I know this is a massive call but he has a bit of Dustin Fletcher about him. Some contests I think he is done but he just sticks out one of them go-go-gadget arms and spoils it from miles back.

Great kick in terms of accuracy, penetration and vision, very strong mark, agile, very tall, super quick, good reader of the play, finds the ball, VERY long arms and improving as a spoiler. He exudes confidence as well which says a lot for the way he has been managed. He was the youngest player in his draft (got in by a day or 2 from memory?) and he has taken a while but this kid is a gem.

Sums it up beautiully.

Beat Jesse White all night in just about every 1-on-1 contest.

We've found quality here.

I've been a fan since day one (wasn't a fan of the Boot or Latte-so admit when I'm wrong- jury still out on Latte) & has been very good. His kicking that was bad when he played seniors had many questioning him. But in his Ressies games that I saw he was generally good.

I've always thought he was a talented kid who didn't really have the confidence in his ability to play at the highest level. Sorta of "kangaroo in the headlights" syndrome as well.

When he fully believes in himself, i reckon; if we need him he could go back to being a FWD.

Very sticky mits, rarely drops a mark he gets two hands on - which is a great skill when the defence is under pressure.

Would like to see him develop at least a competent rushed kick on his right side, as at the moment I'm not sure he even has the option to kick on his right?

I really ike this backline...

Shaw Presti Maxwell

O'Brien Reid Toovey

One of the best backlines in the game...

Jeez O'Brien is good.

Agree he very much Reminds me of Dustin Fletcher.

His Defensive Game was Fantastic and flogged Jesse White

It was a very pleasing effort.

He only had 10 possessions but his defensive work was mostly outstanding (still makes a couple of errors due to inexperience) and flogged White.
:thumbsu:

Id have goldsack over maxwell.

move maxwell into the middle as a defensive mid, ala adelaide game a few years ago.

I still can't get over how good Ben Reid has become over the last month.

It was only about a month ago that many were questioning whether he had what it took to make it at the senior level as a CHB, yet now he is showing so much potential.

He is actually "reliable" now, which is almost the biggest compliment you can grant a defender, or even an AFL footballer.

His mark in the last quarter one on one just finished the game, as Sydney players were running onto it if it fell to ground, but he took it with 2 grabs.

His use of the ball by foot is sublime most of the time, although his decision making still needs some development.

We have a Centre Half Back though, and he is a "modern" one at that.:thumbsu::D

Agree his Improvment this year is amazing. People last year where thinking of Trading Him and Now he is 1 of the best Young CHB in the league:thumbsu::):D:eek:

I'd like to see him take a few shots at goal from outside 50 Harry O style after running past the guy who just marked the ball.

Would cover 60+ metres if he got onto the kick properly.

Highly unlikely, Martin has it in the bag IMO but he might get a Premiership medal instead :p
Martin's ineligible due to suspension, IIRC.

This was that game when you know the player is for real...previous doubts were put to rest, especially with his crucial marks when out of position. Love his reach!

His raking left foot kicks are fantastic and like others have said I look forward to him going for a run and having some shots from 55-60 meters.

Think he may be one of those 'lindsay gilbee' types receiving the handball from a player having a set shot from 50-55 that can't make the distance.

Only question for me is whether he has pace - any idea on his running stats from the draft or from training reports?

From memory it was about 2.92 sec for 20m. Definitely under 3 sec as Hine talked up his speed at the time of drafting.

I think the Dustin Fletcher comparison is a fairly good one. He'll be able to play on many opponents but I think he will struggle on the big gorillas like Barry Hall & Jonathon Brown. Doesn't matter because Nate or Presti will take those guys and they won't be around for much longer.

I think he has had a toast in his honour the last 4 or 5 weeks straight, it's safe to say the Ben Reid bandwagon is well and truely full.

I also cant believe how far reid has come, i never rated him but now im soo surprised how good he really is.Start of this year one of my mates at school was saying reids useless and hes going to gold coast and crap like that, lol he barracks for richmond soo yeh:D

This is great stuff. A pacey, raking kick who can take good defensive grabs, not just punch to the boundary. Smarts.

Would be interesting to watch a couple of games from 1-2 years ago, and a couple of his recent games, just to marvel at the improvement.

I honestly never would have expected Reid to get as good as he apparently is now. And still so young, has potential to improve even more! o_O

Suddenly all those people who still have number 20 on their jumper can wear it with pride once again!

Well a Few Years ago Reid was playing Up Forward and hate to say he looked useless up there. He is a Key Defender not a Key Forward
