Is Ben Cunnington even in Norths best 22?

I don't know how North supporters feel but I'm glad they passed on Rohan in 09.

Uh yeah, Rohan. He's coming along slowly but looking really good, has already shown us how brilliant he can be.

Polar opposites and both have a lot to work on.

Rohan is yet to show anything to suggest that he's going to find enough of the ball, which was the one criticism of him at draft time.

Cunnington has really only taken one game by the scruff of the neck (Rd 24, last season). As an inside midfielder, if you don't have pace or strength you're in trouble. The strength will come with time for Cunnington.

People seriously underestimate how long it takes for slow inside mids to develop. Selwood was set in his first year, Pendles and Ball in their second. They're rare cases. The likes of Bartel, Watson, Kennedy, Thompson, Mitchell, Cross and Swallow all took 4 years before they were impacting games.

Of course, the good people of BF won't afford him that time to develop and some have probably written him off after two seasons.

Think it's the other way round. Skinny flankers/mids take longer to make it than inside players. Brock Mclean was match ready before Andrew Walker who has X factor and athleticism like Rohan. Selwood and Murphy were AFL ready before Gibbs and Thomas. Rohan will have a break out season and just keep improving every year.

Honestly, how can you say that after I just listed the best slow inside mids in the comp? About 80% of them had a breakout year in their 4th season. It's quite an astounding finding.

Watson, Kennedy, Thompson, Mitchell, Cross and Swallow. 4 years. Bartel, 3 years.

Murphy used his pace to find the footy. Selwood's not exactly slow, but as I said, he's a rare case. The norm is a 4th year breakout.

If you don't have pace, you need strength and usually a big engine as well if you want to find the ball outside of the contest. That takes a number of preseasons.

Yeah, Sam Mitchell, Andrew Swallow and Jobe Watson would disagree with you.

Cunners was rated the better player as kids, and I see no reason to disagree with that.

Cunnington is cake, Rohan is icing.

Rohan was drafted on the back of an average of 13 disposals per game in the TAC Cup and 14 disposals per game in the U18 Champs.

To date, he has a career high of just 16 possessions.

He needs some substance to go with the highlight reel. Given he struggled to find the footy at junior level, there has to be considerable doubt over whether he will ever step up.

Rohan is a matchwinner, Cunnington not. Therefore I take Rohan.

Yep. Rohan's shown an elite attribute at AFL level and looks to be a game breaker. I've not seen anything from Cunnington to suggest he will be yet, but he has a lot of time to change my mind.

Its a tough one to call, neither has really set the league on fire. Rohan looks great at times but always seem to be injured or just flashes in and out of games and does struggle to rack up the touches. On the plus side he has great speed and agility.

Cunnington has also had his share of injury problems and seems set to be more of a solid player rather than a star. I could see him being something like Christ Masten at this stage. Which isn't the worst thing but you probably hope for a bit more. Good at the inside stuff, not too fast or much of an athlete.

Neither one would be a must have but I guess Cunnington at this stage, I think is the more likely to be a solid afl player. Rohan I think may end up a bit like Reimers (i know Sydney fans won't like this comment) but oh well.

I would take Rohan,

Even with his busted leg.
Cunnington looks like a dime a dozen VFL player.

Ben took another step forward today and Gary has copped a terrible injury.

It's unfair and unsavory to keep this poll going and I hope the mods shut it down.

Based on todays game.. If I had to pick a player to line up for my side next week, it would be Garry.

It speaks volumes about your characater that you can be so flippant and tasteless.
