In France, they don't put up with it. They just show up and bash them.

Quite honestly, there are limitations to school based learning and one of the biggest is that it's undermined by lived experience. If your parents do not value education - I've heard from a boy in one of my classes, "Those that can, do; those that can't, teach." - you yourself are a slim chance to value education yourself.I think the problem is now we have a block of younger voters who are far enough removed temporarily from the ills of the 20th century that it doesn't ring true.
And they get political opinions from memes
I desperately hope you’re right, but I’m not that optimistic. I can’t see a way out of our current abandonment of facts and truth. It's rather ironic, but future generations will look at misinformation by a public figure - of the sort we find common in contemporary advertising, mere puffery - as a crime against the public. Publicly broadcast dishonesty will be viewed as criminally irresponsible, because that is what it is.

It's either that or we go through a violent recontextualisation of the current status quo - into which we will violently punish those who attempt to deceive the wider public - and the reason why I feel it will go the the softer path is because people's willingness to die has dampened significantly since life expectancy started to rise.I desperately hope you’re right, but I’m not that optimistic. But the people digesting the misinformation don’t realise it. It’s like we have two parallel universes. It's either that or we go through a violent recontextualisation of the current status quo - into which we will violently punish those who attempt to deceive the wider public - and the reason why I feel it will go th the softer path is because people's willingness to die has dampened significantly since life expectancy started to rise.
We'll see, but I think multiple people will kick ip a massive fuss when an alternative is provided.
... and then you do a bit of digging. You look to the discoverable facts. You check out what everyone's saying, not just those you agree with, and you form as clear a picture of reality as you can.But the people digesting the misinformation don’t realise it. From time to time I have a bit of a crisis of confidence. Is my diet - mostly comprising the Guardian, MSNBC, with a few RawStory articles and the odd foray to the ABC - is that feeding me a fantasy world? Am I the one caught up in a web of misinformation?
I think expanding on this is this idea that "doing your own research" is viewed as a noble pursuit by so many now.... and then you do a bit of digging. You look to the discoverable facts. No-one is immune from being wrong, so you're careful about how willing to act you are in the absence of information.
That, to me, is the difference: being wiling to say, "I'm not sure," or "I don't know". Admitting that you don't have all the information, or at best an incomplete picture. This doesn't lock you into immobility, because it has a natural second and third step: getting more information.
I think an awful lot of people don't have the willingness to admit they don't have all the answers, and even if they did they mightn't have the time to really look into things.
I really think the problem is how unwilling people are to just say, "I don't know," as though it's embarrassing not to know the answer or to be put on the spot or as though life were a gameshow in which you lost points for incorrect answers. If people were willing to raise their hands in the air and shrug when confronted with something they don't have enough information about, the culture wars simply wouldn't exist.I think expanding on this is this idea that "doing your own research" is viewed as a noble pursuit by so many now.
Holocaust deniers in particular "oh i dont read mainstream misinformation, i know about jet fuel and burning bodies, couldnt have happened". Science and millions of witnesses along with cold hard evidence disprove all their talking points but they dont care because thats all part of the machine or whatever.
Trumpism smacks of this, forget logic and proof and history, ill ignore all that in favour of confirmation bias.
I dont know how but if we can somehow convince people to be rational in their questioning rather than wanting to be individuals (or whatever they wanna pretend they are) wed go a long way to combating it.
Yeh listen more than you talk. Especially when it comes to lived experience stuff.I really think the problem is how unwilling people are to just say, "I don't know," as though it's embarrassing not to know the answer or to be put on the spot or as though life were a gameshow in which you lost points for incorrect answers. If your response to hearing something like tampons in men's bathrooms is to ask why instead of outrage or vehemence, you're going to receive an answer that will make sense to you.
One of my favourite quotes is from Oliver Wendall Holmes. I have it printed out and stuck on the wall of my study.Yeh listen more than you talk. Especially when it comes to lived experience stuff.

Does exercising in public now make you a neo nazi. Maybe I’ll be called a Nazi now, despite me being a Jew, for calling this rubbish out.
Just like the supposed rise of antisemitism within Australia, no jew I know is scared to leave their home or has been harassed for being Jewish.
Maybe the big media should stop grifting to Dvir Abramovich and his ADL cucks who bring a bad name to all of us Jews.

If you're wondering why they're running exercise sessions in a park
Or there was all those protests against their sunshine boxing gym
It's because they use those things to groom teens and grow their ranks

Emily recognised her son on TV. He was standing with a group of Neo-Nazis

UFC has played a part in the rise of Trump, and if I was a far right recruiter I'd be looking at gyms too. A few roids, a dab of speed, a bit of indoctrination, and all of a sudden your puny incel is putty in your hands. If you're wondering why they're running exercise sessions in a park
