You just made that up.
no, he's mostly correct. There is plenty of stat data to back this up.
The thing he seems to miss is that you still need to be top 5 in attack to win the flag. although you don't have to score as much to be top 5 as you use it be.
in 2002 in the rolling 5 year average points conceded by the premiership team was about 86 points, and the 5 year average of the points for was 113.7.
In 2025 it was 71.6 points conceded and 91.7 points for.
No team in the last 10 premiers have conceded an average of more than 80, or had a points for average per game above 100.
in the previous 30 years before that only two premiers averaged less 100 per game.
You’ve got to have a good defense, no one is suggesting that, overall you need a balance. He said the premiers over recent times have been defense minded, basically at the expense of attack. Brisbane scored over 120 points in both of their last grand final wins.

I looked at 2 grand final winning performancesI think it’s a little silly using 2 games that they dominated.
You have to look at way they played across the season
Going on Lairdys first few matches, I'd take a Butts on his bikeNeeds a run past player like we had for ROB.
In the SANFL…

I looked at 2 grand final winning performances
Umm maybe because it’s a silly point. Of course they dominated and they attacked, you can’t say attacking wasn’t their main focus unless you were privy to their team meetingsYou’re missing the pint the didn’t score heavily because that’s their main focus, they scored heavily because they dominated the field

You weren’t privy to their meetings? Are you taking the piss?
You weren’t privy to their meetings?
I find the notion that you can say they only attacked because the dominated a statement you can’t make, otherwise you can say that about any team that kicks a decent score “they arent an attacking team, they just dominated and kicked a high score”.
And in the 2 most important games of the year, they kicked 120 plusgood thing I didnt say that then.
It is a statistical fact that premiership teams and the league in general has become more defensive over the last 20 years .
Brisbane over the last 2 years largely followed this trend as well
And in the 2 most important games of the year, they kicked 120 plus
I never said defence wasn’t important and teams didn’t worry about it, what we know is they scored lots of goals themselves, didn’t they? They didn’t let score too much either , did they?

Bickley Today:
"What worries me, some of our guys in defence don't really trust their kicks enough. Unless its Milera,.Josh Worrell is ok, Bond made few errors by foot, Laird is OK but really short"
Thats why the thought of Cook training with the backs all off season was quite tantalizing. I guess now we pin our hopes to Keane coming back quickly & more cleverer than ever!I think they trust them about right. Outside of Milera, none of them are good enough to be hitting up targets unless the receiver is well in the clear. This is the risk playing a style that requires precision kicking.
How can he tell that from his stats sheetThe nerd from Champion Data was just on Fox Footy. Talking about Murray Davis trying to get the Brisbane ball movement happening at Adelaide.
How can he tell that from his stats sheet
MutineerThey scrubbed an entire press conference because of him saying he didn't want to pick Dowling because he went through pre-season not having any plans to debut him in 2024.
So heresay.OK
