Lets be honest. Most politicians in this country most likely come from rich private school boys boarding schools. I do wonder how many politicians today have came from one. Be interesting to see some real stat on this if anyone can do some research on it. Reckon it be like 95% if I had a guess. What do they study in these schools I wonder. Not Woodworks like I had to. Politics maybe hmmmm. Is it like a politician draft when they graduate after they brainwash these dumb kids for years into become like there fat rich white dad's who is also been probally a politician.

Something that this pandamic has clearly shown is the lack of diversity and also gender equality in the upper politic ranks. I know it gets talked about a lot in other industry's but why do we turn a blind eye on Politics. I find it a little suss like it's a who knows who sort of arrangement in todays parliament. Just drafting typical fat losers to become Prime Minister's like Scott Morrison, Malcom Turnbull or Kevin Rudd, Bill Shorten. Its one idiot after another and I almost forgot the dumb fat Albanese or whatever his name is as he will probably become the next Prime Minister. Don't forget that Smug prick Paul Dutton and you get my drift.. The list goes on for years and years. Dare I say it. Its seems fat rich middle age white man dominate Politics.

We have hardly any females or people of different backgrounds. And not talking about Julia Gilliard. The one and only female Prime Minister and probally never again will we see another female run this country. I'm not being sexist I'm just stating facts. It's a boys club and they vote who leads. They treated her like s**t and tossed her out like dirt. She was just a prop and didn't have a chance anyhow. I'm sick of seeing these fat useless middle age white man in Politics. On the news dictating what is best for this country. They have no idea up there talking about how our country needs to be run. These idiots have ruined it for many many years. The question is why does it never get mentioned. Is it to much for people to get there head around.

Why does it seem like our political leaders is just a rich boys club. I'm tired of it. Why isn't there other people with different backgrounds and gender in Politics. I'm not talking about just one female or one person of colour. There should be a lot more. At least split 50/50 in parliament. Where are they. Where's the voice for the everyday normal person. Where's the diversity. Where's the multiculturalism of what our country was made from.

Makes you wonder hey.

Why should there be a 50/50 split in anything? Let alone politics. Women aren't egomaniacs like men

Two hundred k a year with expenses and a cushy pension for life if you're not so repellent they reject you after one term. That's why pre selection is the real hard yards.

If it was a clean slate sure, but given it's already full of wormy private schoolers with no real talent or ability I think most people would give it a miss.

$200k a year is nothing to the Rudds and Turnbulls of the world.

Hence it attracts the sort of people who don't want to be practising family law for the rest of their lives.

Of course you've mad an assumption, but its probably not without merit and consideration. So I think its worthy of discussion.

If you extend the rich private school education to university (rather than as you say woodwork), it adds another dimension. Ive learned over time on social media when there's an angry debate about an issue - say climate change - and there's protests, comments like "get a job", "leftie do gooder uni bums", "they go to uni and get mixed up in all this socialist stuff". Now if uni is the pool for such breeding, then it must be applied to private school university students also. But privates are associated with by extension law, commerce, economics, accounting which lean more to the right/central right.

So there's much confusion there, and assumptions that uni = lefties.

In general there is pretty narrow spectrum of the Australian experience amongst the political class.

The system incentivises the participation of a few specific types of people.
Lawyers, failed business people, religious nutters, useful idiots, sociopaths and people trying to make the world a better place

Mostly people who have the financial means or a career path that allows them to build standing within a party, then walk away from a job to run for office - in no certain knowledge of being elected, and no real job security beyond the next three years if they do.

Union officials, lawyers, those with family wealth, and career political operatives are the main culprits - most fit multiple categories.

As a former private schoolboy myself - albeit not s particularly expensive one - I've seen about half a dozen of my old classmates go into politics at varying levels.

None of them I would be confident in correctly ordering a round of beers.

I don't know about school type but the issue is too many people going into a political degree straight our of high school and then interning with a party. Never actually getting real experience to inform their ideological opinions, it's all just theory in a lecture theatre and then the political spin world. This is why the socialist alliance nutters are just as annoying and fundamentalist as the young lnp folks.

Same issue with the education system with teachers never actually leaving the educational bubble before going back in the classroom.

I don't really know anyone in politics, but I know a couple of people by a few degrees of separation.

One person I know studied politics and ended up a political staffer. Works for a federal Labor MP but he's a bureaucrat rather than a party man. His career will be in the political system, not necessarily in the ALP.

Another popped up with Cory Bernardi's band of nutjobs. Had no idea he was that way inclined let alone that way inclined enough to get involved at a political party level. As far as I know given no one voted for them he just went back to normal life.

Only moderately useful one I know ended up an MLA (lower house) in state parliament. I don't live in his electorate but he does and always has so is at least in it for the right reasons.

For himself and his super? ;)

Because for every Penny Wong who tries to have a go at politics, there's about 10 rich, well-off, private school educated, white male putting their hand up to get a turn before her to play the Game of Mates.

Huh? Penny Wong went to the same spooner Adelaide School Gough did. Did Law. Became a Lesbian. That's gets you an automatic senate seat ticket in the Labor party.
