I wouldn't be surprised if it's Bailey. The selectors obviously like him, and I reckon there's a real need for an older and wiser head in the middle order (and out in the field).

That's why I think Klinger. He could captain the side of Clarke got injured and Watto was injured.

Copying failed English policies won't help us win the Ashes.

BTW, didn't you have Adelaide as your location just a day or two ago?

Klinger is a gun but. :/

Me? Nah, I have been Melbourne all this time. In fact, right now I am bantering for Vic Metro against South Australia in the SFA so definately not Adelaide at this time ;)

He averages 37.25 over 98 FC matches. He's not a gun.
Klinger's one of those before and after guys - his career average isn't really relevant, we need to only consider the past few years. Having said that, I wouldn't call him a gun either.

37 isn't the worst, remembering that he has played many FC matches in England. Playing over there wouldn't be unfamiliar for him. And he is leadership material

Maxwell leapfrogged him from Melbourne to Sydney, as Khawaja is still only standby for Clarke.
Muddying the waters there, aren't you?

Seems to me that Maxwell has been called in as a batting all-rounder, in case Watson is injured. That's not the same as him being called up as the specialist batsman next in line.

Oh and Quiney did at the start of the summer too, says to me the selectors are only including him reluctantly.
Yes, Quiney played but his lack of runs meant that Khawaja is now ahead of him. That's why Khawaja was in the squad for Melbourne and Quiney wasn't. Isn't that pretty clear?

I don't know what you mean when you say the selectors are including him reluctantly. Is someone forcing them to pick him?

They're picking him because they think he is the next best option, which suggests he will be the next cab off the rank once Hussey finishes. Obviously that can change if Maxwell gets a run in Sydney and does something amazing.

You have guys like Quiney who sit on the fringe of the state side for many years and then get picked for the test side based on 1-2 very good seasons, and then you have guys like Klinger who as serviceable for Victoria and then very good for SA for several years. He would be a better bet the Quiney was IMO.

Maxi is a must I reckon.

:D

Hey, he's experienced, one of the more consistent batsmen in the Shield, a handy part-time medium pacer, solid against spin and still has a few years left in him.

Also, you're rhyming 'right' with 'right' in your sig.

How about:

He hits batsmen hard
He gives 'em a fright
That's Mitchell Johnson
His bowling is just right

?
I know, that was troubling me. But remember this verse from the Barmy Army?

He bowls to the left,
He bowls to the right,
That's Mitchell Johnson,
His bowling is shiet

I was trying to change that :/

I'm not sure Cricket Australia would be happy about forking out for the two seats Cosgrove will need to fly to India and England as well as the extra food bills.

Good slipper too, would fill some pretty big gaps there. Sadly Cosgrove has never had the good sense to get himself into even the remotest of condition considered acceptable for a modern Test cricketer. Talent is undeniable, achievements at f/c level are notable, but as Milburn would be unlikely to be considered for today's England XI, until Cosgrove takes his fitness seriously he has about as much chance as I do of playing for Australia. Which is a shame.

I don't have an answer, but what I do know is that it's not about blooding someone for the future. The future is now and it doesn't matter whether the bloke is 20 or 40, we need the best possible replacement to perform in 2013.
I know it's already been said but Brad Haddins ticks the boxes and is still a better glove man than Wade .
Warner
Watson
Cowan
Hughes
Clark
Wade
Haddin

They're as bad as each other, anyone who thinks otherwise hasn't seen Haddin with NSW this year. Haddin as a specialist batsman is the best option but I have no doubt that it won't happen.

The last line should be "his bowling gives batsmen a fright" :p

Or delight...... when it misses everything and rolls to the boundry for 4

Finch has the talent, just needs the scores in the shield. (Just ton up son!)

We've had a history of doing it in the past with Warner and Symonds, and his game is perfectly suited as a number #6 imo, he faces the new ball in the short formats, and is agressive enough to take over from Hussey imo.

I'm still not sold on Cowan, but we can't move on Cowan, Ponting and Hussey in the one summer before back to back Ashes.

I'm not Usman's greatest fan, but it has to go to the best in-form batsman (even though his form is extremely overstated).

Shaun Marsh is another I'd consider at #6, definately well ahead of Ferguson.

If I had my way, Watson would move back to open with Warner, Usman #4, Marsh #6.

Anyway you look at it, Australia hasn't been in this state since the early 80's, even then, we had a far better batsmen around the mark like Dean Jones, S.Waugh and Border as the great batsman. etc

Probably the worst batting lineup were taking to a series of this magnitude since the 50's imo.

But on the other side of the coin, it's the strongest pace unit (still developing) we might have produced in quite some time.
