Kane Cornes just said Adelaide shoudl stop chasing Gibbs and give their first rounder to Richmond for Deledio.
I don't understand how Kane Cornes gets a gig in trade week. Aside from playing the game recently, what relevant knowledge does he bring to the table for a discussion about trades and drafting?

Starting to think Ahern is going to be part of this bundle of players. I'm definitely not against his inclusion. Pickett, Marchbank, and Ahern. Pretty much the entire GWS 2014 draft at picks 4, 6, and 7. Would fill the void for our horrible drafting/trading that year.

But we definitely need to retain at least two high picks this year. Those three guys have crazy levels of talent but all have injury concerns.

And pick#20. Never forget 20

But we lose 47... Armfield is the winner in the steak knives segment of the Judd deal.

Kerseten, McCarthy, Hamling, Adams, Hill.

2 key forwards, 2 key defenders and a running mid.

Very good off season for Freo if they do this...instantly replenish their KPP stocks which were paper thin.
I doubt they'll get Hamling if Adams is off. You're overrating Kersten here, and McCarthy could set fire to their plans in a petulant display akin to how he got there in the first place.

Horses for courses.

If a want to be a cop, I'll be allowed to put in some preferences for stations but there's no guarantee I get one of them.
If I want to join the armed services, same deal, could be posted anywhere.

There are careers where you have to sign up knowing that you could be required to relocate. I've got friends who've done it, and I've got friends who tried it, struggled, and moved into different jobs instead.

I don't see why being an AFL Player must include the right to choose which club you play for.
You're comparing public service with an every day job, and even then not everyone in the public service is necessarily conscripted or need to be deployed unilaterally.

Dogs trade news about to drop... Hrovat? Possibly Cloke...

Edit: Marcus Adams wants to go back to WA. Wowee!
He's only been there for a year... Crazy!

Things change too though. I can take up a job as a national sales manager, and it works for the first three years, then I realise I am sick and tired of living out of hotel rooms and that I want to settle down.

As long as players and clubs deal respectfully with eachother, which they tend to, I think the system works fine.

People complaining about clubs not having enough power come from a place of parochial desire. They want our club to succeed, I get that. But I don't want to punish players who need a change of scenario because it is inconvenient to the club.
But in this case the employee has given the employer late notice, forcing the employers hand (rather than a planned move like Mitchell trade). And then Adelaide announced it before they had even agreed a deal with CFC. (Trying to make CFC look bad/pay unders)

Very poor situation and unless CFC get two first round picks (#13 and #18 (in 2017) = 2,197 points) we should not trade. At worst our 2017 third rounder back = 483 points so it is equivalent to pick #7, which is less than we would get for Gibbs as a free agent (if that was possible).

I'm not comparing anything - I'm saying there are careers where you are required to relocate. Is there a reason that AFL Player cannot be one of those careers?

When anyone chooses a career, they need to consider the lifestyle impacts of that career. You can choose where you work by determining whether to continue working for an employer should they decide they want you to relocate. Why can't prospective AFL players be informed that, until they're free agents, they could be required to play for any of the 18 AFL clubs - and if they're not willing to accept that, then they should look at an alternative career?

I can't agree with giving clubs more power to move players. You have a right to choose where you work.
Players are club assets. If they are contracted, they get a say in where they want to go if a club wants to use them as part of a trade deal (ask Kennedy How he felt when the club asked him to move to WCE as part of the Judd deal) but if they are uncontracted, they should be able to be shopped around by the club to get the best possible deal.

When an uncontracted player comes out and say I only want to go to club X and I am not interested in talking to anyone else, they are basically crippling the clubs ability to get the best deal possible. By Tuohy picking Geelong, he has restricted what we can get because the cats don't have the picks to satisfy us and is a w***er move.

The club should be able to negotiate with a number of clubs, get what the other clubs are willing to put on the table and then go to the player with the best offers and tell them that these clubs are interested in him, and let him then field contract offers from the preferred clubs. Who knows, Sydney might be able to put another 50k/year in his pocket than Geelong can offer. But by only going with Geelong, he has restricted himself to what Geelong has to offer.

Agree with the point on Kane Cornes, I like getting Chris Pelchen's take, even if I don't like the bloke that much. At least he understands how things work. Being an AFL player qualifies you to play football, that's it.

Lids played how many games last year and is how old???

Crows may get 2 years max with Lids and likely declining quality. Gibbs offers 5 years, uninjured now and still at his peak.
Based on that comparison Gibbs is worth 3 first rounders.

But all 3 are very young so given particularly ahern to take time on his reocvery etc. be patient with them

What will you offer? Okay, what will you offer? Okay, they offered this, can you beat it? No, we'll deal with the other guy. Thanks.

Thing is Roos have 32 and 33. We have 25, Tuohy pick to come and 45. Roos next pick is 69 so they will offer one of those late 2nds and get him .... unless we somehow get 31 back from GWS in our trade.
I reckon we'll walk away if they want a pick higher than 40.

if we put a name to it...
Is trading Brodie for Marchbank, Pickett and Florent worth it??

Not sure if it is Florent, but it is for a fit Marchbank and Pickett. Are they?
