So if you're at work and have a friend who asks if you want to go for lunch you'd say you have to ask your girlfriend/wife first? I find that weird to be honest.

That would be odd.

Mentioning it to your partner afterwards, or if it was for the future, that you're going to catch-up with a friend, is pretty normal though I'd have thought

I think the caveat is the friend is a former flame, partner, interested party.

A vexed topic it is.
Tell your current partner you ask yourself why should I there's nothing to hide.
Dont tell you partner, partner finds out and asks whats this all about then?
or
Dont tell you partner, partner finds out and doesnt care.

So many variables.

Or just bring your current partner and put "3-way" on the table early

Honestly if I was married and I found out later that my husband had lunch on his own with a female and didnt let me know I would feel wierd about it tbh.

Everyones different. Fair enough. How about if it’s just a walk/coffee to get out of the office? I’ve done that often.

Will ask my wife. Will let everyone know if I’m sleeping on the couch later.

Yeah I hang out with female colleagues on lunch some times.

My wife has no issue at all.
