If Tuohy is our weak link in the backline, we are going to do alright, I reckon. The guy should have made the AA squad.
I like my defenders to defend. Feel he is suspect on agile forwards. Both top teams are flush for small forwards which means he is forced to defend. Wing would probably play better to his strengths of straight line speed and his kick

I cant believe the blue sky hype about Buzza

Played rugby league till he was 15 then converted to Aussie Rules - suffers from lazy eye ( not having a go at him their - ive got glaucoma myself ) which cant help him

Is overhead marking is very suspect - in fact the best mark he has taken - the ball hit him on the head - and he caught it on the 2nd bite . You couldnt say at this stage he is a good kick - those shanks against Richmond

Couldnt care less about him crashing packs - big deal - and i wouldnt say he quick - in fact he is borderline slow

Yet he is being hyped up as best left footed CHF since Royce Hart

He has got along way to go to before coming a competant AFL Player

His marking was fine in the vfl. Showed a bit there. Is a project but thats what you get with late draft pick forwards.

His chances of being anymore than a role player are low i think.

One thing you haven't taken into account is his rapid improvement. He looked shocking and out of depth in his first vfl season to becoming a real leader in the seconds

Agree with concerns re crameri. Essendon have also offered he and stringer a deal. Maybe stringer has him being contracted as a part of his deal. Bit nervous about that.
That's one time I hope our name doesn't come up at the trade table

B: Z Guthrie, Henderson, Bews
HB: Stewart, Taylor, Tuohy
C: Duncan, J Selwood, Menegola
HF Crameri , Hawkins, Parfitt
FF: Cockatoo, Buzza, McCarthy
R: Smith, Dangerfield, Ablett
IB: Guthrie, Blicavs, S Selwood, Kolo
*Devon Smith?

I think Motlop will go unless the coach gets his way and is successful in convincing other powers that be he is worth keeping?
He may not wish too stay? McCarthy fitness? Gregson fitness? McCarthy the best bet IMO.

Parsons, Gardner, Jones, Simpson

GHS, Lang, Stanley trade? To GWS?

Menzel gone.

Devon Smith must now take priority or is he involved with three way deal to Carlton? Is Stringer really coming? (No he is not) So he's out.
Cats must not give up anything more than a 3rd round pick for jr and pay his front ended contract, no player should be exchanged for a 34 yr old. None of this will be easy. That team looks a 8th -10th team to me.

I read that and needed a double take. Touhy a weakness in our backline? Lolwut? I've heard it all now! The guys a dead set gun.

Good team but McCarthy needs to fit forward somewhere. Maybe omit kolo.

Replace DSmith with McCarthy.

On SEN we got absolutely savaged for possibly trading GAJ, Smith, and Stringer. Clearly Jackson looks like be might be off. Sad coz he is good.

Go Cats!!!!!

You were always stout on Bews, even from last year. Must be good to see him succeed. He's done very well and im pleased to see it continuing.

GO Catters

Apparently he's coming. I'm assuming Lang, Menz and Motlop are gone.
Menegola and Thurlow would probably have to be part of trades to get all those players. ( No way the club would trade CGuth or Blitz)
Can't realistically see McCarthy or Gregson getting on the park much ( if at all)
I love the look of Simpson and like Parsons but I'd have Crameri ahead of them right now.
Im pretty sure the club stated categorically that we are NOT interested in Crameri.

Oh fair enough I never heard that.
I know a lot of footy "journos" are full of shit but for Purple to say we've offered a 2 year contract and we're categorically not interested is a bit weird.

?

You have me confused for someone else. I always thought his long kicking with his eyes closed would be an issue

McCarthy is just about cooked. If I you want a genuine small forward, keep your eyes on Jamaine Jones. He's a beauty.

Guthrie is an interesting one. Soft as butter but has talent. The difference between us bombing out in the finals and a flag is someone like him stepping up to a grade level. If he does i would move him to the back flank with 5 min burst through the middle here and there.

Spot on. Doesn't work hard enough either.

