Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but after that didn't we appoint Harry Redknapp as manager, taking him from Portsmouth in 2008?

Yes you are correct, but in my defence they were barely a Premiership club

Yeah thats correct.

Last time we did business with Southampton we got G.Bale lets hope for something similar when we snare their managers!

Would one L.Shaw be any. possible. chance?

(edit. I know it's a pipe dream but surely we could rule up the £27 mill reportedly for a 10 year defender)

No chance at all. Wouldnt be smart to go into that battle. Morreno from Sevilla would be though. We have a history of getting Liverpool's targets and can outbid them but obviously no CL football to offer

With the prices being quoted £15m+ for Lovren I don't think he will be worth it. Would love for us to sign another young CB like the Dutch guy Bruno Martins Indi or Marco Roja to be pushing Chiriches for the starting spot with Vertonghen.

Great bit of small news on JV with him mentioning in an interview how appreciative he was of Pochettino giving him a call wishing him well in the WC and to stay focussed on that. That's a few interviews out now of players this week who are already looking forward to the new season (Dembele and Lamela earlier this week)

A lot of stories about Ben Davies the Swansea LB joining on an £8m deal. Will mean the end of Assou-Ekotto and push Danny Rose who was only so-so last season

I liked the look of Davies last year, has a nice offensive game, maybe a slight bit better than rose defensively too, but a real player to grow under poch hopefully we get it done.

Also lots of outlets reporting we've tied up Esteban Cambiasso on a free transfer.

Swansea have signed Kingsley, a LB from Falkirk. So the deal for Davies may not be far away

Also looking at Bony from Swansea who would be a very good get. Would be a good replacement and free up some wages if we allowed Adebayor to leave. Not overly happy with the Cambiasso link, think Capoue has to be given more than one season and Sandro when fit is a very good player in that role.

Agree Capoue needs to be given an extended run at it, there's been a few reports that Napoli are very interested in Sandro, but nothing solid.

Apparently we have told Napoli to up the bid to £20m for Sandro. Don't think they'll match it.

More news on the new stadium. The paint is continuing to dry as planning works are stuck in the courts still after 15 months! Also the fanciful idea of playing in the stadium while its being rennovated looks shot and we could be playing games in Brighton or Ipswich along with a few bigger ones at Wembley

Looking increasingly likely:

In:
Esteban Cambiasso - Free
Ben Davies - 8-12m
Wilfried Bony - 20-25m
Dejan Lovren - ???
Zakaria Bakkali - 5m

Out:
Sandro
Michael Dawson

Still holding hope we get rid of Lennon, Dembele & maybe Paulinho if the coach doesn't fancy him. As much as it'd anger some Spurs Fans, I think Bentaleb could be useful if kept in the squad; he's a great talent that Interim Tim chucked straight in with the big boys, and even though he did some very nice things, a lot of them went overlooked because of his mistakes. He'll only get better.

Also, not sure about Holtby next season. Felix Magath absolutely slammed his attitude a few months ago & I find that infinitely more concerning than any of his performances under our last two incompetent managers. I think he'd suit the fast Southampton style gameplan, but he needs to be fully committed.

Hoping the team for next season will look like this:

Lloris
Walker - Chiriches/Lovren - Vertonghen - Rose
Capoue - NewCM
Lamela - Eriksen - NewLM
Adebayor

NewCM= Schneiderlin/Banega/Anyone who can pass the ball & dictate the play ala Modric; something Dembele is not.
NewLM= NFI. Couldn't possibly be that difficult to find someone better than Chadli.

Out:
Dawson
Holtby
Adebayor
Lennon

In:
Caulker/Eric Dier
Bony
Remy/Jay Rodriguez/Depay
Davies

Starting XI
Lloris
Walker - Chiriches (Caulker) - Vertonghen - Davies
Sandro (Capoue) - Dembele (Paulinho/Bentaleb/Carroll)
Lamela (Townsend) - Eriksen - Remy (Chadli)
Bony (Kane/Soldado)

That appears to leave us light on at RB but I think young Ryan Fredericks (spent last season on loan at Millwall) who played a few EL games for us could fill in there. Don't want us making too many signings like we did last summer, I see 4 definite ins needed CB, LB, a striker who can play wide and a main front man. Any other purchases should be dictated by sales e.g. If Sandro is sold for a good price another DM needed or if Soldado is sent back to Spain another striker.

ANOTHER great article on why Daniel Levy is the reason we never take any steps forward.

James Rodriguez, Moutinho, Oscar, Willian, Bernard Hulk all asked for by AVB instead he was given Gyfli, Dembele, Lamela & Soldado

I was just reading this article, was Levy forced to go after the second list or did he choose to?

I dont imagine we were ever really a chance at Oscar while at Chelsea, Rodriguez went for massive money to Monaco, Hulk was on huge wages and Willian always wanted to go to Chelsea.

I think if anything the article points at AVB knowing what kind of players the team needed, opposed to Levys shopping list.

It was while he was at Internacional our so called feeder club in Brazil who couldn't agree to the deal for him and our favourite Damiao!

Rodriguez he wanted the season before he went to Monaco, Hulk's fee was the stumbiling block and Willian and his agent shafted us.

AVB's ideal side going into 12/13 would have been something like this.

Lloris
Walker - Vertonghen - Kaboul - BAE
Moutinho - Sandro
Bale - Oscar - Hulk/James Rodriguez
Adebayor

Levy squibbed on a few mill for Moutinho and went with Dempsey over Hulk and James

If all that is to believed, what is the logic behind the over payment for the likes of Lamela and Soldado?

25 million for Bony seems excesive as well.

Baldini.

AVB wanted a respected middle man to negotiate deals and with Levy. Lamela was considered by Baldini to be worth the 25-30. And certain reports on Soldado's price is that it is very much incentive based with only half paid up front

That makes sense.

I understood most of the prices we paid were reasonable plus a Bale markup, I never understood the Soldado price when you consider the club was focusing on established players with improvement potential and if need be some sell on value.

While he did flop last season he was considered a decent buy before coming to us by most including having the thread started saying Soldado will score more goals than Negredo. He had the 3rd most goals in La Liga over a 2-3 year period behind just Ronaldo and Messi and initially he wasn't being used well with Townsend and Paulinho shooting on sight. Who knows what he'll do under a manager that may have us playing good football

Daily Star saying we have no interest in Esteban Cambiasso, also various outlets reporting an interest in Veltman from Ajax and Schniederlin from South Hampton. As well as the odd fluff article linking us with Lukaku.

After throwing the toys out of the cot hope liverpool are happy with that classless prick Lovren, do not want, overpriced as is.
