Ok sign an assistant that we want coaching from about May onwards. Blake Caracella for example you're an assistant for 12 months and you are on a 3 year senior coaching contract at the end of that 12 months. Make it clear to everyone Ken is on his last 12 months and his contract will not be extended.

Ken has a problem with that he can walk. About May I think.

From what ive heard the opposite is true
Then I stand corrected. Regardless, if the only change made at the end of the season is one assistant moving on, we'll have again scapegoated someone to save Hinkley's job. This makes us an even less attractive proposition for quality coaching staff.

Wasn't Monty sort of promoted into the midfield line duties?

So that's two in consecutive years out of the midfield that is going to look to leave. Perhaps look at the common denominator?

In the last 10 years we've seen three list rebuilds (13-16, 17--18 and 19-present), multiple coaching staff and structural changes (Richo, Walsh, Voss, Hart, Schofield, Montgomery, moving Bassett from back line to forward line, Cornes, Brown, Lobbe etc), not to mention added some big names who were on countless occasions dubbed the missing piece to the puzzle (Ryder in 2014, Dixon in 2015, Watts, Rockliff and Motlop in 2017). And we've also turned over the high performance department on multiple occasions going from Burgess to McKeown to Stuart Graham.

And yet for some reason or another we as a supporter base can't dare speak of changing the one last piece of the puzzle that hasn't been turned over yet, because you know, he's a good bloke and stopped Port going broke.

From what ive heard the opposite is true
Chad, in my view, has never been in the line manager category. Skills yes.

Nathan, again in my view, is not a forwards coach, defensive maybe, but has barely an attacking thought in his head. The game has changed and left him behind.

Know nothing about the other guy.

So I doubt that Monty is the weakest link! Anyway, I preferred him in the back lines.

We currently don't have a senior assistant. What line coach from another club could we get to come in to fill that role? Surely, given the doubts over Kenny's tenure, the position would suit soemone with senior coaching ambitions.

From what ive heard the opposite is true

Im a little on your train however what I will say about our assistants is:

  • Bassett - strength has been as a defensive couach, not suited to the forward coaches role .... (why move him from backend)
  • Montgomery - his best time with u has been as defensive coach, appreared to add some different aspects to Bassetts work ... (why move him from backend), have seen nothing in his midfield work that excites me.
  • Cornes - Little to no coaching acumen at the level, our defence has taken a massive step backwards.

  • Voss
  • Schofield

We lost both coaches, and replaced them with no-one, we placed our runner in as Defensive coach. Either we were throughly unprepeared for the idea that they may get opportunities, or we have been negligent in putting our coaching structure together.

For me, Monty or Basset back to defence, get a forward coach that teaches forward craft, and get a midfield coach.

Ultimately, for a club to announce the 4 flags in 5 crap and then rip the guts out of our coaching structure, suggests someone needs to find a new role.
