Absolutely sensational from Andy.

Incredibly high standard of tennis from both players given the time also.

Tough ask for Andy to back it up against RBA, but a pretty open draw presents itself for a nostalgic run here.

Has to be said too given the upsets today… the depth in men’s tennis right now is awesome.

Whether it be the pointy end has dropped a little and isn’t quite firing like it would be mid-season, but the 50-90ish ranked players are a tough out for anyone right now.

I dont think so this loss will outweigh all the positives will take him months or longer to get over imo
Hard to say really. He has show a lot of resilience to get over injuries, so it could do the opposite and just fuel him more to go further. Not the only player to have lost like that before, most of them bounce back.

Whats Murray's record like against the special K's?. Completely owns the H2H from memory and last night showed why. Gets everything back, they get frustrated they can't put him away and lose form or focus. When I saw the matchup initially knew Murray was going to win. He is in their heads. Lucky Kyrgios doesn't take it to heart too much as there good mates.

Either Kokk makes the jump this year or he never will. 27 in a few months, pretty much older than all of his other top male contemporaries. Don't really want to see another promising start to the AU summer only for him to not make an impact for the rest of the season.

I agree but I think a big jump is probably top 20 which would make for a good high point. I think anyone expecting him to be winning grand slams is asking a bit much.

By big jump what did you have in mind? Top 30? Top 20? Top 10?

He’s not even top 100 right now. And the poster above didn’t say ā€œbig jumpā€ so for mine get into the top 100 at least but also focus on being more competitive. To go toe to toe with Andy Murray for six hours is an incredible feat and he should be proud.

Murray owns the H2H vs Nick, 6-2. Of Kyrgios' 2 wins, 1 came in Andy's first match back after hip surgery in 2018 at Queens and the other was in the Hopman Cup in 2016. Can't read a lot into either of them.

Andy has a 2-0 H2H against Thanasi.

While Kokk should have closed it out in the 3rd, not enough credit for Murray in here. Kokk did remarkably well to win the first two sets because Murray was also playing at an extremely high level. One of those matches where both players are playing at an equally high level and unfortunately one has to lose. I’m sure while heartbroken to lose, he will also have happiness for Murray given their close friendship and what he’s done to get back.

If he has a healthy season...inside top 50, pushing for a seeding come next year's Aus Open, should be the goal.
