obviously want to keep nice and cool, & it's not like they aren't entitled to seeing as they pay their power bill.

What about your dog though, surely you'd have an airconditioer for him???...

In WA at the moment, they are asking people to do their washing early in the morning, rather than when they get home from work, reason, beacause pussies use their air conditioners at night, so they don't want to overload the power supply.

Right. I am going to get up early to do my washing, so pussies can use their air conditoners.

Excellent suggestion. Please take note Mantis.

It is ridiculous that we are in a position that energy suppliers are making these recommendations, but what do you do? Spreading the load, even if inconvenient, is better than not having power available when required.

Doesnt it feel good to be one of the strong mantis(why do I always want to say mantits??)..yeh heat bring it on.

Ok I will allow your point as its each to their own..my concern would be why CANT we be guaranteed power?

I have been here 4 years and every summer its been the same. I sit back and wonder what year we are in ....there are a whole raft of issues I can see...the government selling off land as fast as they can and then screaming when all those NEW houses suck up MORE electricity.... the power corp struggling to meet demand... ask yourself how many double adapters( electrical people above the navel thankyou) and powerboards people have?

I am guilty as are many as in this house we have assorted tvs playstations dvds fridges fish tanks clocks phones kettles stereos all hooked up and connected.. as I am sure many more from here have.

But bottom line mantis i agree why should you have to get up early? Do it at night and screw the government..everyone in wa start washing turning on every power point and overload the system and by february we wont have Good News Geoff but Colin Blandett as our premier

Dear mantis,

With my inpending trip to Perth early in '05, you are hereby officially given permission to;

1. Use your A/C to curtail any premature sweating,
2. Wash your clothes, regularly & often, and
3. Leave the fridge plugged in (& keep it stocked BTW)

Thank you, that is all.

They could ask the people who switch on their aircons the minute they get home from work, to not use them, washing clothes IMO is more important than being a couple of degrees cooler.

I'm not talking about hospitals etc, they run them all day when it's hot, just the people who only use them after work.
After recently having 2 power draining air coolers installed ( because I can) I asked the electrician how to best operate it to maximise my pleasure and coolness.. I am already carlito cool but you know...... he actually said the best way to do it for power and personal comfort was on a 36c day to leave it on if we are going out but jack it up to 28-29c and when we come home it wont take as long to cool down to 22c and TAKE LESS power to do so.

Funny an electrician saying that.

As I said, we should not be in this situation, but we are, so what do you do. Yeah, just overload the system so no one benefits.

The infrastructure for both power and water is being upgraded to accomodate for our population, and hopefully our governments can start to show a little more foresight than in the past. Afterall, it is hardly the current government that is responsible for the current situation, but if they do not plan ahead, they will be responsible future problems.

As long as reasonable steps are being taken to ensure long term viability, then all we can do at present is grin and bear it. We are all part of the same community facing the same problems, so it is necessary to work together to make the most of what resources we do have.

Except Mantis of course. She is a bit more important.

Hey, I'm not the one who just went out & bought TWO airconditioners, when they know there's a power shortage. ;)

It means if you are so concerned about how much water mantis uses, cut down yourself to ease the load. How hard is that to understand?

Are you aware of what my water consumption is?

Ummm, I think we all missed the point of this thread....

When I get to Perth will my beer still be cold?

Thank you.

Even if we have to cut back on every other power use, I promise the beers will be cold.
