But is there any update on Nathan Murphy SV?
Yes he’s trading the house down, and he’s now seven inches above the house.
His growth spurt is coming along nicely.

The boys trained the house down.

Incomplete training report.

The boys trained the house down, whilst the rest of the group didn't participate in full training and just ran laps

I could only stay this morning til around 11, so they were still going when I left; but this is what I observed.

When I first arrived it was about 9:15. I was on the AAMI Park end, and saw a few players were already doing drills. It turns out it was the rehab group. Doing handball drills, and then marking drills. These players included; Reid, Shaz, Broomy, Crisp, Dunn, Jordy and Will Kelly.
I'll post some pictures and upload some video sometime tomorrow, since I have to go to work tonight.

Then I went over to the glasshouse end, where the rest of the boys were coming out and starting to warm up. Everyone joined in on this. Then they separated between the main group and the rehab group.
Brodie Grundy didn't train. I assume that means he will come back on Monday. A few of them just did running drills. Wells was amongst one of them, the others was those I had mentioned in the rehab group.

Followed that; it was match sim commencement. There was two umpires that arrived, and that was when I knew there would be an intense session coming up. And there was.
It was Blacks against Whites. I can' say who won or scored the most goals, since I was unable to see the scoreboard from where I was standing.
Cox, Lynch and Roughy took turns to ruck. Roughy was also up froward I believe and down back.
The irish boys impressed. A couple of us laughed then they were in a marking contest against one another and Tohil said to Mark "get the **** off me" definitely getting into the game.

Moore was again impressive with his marking capabilities and defensive structures.
Pretty much everyone was wearing their numbers on their backs. Including Beams and Roughy. First time I have seen them wear it.

While Beams had been on running drills the last few sessions. Probably since before christmas, but today he participated in both match sims. Even some of the coaches were impressed with him and the way he goes about the ball, who were standing upstairs above me. There was a moment Beams had the ball and weaved through players to kick to another player. I was very impressed. Excited.

Treloar also completed the match sims. Then he and Beams did some running after both sims were finished. probably pacing themselves a little bit at a time.

There was moments that Bucks was yelling instructions from upstairs to the players. But it seemed a very productive session.

Thanks Jen. A couple of questions:

First, how did Lynch look in the ruck?

Second, did any players in the rehab group participate in match sim?

Third, besides Grundy was there anyone unsighted?

How did Elliott train? Did he participate in the match sim?

Training notes 1 Feb

Good conditions for training and for spectators, although the presence of wind made it tricker to get skills right.

I was a little late to arrive, so may have missed some things at the start. Apologies. Would welcome others thoughts.

Missing in Action on field but present on the sidelines running laps, doing agility work etc
De Goey & Goldsack - light running as individuals
Crisp, Kelly & Reid - laps with some intensity together
Wells & Broomy - bit of running
Scharenberg & Dunn - agility work with some ball handling. Knees held up well to constant change of direction.
Grundy, Howe (missing completely)

Feature - Full match simulation with AFL umpires in attendance
Blacks vs Whites

Blacks team rotating between
Def - Quaynor, Keane, Appleby, Madgen, Wellings, Tardrew
Mids - Steele, Roughead (ruck), Daicos, Sier, Tyler Brown
Fwds - Thomas, Mihocek, Varcoe, Cox, Stephenson, Crocker, Billy

Whites rotating between
Defs - Maynard, moore, Langdon, Mayne, Murphy, Levi, Aish
Mids - Cal Brown, Treloar, Beams, Pendles, Lynch (ruck), Flip, Ralph
Fwds - Tohill, Wills, Atu, Husthwaite, WHE, T Lockyer

Were playing about 20-25mins quarters. Umpired by AFL, but at times may have elected to rehearse a throw in rather than play on the full etc.

Observations/Highlights
White team well on top when Beams, Treloar and Pendles in the middle.
When Beams and Treloar rested later in proceedings, things evened right up. They were joined by Atu and Billy off the field for reduced time

Darcy and Maynard doing some kicking in. Madgen and even Tardrew for the Blacks.

Things got a bit willing between the Irish boys at one stage. Keane is a firey blood nut by nature and threw the first punch.
I thought it was all a bit unnecessary between team mates who won't be competing for a spot given they are at the other end of the ground. Tohill wasn't impressed (rightly so).

Forwards
Wills did some nice things. Took a couple of really good contested marks up forward and did some nice ground work up the other end but shanked his kicks each time.

Mihocek the most noticeable forward on the ground.

Mids
Phillips very busy (and along with Moore were) the best from the Whites across the combined time that I saw.
Josh Daicos was shaded by Phillips today on a wing I thought.

Treloar scored a nice stoppage goal from a handball from Beams - the prospects of that combination all season excites

Adams and Steele got more of the ball once Beams/Treloar rested up. Adams was a bit scrappy in his ball use.

Defenders
Moore - I think he'll finish Top 5 in the Copeland in 2019 if he stays on the park. Signs very promising about how his body is fairing too

Quaynor attacked the ball off the square at ball ins and made some nice spoils too. He remains neat by foot and finds a bit of the ball.
A real shot for early games I'd suggest.

Appleby was also industrious around the ground in defence, but I think was matched up on Wills when he took his contested marks.

Other drills
Some paired run throughs, with reward of a handball for the player who gets ahead

More match sim with reduced playing space (more like 40% of the field). Beams, Treloar, Billy, Atu didn't participate.

Aish got a bit of the ball in this and Murphy did some nice things by foot (raking pass over 50m to a leading forward) on a day when good skills generally weren't a recurrent feature. Levi also was involved in quite a bit of play off half back.

Cox spent some time in the ruck in this format. Spent a lot of time practicing his kicking after training with Tohill and subsequently by himself (with Brenton Sanderson).

FWIW from the VFL - I thought that Ralph and Husthwaite also did some nice things in this confined match sim.

On balance, a scrappy day for skills given the wind, but things are gradually heating up in terms of intensity and number of participants.

Reid in the rehab group? I must have missed this. Seriously, when is he not in the rehab group? Hard work for him.

Sure did. Then he did running at the end. There wasn't a lot that didn't participate. Just the usual rehab guys.

Lynch looked like he was getting more comfortable in the ruck. He won some of the tap outs. Even in marking contests he looked like he was improving.

No, I don't think they did. Mainly just running around the oval. Apart from Shaz/Dunn, Broomy.. I think the others will build up toward full training. They were all wearing Red tops. But now I can't remember if reid was in the match sim or not. I just don't remember him doing running drills.
There was so many players that I try to look for everyone, but not always easy.

No, I think just Grundy that I recall.

Thanks Jen and Albert.

Ten news had some footage of our training today but basically focussed on how impressive Darcy Moore was.

Guess we have to hope that he and the rest stay fit.

Was punches thrown between the Irish boys?
Put it this way, if there was, it would be front page news on our daily rags that pass as newspapers

Put it this way Chrispiessss, I attended training and it happened within 30m of where I was standing. That's why I typed it.

Not much more than 1 punch and some push and shove as Tohill initially remonstrated/responded, then came back again as they headed toward their position 30m further away and then protested and sought protection from the umpires to draw attention to his aggressive handling by Keane.

But it wasn't exactly a replica of Setanta and Cameron Cloke either. it was heated, but I don't think we'll have another Andrew McLeod vs Tyson Edwards type cold war develop over it either.

Where has Howe been?
Still coming down from that mark against Melbourne.

(Still not mark of the year apparently; Daniher took a nice chest mark so that was the winner.)