Duncan has shown Guthrie (and others) what stepping up to the level is all about. Menegola very impressive too, especially considering his lack of AFL experience. Guthrie is peak age, 150+ games. If he doesn't improve in 2018, no point in keeping him in the side. One could already argue that we should have kept Caddy over Guthrie.

This side just has too many players that don't cut it atm, Guthrie is at the forefront. All talent, no guts. Crouch bros great example of what hard work can achieve.

Something like this but wouldn't be surprised if we pull a CHF out of nowhere during the trade and free agency period.
B: Stewart Henderson, Bews
HB: Kolodjashnij, Taylor, Tuohy
C: Duncan, J Selwood, Menegola
HF: Stringer,Buzza, Parfitt
FF: Cockatoo, Hawkins, Parsons
R: Smith, Dangerfield, Ablett
Interchange: C.Guthrie, Blicavs, S Selwood, Z.Guthrie

Don't understand why we would want Crameri, he's 189cm not like he's a key forward option, third tall at best.

B. Z.Guthrie Taylor Stewart
HB. Bews Henderson Tuohy
C. Menegola Duncan Cockatoo
HF. McCarthy Stringer Parfitt
F. Ablett Hawkins Motlop
R. Smith Dangerfield J.Selwood
INT. C.Guthrie Blicavs S.Selwood Parsons
Realistic.

Think that's me you refer to. I have been into Bewsy forever.

Trying to select a forward line for next year is impossible, with injuries to McCarthy and Gregson, chances that any or all of Menzel, Motlop, Lang, Murdoch and Stanley will be gone, and talk of Ablett Stringer and Smith as potential in's...

Hawkins and Cockatoo seem the only sure bets at this stage... and commentator's say they are worried about our backline...

It'll be interesting to see what approach the club take without Lonergan at full back.

I don't really like Henderson on the last line, I reckon he does his better work higher up the ground.

I think Harry could do the job and do it pretty well, despite having another year on the clock.

Not sure about Gardner; if Hamling wasn't good enough then I haven't seen much more from this guy; would be nice to get a look at him at senior level at some stage though.

As for the best side in 2018, I'll wait a while, long way to go before the list is settled, who knows what shennanigans Crazy Scotty and the boys'll get up to during the trade/draft period .?

To quickly go on the record re: rumored trades: I'm a big, flat no on Devon Smith, I could see Stringer adding something if the price is right, and I have reservations on Gary Ablett too, at his age and with his more recent injury history. Is #20 our first selection in ND at this stage? We won't have that for long with the club all too willing to trade on it's supposed recent 'destination club' status.

I'm keen for the club to push Buzza as much as is practical, I like the cut of his jib.

If I was to speculate, I'd guess that overall we'll lose a couple of talented, under-performing players and bring in a couple of injury-prone/aging/under-performing players as replacements.
After that, we'll be left sift through the bones of another draft with late selections in an effort to replenish and replace the likes of presumably Cowan and a couple of others (Waybill?).

Where does everyone see parfitt playing? I see him as a pure mid as his best position as he looks a little lost in the forward line
Most mids are. It's a hard position to play.
It's why good genuine small forwards are so valuable.
When Stkilda were good Riewoldt, Godard etc got most of the credit, but to me Milne was there most important player.
In a team that struggled to score he always found a way.
When he had a shocker they couldn't win.

Wondering about this... some changes I'd like to see - not sure we will however.

Jamain Jones looks like a dead set small forward. The club may not realise cos its been so long since they've had one - I'd love to see him play all the JLT games as a deep crumbling forward.

Blicavs. Could he replace Lonergan? I am a huge fan of the big man - but I do see the fact that he's been moved from role to role has hurt him. 100 games in, it's time to give him a specific role and let him be. Not tag one week, Ruck the next, wing the next. Henderson is too valuable floating to be a key matchup defender. And Taylor is 30+. Stewart isn't big enough to take a Tex Walker or a Jessie Hogan - so we either need to put our chips on Gardner or draft someone - or trade for someone - or look within.

Would love to see Narkle get a full preseason (he's recovering from a redo so depending on how that's going) and play all the JLT games. He could be anything.
