AFL site spruiking Gibbs to Adelaide again. Swatter suggests he's worth a straight swap for 13! Alternative proposal is a swap for Lyons!

What a joke.
We'd want more than their 1st round pick for sure.

I don't think straight swap for 13 or Lyons is fair, but, one thing I will say, is while I don't know much about Lyons, it was interesting that yesterday morning I think Cam Mooney ?? said that he thohght Lyoins was not far off All Aust HBF this year.

If only it wasn't Cam Mooney who said it...................

Surely not Lyons...must have been thinking Laird.

why? that was always the plan - build the foundations through the draft and then go after a big FA. The club hasn't made a secret of this. Going for fyfe is not a hail mary if we've done our jobs last year, this year and hopefully next year too. I wouldn't call Swans signing buddy a hail mary.

That's fair enough, it just makes me feel so uneasy. Carlton have serious history in signing saviors and whilst it worked previously it doesn't seem to translate well in this day and age. I look at Geelong (pre Danger), Hawthorn and more recently the Doggies who have built successful teams from the ground up through the draft, shrewd trading and FA's with consistency all over the park rather than one superstar on huge coin

On Buddy, he has yet to taste success with the Swans.

Ultimate success, no.. but 2 GFs in 3 years is a fair return in investment.

Adelaide can have Gibbs and a future 2nd round pick for their 2016 and 2017 1st round picks.

They are kidding themselves if they think we're giving up one of our best & most important players for one pick or a pick and a reasonable footballer.

Would they take Nick Graham & a pick in the teens for Rory Sloane?

Really?!? You're comparing Lyons to Graham and then Sloane to Gibbs?

Lyons did play 20 games for a Top 8 side. If it wasn't for a lowball offer from the Crows, he wouldn't even be available or talked about.

FWIW, and I love Gibba, 13/Lyons/Grigg for Gibbs/55 would do me.

And further, 5/13/Graham might just get you 2/21. Just saying.

The Gibbs + 24 (our 2nd rounder currently) for Adelaide's 13 + Lyons trade has been mentioned in some other threads this morning as I believe the rumour was floated on Trade Radio ?? sometime earlier today.

The rumour has copped a barrage of negative response by Carlton fans, which is fine as people will have their own views about the merits of the deal and whether it is a good deal for us or not.

But, there has also been a barrage of negative response from fans centering on the legitimacy of the rumour, and so I have come on here to dispel that, because last night I was informed about this exact same trade scenario from a VERY VERY VERY reliable source. I cannot reveal the source suffice it to say it is someone who works at Carlton and it's not the guy who carries the water bottles (think high up in the on-hands footy department). I actually mentioned this trade via PM to a fellow poster here in private earlier today, prior to seeing the rumour mentioned in other threads. You might chose to see that as further illustrating the legitimacy of the rumour.

What is important to note here is even if this rumour is true, and as I have tried to illustrate my view is this comes from a VERY reliable source, this doesn't mean this trade will certainly go ahead. What I was told last night was that this trade is by no means signed off. I imagine SOS must have 100s of like trade scenarios he is working through, and so there is only a small chance this trade, in its current proposed format, will eventually transpire.

But, the whole point of this post was to inform fellow posters that this rumour is, in my view, 100% genuine and almost certainly is something the club are at this stage at least contemplating. I cannot express this any more clearly.

Please do not PM me asking about my source as I cannot reveal this.

So this likely end up being
Gibbs and 24 for Lyons, Marchbank and any other GWS players we can shake loose?

I wasn't suggesting that trade would be offered or accepted. Obviously the Crows would laugh at it and exit the room.

The point is that they wouldn't trade one of their best players for a pick + a fringe player, so why should we?

It makes more sense with this proposed Gibbs trade should that #13 net us something we want.

If it was Gibbs and #24 for Mitchell & Lyons?
Even if Mitchell did nominate us over Hawthorn, I am not sure we improve much by losing Gibbs and gaining Mitchell (at best line ball result for CFC albeit Titch is younger), but I am hopeful we can draft better than Lyon at #24 in this years draft.

If we remove Lyon and #24 how do we see the value of:

Gibbs > #13 > Marchbank, Stewart and Pickett or Mitchell???

If we keep pick 5 and get pick 13 from the gibbs trade ill take that. Most likely 2 quality mids for the next 10 years. If we keep our second rounder, might be able to snare another quality mid. Its a good start in rebuilding the midfield.

At face value we lose if it's Gibbs and 23 for Lyons and 13. However, we may have bigger plans for 13. So take a hit in one trade and make like bandits with another.
Eg. Lose Gibbs and 23
Gain Lyons, Marchbank, Stewart, McKenna (13 for GWS players)

AND KEEP 5!

I'd rather take a hit on a different trade (ie. Tuohy) than on a trade involving one of our best and most valuable players.
