And you think that's good for the sport? Only 2 teams out of 32 with a chance to win a title? Not for me thanks.Basketball guy myself and my stance actually stems from the NBA. Owners locked the players out under the guise of equalisation and preventing super teams - driven by the Lakers TRADING for Chris Paul - i.e. giving up assets, and not necessarily 'buying' him, or having an agreement with players to 'team up'.
Now, fast forward to today, and the amount of money these 'small market' teams, who led the lockout, are now throwing at players is laughable. Mis-management of your organisations should not be rewarded. Teams are accountable for their own planning and actions.
"Super teams" are player driven. Teams offer a platform for this to be possible; and when I say teams, I mean teams / organisations that are well-run, have plans in place on / off field and are successful, thus making them an attraction for players to come.
Kevin Durant went to the Warriors because the organisation is A grade and are successful. They BUILT their team through the draft, and managed it as such that they could afford to 1) attract KD and fit him under the cap and 2) offer opportunity for success.
I agree the money being thrown around for players who are average at best is absurd. When you have a salary floor though, that'll happen, just as it will in the AFL. Teams need to sell hope to their supporter base.
