I do value goal kicking accuracy for sure - I just think that comes with practice and probably more in Jamarras case, fitness. There have been key forwards over the journey that lack either the intensity required, or forward craft to generate the shots and that's something that's rarely able to be fixed.

Even if we're talking the goals that Jamarra kicked I believe it puts him either on par or ahead of all of the others for his age group.

It's not too dissimilar to Nick Watson, a lot were taking the piss out of him early on last year for not converting his opportunities, but to be able to generate as many scoring opportunities as he can suggested early on he was going to be a very good player, which is really starting to show.
I know where you're coming from.

But kicking 'clutch' goals and nailing the gettable shots really is what key forwards are there to do.

If they can't do it, they're not really good at their jobs.

Jamarra has always been shaky at best in front of goal.

Max King is similar. Has been unreliable in front of goal.

Here’s the career stats of the three most mentioned in the thread

Tilthorpe (2020 draft)
56 games
68 goals (1.21 a game)
27 Goal assist

Darcy (2021 draft)
31 games
48 goals (1.55)
7 goal assist

Treacy (2020 draft)
59 games
82 goals (1.39)
20 goal assists

Here’s a player that wasn’t even on the list

Amiss
50 games
86 goals (1.72)
25 goal assists

Is Logan Morris a Key Forward though? He's only 191cm so he should be playing midfield or 3rd tall at best.

He is taller than 191 cm. Just because he isn't 200 cm doesn't mean he should be a midfielder.

Here's a broader, somewhat rhetorical question...

How many of these supposed 'young gun KP forwards' ever actually end up being champions?

Time after time after time I see these threads and hear these conversations - only to find that in the end, realistically none, maybe 1, ever actually end up being as good as we all thought they would be.

Especially at the Dogs. Naughton, JUH and now Darcy. I see a pattern.

Fev was 191cm. Toby Greene is 182cm and yet a marking threat. Pure height ain't everything thats for sure.

I haven't said anything against Thilthorpe at all.

I am just bemused by suggestions that either is better than the other at certain points, particularly at suggestions of better ball use.

My observation of Sam Darcy is that he is actually one of the better ball users to come into the game.

It is pretty rare to see any player able to turn and deliver on either foot of one step. I haven't observed Thilthorpe do that and he may be able to do so.
RT does it almost every game. His ability to deliver the ball to a leading forward is one of his strong points.

In his draft year there was talk about him being used on the wing, as his speed and delivery for a guy his size is almost unheard of.

It isnt a one horse race, and RT is right up there with Darcy. It's great to see an era where we have so many good young tall forwards hitting the comp. It's been a while since we had that.

2015-2016ish era? Cameron, Lynch, Hogan, Daniher. The last 3 had up and down careers compared to say Hawkins and Riewoldt though.

Cameron is the only one I would rate as elite out of that lot. I think Lynch was a bit over rated, and the other two are in no way the quality of Darcy or Thilthorpe.
We also have Treacy, Dear, Andrews, Georgie, King etc playing as well, so I think this is the best big man era for quite some time.

When they were up and coming, I think those 3 were very highly rated. But I get it, we get excited when our club has a young gun coming through. In 10 years we will probably talk about another exciting group of forwards in similar terms.

Go back a few years and maybe it was Hawkins, Kennedy, J.Riewoldt and Walker.

A bit before, Buddy, Roughead and co. And so on.

Hogan is elite … just needed a drug-free environment to work in

For those of us that are interested in the work Champion Data do...

Champion Data’s Daniel Hoyne has revealed Adelaide forward Riley Thilthorpe is their highest rated player in the AFL since Round 21, 2024.

It's a 5 minute listen at the bottom of the article. Fascinating imo!

Is that their X-ratings again? Rating against expectation

He and Daniher hit great early and late career peaks, with a few ups and downs in between - plus Daniher pulling the plug early. Talent wise as youngsters, it's definitely silly to dismiss what their prospects were compared to those in this thread.

He wasted his entire career. Potential is one thing, performing is another. Character is just as genetic a trait as being able to mark the ball and kick straight.

There's been plenty of players that have elite talent but never applied themselves, or got careers ruined by injuries, and they all end up forgotten about and never spoken of when the greats are talked about.

You had to pick one player now for a team.
A young Daniher, Darcy, Thilthorpe or Hogan, who are going with?

He had part of his career ruined by the fall out from his fathers death and in overcoming cancer at 2 clubs that didn’t show proper care
