It all depends whether we want to use a tagger this year or not. I think Greenwood is one of the premier taggers in the competition, we are just usually loathe to set tags week in week out.

I think we play better with a tagger. We have such a strong midfield, so if you can shut down the oppositions best player then it allows our midfield to take control
Bingo!

Greenwood IMO is our prefered tagger because mids can't go forward on him, he's a capable contested mark with a strong body, easily best 22 IMO.

But if he fails to shutdown his man we're effectively 1 down in the midfield because he ain't that great

I’m not entirely sure how people still think we can carry Greenwood either? He is seven shades of shit ball in hand so you’re picking a guy just to stop someone else and at the same time playing a 17 man structure. That’s acceptable if the “tagger” can contribute offensively at times, but Greenwood can’t in that role. Just like last year people will froth at his work on the track, but when it comes to getting a contructive kick he’s as ineffective as Blair!

Well his spot in the team is dependent on his ability to shut down an opponent, so if he isn't performing that role then he is out.

I only see a spot for him in the side if he is there as a dedicated tagger. I don't want to see him used as a half forward anymore. Surely we can find better options.

I personally rate his abilities as a tagger. He is one of the fittest guys on our list and he sticks to his task. Plus he is a bull at the contest. He also wins plenty of the football going the other way.

If we don't have a role for a tagger in our structure or alternatively if he isn't performing his role, then it could be a long year for him. He gives himself every chance though as he is one of the hardest trainers at the club.

Think he'll struggle for senior games in 2018 so not too sure how easily he slots in to our best 22.

Boo to the Greenwood hate.
I like him.

Nothing to do with hate. I think he's been a useful acquisition and had a few ripper games. Just think he's fallen down the pecking order and will struggle for senior opportunities.

Every great team have hard nuts like Greenwood

I rate him highly

I think Maynard will take his spot and offer a lot more offensively. Hopefully his tank has developed enough to take on the role.

Would also see Greenwood as being behind Wills.

Can't play them all.

If we want a shut down forward who can keep the ball trapped in, take a grab and kick well for goal, there's definitely a spot for Greenwood. I also think he's been valuable in cameo roles, a la Selwood who he beats up every time. This year with Ablett I think this might be pointless, but could see him doing a job on an Adelaide mid like Sloane for instance.

Might be better options, but will all depend on offensive-defensive balance. Need not to leak from the forward line so that's an asset Greenwood has going for him.

I was one of those people who appreciated his work ethic on the track last year. And yep, I remain a believer in the virtues of training hard, but the fact is that Greenwood didn't get enough of or do enough with the football this season. At this stage it feels like our best 22 would have be going rather badly for Greenwood to be in it.

I like his spirit, but sometimes it just isn't enough.

Yeah as a small fwd who plays a negating role but can also take a mark and snag a sausage he goes alright, much better then Blair at it imo.

I said this 12 months ago, and they did actually play Greenwood in a forward defensive role early this year for a stretch of games. Unfortunately his set shot kicking turned to poop and he was pretty average all round in the role. Was very disappointing.

He had some good games in that role I thought, needs to make the most of his shots on goal but is another short ass who is strong above his head.

Wouldn't say he's a lock all year but he's got enough credit to start there and probably one of the few who when put down on paper has genuine defensive capacities. I didn't want him in the midfield when he started because he was cramping Crisp's style, which was pretty good.

Don't see a mid role for him outside particular jobs on teams with few high quality and damaging mids, like Adelaide.

Greenwood plays a physical game, by saying this he loves to scrap and fight for every possession, nothing comes easy and that puts him in the frame for seniors every week providing he's fit. With the group being so inexperienced, he is a valuable asset to have as a forward as he can play a negating role on the best running back and contribute to the side in both ways as a solid user of the ball. He would get in ahead of Daicos and Kirby with the amount of running he does to clear a path, create a goal-scoring option, etc.

How about the Greenwood talk gets moved to a greenwood thread? When I come on here and see this thread lit up i am hoping to see a training report from Mazz but instead i see some silly Greenwood debate.

Let's see, there was about 2 1/2 hours between the last Greenwood comment and yours. And five intervening posts about the time trials.

Wouldn’t it have been easier to just report the posts rather than post this precious comment which has only further derailed the thread?
