Looking ahead to the most important series for a long time, we all of a sudden have a gap in what was just looking to be a solid-ish lineup.
As has been stated by some in another thread, opinions on our batting depth appear to be split differently
Thought i'd do a poll with what I feel to be the main replacement options for the Ashes
Usman Khawaja - The frontrunner at this stage
Alex Doolan - One of the more in form domestic batsmen
Glenn Maxwell - Is he good enough to be played as a pure bat, probably not
Steve Smith - As above
Callum Ferguson - Largely forgotten
George Bailey - Leader at T20 level, probably hasnt had the domestic season nessecary
Rob Quiney - Been tried at test level albeit very minimally
Joe Burns - Probably too young at this stage in what is an unexperienced side
Michael Klinger - Selectors could choose to go for older experience, especially English experience
David Hussey - As above, but less likely
I think that the last four rounds of Sheffield Shield will be pivotal in deciding who gets that last batting spot. I think throwing a lifeline to one of the older blokes with English experience wouldnt be the worst idea, cause I would not feel confident of a middle order of Hughes, Watson, Clarke, Khawaja
