Distinguished NMBF people,

Those of you who have the privilege of attending training can you please disclose if Mr J. Waite is carrying a bit of excess?

In the photos above it seems he lacks definition in the bicep region and as they say never trust a photo (especially a shopped version).

Your honest feedback will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you and kind regards,
Sherm

He's in his regular nick Sherm, no better or worse than previous years. His muscle definition has always been, in his own words, 'a bit sloppy'.

Waite never really looks defined, I wouldn't stress too much unless he's turned up in Motlop shape.

Looked fine to me today but I was paying more attention to how he was moving than anyone's bicep definition.

How were he, and the rest of the team, moving?
I didn't get to see much - just the last maybe half hour. They were working on set pieces, mostly stoppages in the forward half. No 1st years, no Goldy. Not sure who else was missing. Jacobs was ding some run throughs on the side but while he looked in good nick is clearly being managed. Saw Wrighty on crutches in the foyer. I've got new glasses but my sunnies are non-prescription so I had a bit more trouble than usual making out who was who.

All the ruckwork was Preuss vs Maj. Preuss' tap work was excellent but Maj's follow up and second efforts to become an extra midfielder were outstanding. normally when you talk about a ruckman becoming an "extra midfielder" it refers to blocking, tackling, maybe getting hands on the ball and feeding out a handball, but Maj adds the ability to burst from a contest unlike any ruck I can remember.

The usual suspects did their thing. Gibbo was busy, JZ seemed to be making an effort to lower his eyes going forward, Mullett used his right foot almost every time in the game sim (been told that having a useful right side will be good for his career?), Neilson broke even with Waite in the air I thought.

I think it was Arj mentioned the levels of energy and intensity the other day, and while it might be because I wanna believe, I thought the same. Considering it was the arse end of an (apparently) 3-hour session coming into Christmas it was very lively, blokes being pumped up for good efforts, no signs of slacking. Weird watching training without Drew, Boom and WELLSY in particular (*snif* my iPad's autocorrect still wants to capitalize WELLSY and I can't bring myself to stop it, at least until he actually plays a game for the filth) but seeing it up close for the first time I reckon it will be ok.

Went to training again today, the 2 players that have impressed me so far this pre season are:

Higgins is magnificent physical condition and has been a step above when it comes to any match practice he's participated in.

The other is Ryan Clarke who in only his second year already has an AFL body. He's in close work and workrate from and to a contest is first class.

Outside of this McKay and Pruess look to have trimmed down their body fat.

Durdin(disappointing) is about 5 kgs short of where he should be and 10kgs off where he needs to be.

My Thoughts on the training. Jack is areal leader, always vocal and encouraging. Jy Simpkin looks likely, can see him putting on some size in the next year or two. He was throwing the ball under one leg onto the ground and catching with ease. Has good skills when marking and kicking both feet. Was not involved in the main season but was working in front me. Will become a fan favourite very soon.
Thought Neilson was strong breaking tackles in the quick hands drill they were doing.
Marley williams was good in the drills but in the match practice turned it over twice . Nickname hearing the players is the obvious 'bob'.
Higgins never fumbles and makes great decisions .
Cunnington has axe handle shoulders, looks strong. Does not get moved off the ball.
Durdin was good in the match practice took some nice marks.
Larkey seems to have time with the ball in hand, reckon with a bit of work will be a handy player in years to come
Wagner good in match practice
Dumont also looks strong and fit

One thing I did notice, they play on quickly but there were a lot of turnovers.

I think also reckon a lot of the turnovers were due to the younger players not use to the intensity.
Very happy with what I saw

Any McKay sightings ?
McKay did all the he training except he match practice. He then did goal kicking.
Looks a lot leaner this year. Will be a big unit. Just hope he doesn't become a loafer if that the right word. Maybe it's just st his running style

I had a brief chat with Ben Jacobs as he was heading off, asking how the foot is. He said it feels fine and he's doing running on a "day on, day off" basis. I then asked if he is on track for Round 1 and he replied "hopefully". I took that to mean he has some doubt.

Someone made the point above that in match simulation, the players are focusing on moving the ball on quickly and yes, there were some turnovers. But the good news is that there was also some very slick end to end movement with leading targets being hit reasonably regularly. Some good tackling, too.

Thinking about having another dabble at Top 4 on Sportsbet. :thumbsu:

Durdin in defence is great news. Would like to see him push for second key defender early next year and have Scooter and EVW battling it out for third.

At his age and with his injury history, we can't rely on Thompson to play on the big forwards anymore.
One thing I noticed s that EVW is nearly the same hieght as Thompson .
