He showed in 37% game time against the Swans just how influential he can be. 11 disposals at better than 90%DE, 3 goals and a couple of tackles. You can't overlook that sort of class if he's fit and available purely because you're scared of the what-if's.

How far away is he from playing VFL though? Would guess he needs at least 3 VFL games to get back up to match fitness. From memory he had about half of dozen this year before he came back. It would be a late run.

Would need to get back before finals or for the VFL team to go deep into finals to be any chance I'd have thought. But if fit and available, I wouldn't hesitate to include him.

Now THAT is the best news if true... could be a difference maker in finals.

If Wells' body can hold up for just 3 games. 3 Finals and he can put in performances like he did against Sydney, he could most certainly be the difference.

Pick up the Normie in his last ever game for the Pies. Now that would be something! One for the 'only at Collingwood' category, and we'd all be showering Gubby Allen with love.

But sadly, I cant see it happening.

Probably not, no.

To be fair to Wells, what he copped was a bit of a freak accident. He didn't have a soft tissue breakdown, which is encouraging. I think he's a shot.

Very important use of the word 'a'.

Well, a shot. Not like I said certainty.

In the end, his career as a footballer is over at the end of this year. This is literally his last chance to win a flag as a footballer so in hindsight, coming to Collingwood was a wise choice.

My assumption is he will do everything humanly possible to get back and most likely pull a Brisbane players from 2001-2004 and inject himself with so much pain killing medicine that he won't be able to feel his body just so he can nab a flag.

He's been around since Buckley won the Brownlow, that's a bloody long time ago. It's a wonder he is still going around.

Obviously he is having one last crack at it and good on him, I hope he makes it.

You are a long time retired.

Remove the a from your post and you will see what he meant by interesting use of a.

A is all that separates wells from being a shot and being shot.

His last two injuries have been freak accidents. Looking at his last game it’s ridiculous to think of what we’ve been missing out on for the past couple of years.

Interesting as Reid has shown he can get through more games before breakdown then Wells has.

For mine Wells would need to be back and playing VFL a few weeks before finals or it is a big risk.
Agree that Wells needs to play some footy before finals. The reason why I'd play Wells is because I think he is a big upgrade on our small fotwards. I view Reid as a very minor, if any, uphrade on our tall forwards.

Training Update: Thursday Aug 15, 2019
Weather:

Sunny, cold and breezy. 11 on arrival at 10am.
Not spotted:
Isaac Quaynor - you'd think he's done for the year. Can't see the club risking too many underdone players come finals.
Player Watch:
Darcy Moore
– did full training and looked to be in terrific nick. Reckon he is right to play. I wouldn't take him to Adelaide, but he does look right to play. Took a lovely pack mark over Roughead in the match sim.
Jordan DeGoey – Ran laps and didn't take part in any drills or the match play. Suspect all of the reports about him not playing until finals are probably correct. Did not do anything at full pace. My guess is everything today was at about 50%.
Brayden Sier – Did full session. Looks right to go unless Walshy's tongue lashing has added to his woes. Walshy looked his usual angry self.
James Aish - Looked pretty good today. Did the training with DeGoey and Reid.
Daniel Wells – Did full training and even participated in the match sim. Looks like he's been in the good paddock though. I can't see him playing to be perfectly honest. Would we risk him in week 1 of finals with Moore, DeGoey, Aish and Stevo?
Jaidyn Stephenson – outstanding today. Tried a few torps from the centre square. One bounced in the square and hit the post. One bounced through. He's jumping out of his skin.
Ben Reid – did the same training as DeGoey and Aish. I reckon he could play finals if needed, but we would have to be going really badly to risk him.
Other Observations:
•Lynden Dunn was on the track doing some walking and then went inside. I'd like him and Langdon to be out there, but Bucks's Curse had returned with a vengeance.
•Roughead and Walsh were both doing ruck drills when I left at about 11:30.
•Noble trained well. This boy has a seriously good boot on him for his size. Must be in contention this week.
•Does Treloar have a niggle? Left the main group to speak with a trainer and then did some private work. Returned to training.
•Brody Mihocek had a long chat with Sier during the warm up. I would like to have heard that conversation. It seemed to be pretty much a one way conversation.

Happy to answer any questions.

Great report. Presume(hope) Elliott, Sidebottom and Maynard each trained through the whole session?

Is Walshy a chance of a call up?
