Brisbane, St. Kilda, Port Adelaide.
Brisbane is in transition with the loss of Lynch.
St. Kilda look good and settled.
Port have a very versatile and flexible forward setup.

Total pts scored after 22 rounds

Port : 2413
Bris : 2447
StK : 2443

Ess : 2282
Roos: 2142
Melb: 2127

Clearly the best three and not much between them.

I think St.kilda becuase just an awesome fwd line, always dangerous

BUT potentially Bulldogs. With darcy there.

Definetly not brisbane, theyve got knwone other then brown now that lynch has gone

Ramanauskas and Alvey? Your kidding.

I wouldn't think combined they would of kicked 50 goals in their entire career. What about adding a Hird, Hille or Lucas to that poll?

Bulldogs???? Umm... ok... let's assume Darcy=Gherig or Lloyd, then who plays CHF? Surely not Rawlings...

It would say we have the best forward line.. Brisbane and Port scored alot more goals from there midfeild than we did.. something we will want to improve this year.

Sydney on paper has a great forward line but they can't get them all on the ground at once (due to injuries) and they have trouble getting the ball into the forward 50.

LOL. Dogs = worst forward line in the league with or without Darcy there.

Whilst in this case those statistics prove true.....it isn't always the case.
Points scored includes midfield goals, Port, Bris and StK I'd suggest score more goals from their midfield than anyone else.

I rate the StKilda forward line the best, ahead of Port and Brisbane (losing McRae and Lynch hurts) but put their forward line in the Hawthorn or Richmond line up and whilst they would still be the best on paper their points scored would be well down.

Essendon's forward line of Lucas, Lloyd, Hird, Rioli, Cupido, Watson is up there with the best, just don't get the delivery.

90% of the Saints score is by the forward line where as brisbanes it is probably about 60-65% as their midfield kick a large proportion of their goals. Like Power, Voss and Aker

True, but on what other criteria are you going to judge? Forward entires vs pts scored is probably a better indication. But it still wouldn't discount players other than forwards scoring.

F: Didak, Rocca, Fraser
HF: Tarrant, C. Cloke, Burns

That'd do me if a midfielder can step up to relieve Burns. If not Maybe Carracella fior Burns if we draft him and if not I'd put Woewodin on the flank. That won't happen - more likely L. Davis who I'd have at Williamstown until proven otherwise. Either way that's a potent forward line with plenty or marking power. Some would say too tall but not me.

Leaving aside my own team, St. Kilda can set up a very good forward 6.

Our weakness is that we don't kick enough goals from the midfield. All up the midfield of Harvey, Dal Santo, Ball, Hayes, Powell and Black this year kicked 56 goals. Sure that sounds a lot but thats only 13% of our score. Compared to brisbanes of Aker, voss, power, black and lappin and copeland (who just made up the numbers), who have 128, 31% of their total score so those estimates above are fairly accurate

I think Brisbane is equally good as st kilda and port. I for one am glad lynch is gone. he was way past his prime, and my god, he could not run and his accuracy was much to be desired. now bradshaw is going to be able to play more games for brisbane, and as long as brown don't go swinging (fingers crossed) and notting keeps playing like he always does, then the brisbane forward line will remain hard to beat. 2005 they will be less predictable, and i suspect more midfield and small forward goals. it will be very exciting to see how they fare, and hopefully lynch's retirement helps them fare for the better.

I forgot about him, you St Kilda guys just have too many options don't you?

Kosi could also be added. The top 6 on our goalkicking list are forward line players.
1. Fraser Gehrig 103
2. Nick Riewoldt 67
3. Stephen Milne 46
4. Brent Guerra 29
5. Aaron Hamill 27
6. Justin Koschitzke 20

Where as the top 6 of Brisbanes there are only 3 forward line players, Voss counts as midfield.
1. Jason Akermanis 44
2. Daniel Bradshaw 40
3. Alastair Lynch 40
4. Jonathan Brown 39
5. Michael Voss 31
6. Tim Notting 30

Ok 72% of StKilda goals are by forwards, compared to Brisbanes 40%. So i know which i would rather.

Note Brisbane forward line i used was the top 6 forward players not including notting and voss. So it was Bradshaw, Lynch, Brown, McCrae, Carracella and McGrath

On paper you'd have to say Brisbane, Port and StKilda are the top 3. Saints probably have the most firepower, but aren't quite as consistent as the others.

But once again those stats are misleading as Voss, Aker and Power in particular spent time playing and kicking goals as a forward.
