Going for a kick of the footy, a hike etc is all normal imo. Just never heard of any group of guys going for a walk to socialise.

I go to the beach, to the snow to a million other places with friends but as an unplanned meetup, after work, a Friday night, where else do you go? The cabaret?
If you and your mates are into it sure why not.

What do people who don't drink do to socialise? I mean do you still meet friends at the pub but just drink a softy?
Grab a coffee or takeaway meal, watch a film or sport, smoke a joint and play video game, go for a walk (yeah that’s right get your cardio in, you’ll be the same when you hit 40). I see bands and djs regarly I’m sure most people have hobbies they share with their mates?

Pubs are good too.

I live near a national park I see bros walking together every day, why not?

You just never see it. Always see a group of guys running, cycling or hiking but never just walking around the streets talking about their days.

Sure, you won't see people walking around the suburbs with their mates (I don't mind it as a bit of "retail therapy" though, get new handbag or whatever )... plenty of groups of friends head to walking trails though.

So? You’re not obligated to do it yourself but having not seen it also doesn’t mean it doesn’t or should t happen.

Do it don’t do it, you’ve made it pretty clear you think it’s weird but it’s just another option to catch up and not drink, if it makes you uncomfortable don’t do it.

I am a massive binge drinker. I can go Monday-Thursday without touching it. Friday I will have 3-4 if I haven't got much on, then Saturday depending on what I'm doing I can have between 5 and 20. Sunday I'll have a couple to wind down. I only really feel the urge to drink on a Friday and Saturday though.

So probably average around 15-20 drinks per week. Will occasionally have a bev on a Wednesday or Thursday if I'm feeling it.

This weekend I 'took it easy'. Had 2 Friday, 7 last night and on drink 4 tonight.

Last weekend I had a few things on from Thursday to Saturday, I easily polished off 40 drinks. Felt like s**t until Wednesday. Was probably worth it though. Had a lot of fun.

You sound like me and the group of mates ive grown up with - we dont drink mid week but hit it on the weekend if we get together. Back in our 20s we'd always have a massive saturday night and maybe a silly sunday. In the summer (no footy) wed have massive friday and saturday nights. Probably did that for 15 years (18-33 - blokes tapered off around 30 as they shacked up with their now wives)

Met up with a couple of these mates friday night and had about 8 beers (had the families with us so had a 'quiet' one)
4 on saturday afternoon at home after afternoon gardening in the heat
none today (sunday)

Yeah currently 29 and the mates are definitely slowing down but we manage to find a way!

If we get together it's always a big one. Doesn't matter what the occasion is. 8 beers is a quiet one these days for sure haha.

About an hour ago I got a call from one of my very good mates (who knows about my history and is really supportive) telling me another of our friends in our circle took his own life last night. Drank himself to death after separating from his family. I'm in shock, total disbelief, I mean this guy had the world at his feet. Well off, dressed to the 9's, incredibly popular. He was the last person I thought would have substance abuse issues. I'm currently sitting at my desk at work struggling to concentrate.

All fellow BF'ers even one's I have had arguments with before, take care of yourself and for god sake reach out to someone, anyone if you need help. Even though I'm a total stranger PM me if having a tough time.

Sorry to hear that man.

But let it hurt. It needs to hurt. I originally came from a part of the country where suicide is rife, we lost plenty of people I grew up with, and you find yourself becoming numb to it. We can't ever let it happen.

My boss pulled me up and asked "is everything ok? you're not yourself. I explained what happened and he was great, said take the day off go home and try to relax however Im better served at work to keep my mind off it. Also went for a walk at lunch and stood outside bottle-o seriously contemplating going in. That little devil voice in my head trying to give me an excuse to hit it. I kept walking and grabbed a protein shake instead.

I am seriously numb now. Dropped some valium to take the edge off the anxiety and gone through a range of emotions from anger at the selfishness of suicide to downright miserable he is gone. Made an appointment with my GP tonight, might need to get back onto a psychologist. I haven't had an urge to drink for ages but it arose today.

Definitely talk to someone, psychologist or family/friends. I went back to a psych last year for the first time in about 9 years. Just do it when you need to

Which has triggered a memory for me - I haven't purchased a carton of beer since 2017. 98% of my beer drinking these days is in pubs. Very rarely have a beer at home anymore.

Having not had a drink in 6 months I did have a random look at the BWS site yesterday, it's like cartons of beer have gone up close to $10 since

Yep, I came into a little money and was able to buy my first decent beer (ie. non-furphy) in months. Not only have decent craft beers crossed over $25, but most of them have shrunk from 6 to 4.
