Ben Reid v Tayte Pears

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

Right now... Pears easily.

Reid hasn't played enough games as a backman at AFL level for us to have any idea how he will turn out. He was ripping it up for the VFL in the backline at the end of last year but that that won't necessarily translate to talent in the AFL.

Poll is too early :)

I agree, just trying to prove a point to my Pies supporting mate who reckons Reid is better currently. Reid may turn out better, but now it is far too early to tell.

Very Good Post and I agree. Way to early to tell

What do Bombers fans see Pears becoming?

I think he is more a 3rd tall who can run off. He can be damaging coming out of the backline.

Dont know if he is capable of locking down the key forwards.

Our Key Backman for the next 10 years.

And he has certainly shown the ability to lock down the key forwards. I think most Bomber fans are exceptionally happy with him.

He already does this at age 20 , give him a few years and that shit will be happening every week.

At this stage I think every pies support would conceed Pears is better. I hope Reid will overtake him though.

This.

Of course Collingwood fans hope that Reid gets better, but it isn't the case at the moment.

Personally I hope Gumby becomes better then Franklin as well, but hopes don't make it so.

Let's be realistic as well.

The gap between Reid and Pears is no where near as big as the gap between Gumby and Franklin at present.

I agree with you... if Franklin gets back to his best. He's shown not a lot in the last 18 months. Gumby's only played like 14 games, so there's no way he could be compared to Franklin in any way, no issues there.

But we all see Franklin as the player he was in 08, and you'd hope & imagine he returns to that form, but until he does...

Franklin is playing very good footy this year, despite his team not following the lead of he and Hodge.

Franklin's numbers are comparable to Pavlich's, and he's been down on form. If he continues to perform ala the last two weeks, he'll get another AA nod.

Back on topic.

Reid is showing more than Pears to me. Pears is a good accumulator of possession, but he makes too many clangers and gets too many goals kicked on him.

Don't mix up Pears and Clangermakers Podgey.

Pears averages more clangers than Schoenmakers. Last I checked he was second only to Scott Thompson amongst defenders for clangers.

Also leaks too many goals. More of a half back than a true key defender.

9 disposals, 4 clangers in his return match against Richmond last week.

Also had 6 kicked on him by Jack Riewoldt.

He came back prematurely from a fractured arm, he looked uncomfortable spoiling and contesting. Fletcher had 2 kicked on him, wasn't all Pears. Reiwoldt should try kicking them when they matter, I reckon. Tayte is a talent for a 20 year old defender, he is more comparable to Nathan Brown than Ben Reid I reckon.

Still, getting 4 kicked on you in a short space of time is bad enough.

Are you using the injury excuse? I thought when you cross the line, you're fit to play? At least that's the standard a lot of Bombers use when trolling Hawk players :D

That's funny because he kicked 4 in a short space of time on you as well.
An arm is still in pain 3 weeks after fracturing it, regardless of who you are, and when a little prick walks up and punches it before a match I am certain it would have gotten worse.

He kicked 4 across the whole game.

Again with the injuries excuse. Normally I wouldn't mind, but you've all been so vocal in the past on Hawthorn's injuries being used in this way.

Even without his hand problem, Pears has been leaking goals.

11 disposals, 6 clangers against West Coast.

If you read anything about what I say about Hawthorn it's always that your injuries are the things that have been hampering your ability to get back to form, it's been effecting the teams mentality and therefor the intensity has disappeared.

Also, RE Reiwoldt vs Hawthorn, 3 hours is a short period of time :D
