The "You joined our League" is the argument you make when you don't have an argument.

Corruption is not the Australian way.

Not at all. This competition has been around for over 120 years and for the overwhelming majority of those years the Grand Final has been played at the MCG. It is not only the home of the competition but the home of the sport with the very first games played in Yarra Park over 160 years ago. It's history, it's heritage and it's here to stay.

Feel free to go back to supporting the SANFL if you like but the fact is the interstate sides had their opportunity in the 80's and they blew it. Supporters jumping ship to support the Eagles and the Crows was the final nail in the coffin for the WAFL, SANFL and any chance for a national breakaway competition separate from the VFL.

Keep banging your head against the wall though.

Crowd capacity is irrelevant. We need to follow a model like the NFL where the game gets rotated to different cities. The fact that our league has a deal with the mcg is unprofessional

Agreed pass it round the footy states SA, WA and VIC. Not against the non footy states having it just not sure they have good enough stadiums

Again, the you joined our league argument is such a pathetic non argument.

None of the expansion clubs complained about this when they joined, but I'm content to revert to what we had so that rank-and-file supporters can attend all h&a games again. The other clubs can please themselves. They can even have the 'AFL' label.

Do you not think the Marquee Game status, the fact that it is promoted as the Dreamtime Game, brings in a bigger crowd than a say normal Essendon Richmond game later in the year when 1 or 2 of the teams are out of finals contention?

No. They could hold it in Perth when Richmond are playing poorly and people would still come in droves.

The "pathetic non argument" comment is such a pathetic non argument.

The corrupt contract is almost as bad for the small Vic teams as it is for the Non Vic sides. They continually get shafted with fixturing, the contract ultimately favours the big Vic clubs and makes them richer. Melbourne is the anomaly, due to their MCC connections they are a minnow club with big club privileges.

I wish we had State Of Origin.
Just so the Vics can show these sideshow clowns who the Bosses are.

Corrupt Contract deez nutz...

Agree. Should have the same rules for awarding the Superbowl to a city too.

From the National Football League...
"The host stadium must be in a market that hosts an NFL team and must have a minimum of 70,000 seats, with the media and electrical amenities necessary to produce the Super Bowl."

In 2032 we’ll have a brand new GABBA, state of the art Adelaide oval & Perth stadium and then add in the beautiful scg with the old & new. But the worst part is we’ll be stuck with that old painted up tart hosting the GF. What a relic that’ll be in a decades time. And not one sentence In the contract stipulating when the old dump will be renovated.

Unfortunately it is true.

Victorian Government involved with a decades long contract to host the GF and blockbuster games at the G is both corrupt and evidence the prevailing attitude of the league is Victoria first "interstaters" second.

Come back when you have a 100,000 seat stadium that you can fill every year for it.

Why? The long term contract means it doesn't matter how big any other stadium is. There could be a 200k stadium somewhere else and it would still need to be held at the MCG.

OP is right. It stinks to high hell.

Another option is to have the GF as a best of 3 series and have each game played in a different state. It would generate a huge amount of money to the game. Have a game at the MCG every year to satisfy the contract that's been signed but also run one game from Perth / Adelaide then one from Sydney / Brisbane..
AFL needs to make some of the lost revenue of the last couple of years and would help finance these teams that are being propped up by the AFL.

I’ve just come to accept that it is what it is and it’s not going to change.

I would just argue that if the GF is going to continue to be held at the MCG for the next 1000 years, us non vic teams need too be scheduled to play at least 3+ games a year there for exposure.

Some years non vic teams may only have 1 game a year at the MCG. If that’s where the GF will continue to be held, we need greater exposure to the ground throughout the year.

For example, this year we only played 2 games at the MCG. But then we have played away games against the hawks and saints at Marvel. Now as we have seen with Geelong, a home game simply means a home state game. These games should be played at the MCG instead for non vic teams.

Instead, quite often we are also shafted to played in Tassi for away games instead of at the MCG as well.

Give us increased access to the ground and I am ok with it being at the MCG.

Should be 60K minimum seating. Adelaide Oval would have to build a stand on the North side. Perth is ok and Sydney/Brisbane would need significant upgrades ie: unlikely to go through

Game 1: 'Home' Side at their 'home' ground
Game 2: 'Away' Side at their 'home' ground
Game 3 if needed would have to be at the MCG

So in theory the MCG should get on average more than 1 GF a year. Corporate requirements would be spread allowing for more club members/afl/mcc members to attend

Issue is if Geelong/Docklands tenants make it, is their 'home' ground at the MCG or GMHBA/Docklands?

Come back when you have a 100,000 seat stadium that you can fill every year for it.

Or, by the way, a stadium that can take those numbers you’re listing for the big games. Because right now Richmond have 100k members, Collingwood have around that, Carlton have 80k.

The benefits of having a huge supporter base for the code in Melbourne.

The whole MCG crowd argument is a bit of a furphy. Sure there's 100,000 people in the ground but look at how many club members are allocated tickets this year at Optus vs how many are allocated to the MCG in any year. It won't be much different because one third of the MCG is made up by MCC and AFL members.

The delicious slice of irony that will come out of Melbourne making the Grand Final this year is all those MCC Demon supporting members will miss out on seeing their team play in the GF after waiting decades, and for decades they've attended Grand Final's they really had no right attending when you consider legitimate club members miss out.

It should not be just about the stadium but what is best for the competition as well. I would not mind some sort a alternate arrangement between the MCG, Optus, Adelaide Oval and The big one in Sydney hosting in alternate years. May depend on who is competing.

The exception can be if 2 Vics team made the GF then that game can stay at the G.
