Lots of discussion on the GWS 4/5 players suggested by Barrass70. Not much on what it means.

If we trade in 5 players, we have a lot of delisting/other trading to do. Guys like DVR, Graham, Whiley, Tutt, maybe even Bucks (I hope not) would likely be history. That's not even accounting for trading in Hrovat, Lyons or anyone else.

That says to me we will be active in offloading players as well. Maybe Gibbs and Tuohy will be dealt to other clubs regardless because we need the picks AND the list space. I don't want either to go but SOS is determined to do it his way and the regular way has not worked for us for a long time so I am happy for him to have it his way for a while and live with it.

The point was made earlier, this will be the last chance to pillage GWS off-cuts this year. The trick is to get the right ones and SOS is in the best position to know. Like last year, we may have to take a passenger or two but we are not short of those at Carlton anyway...

Hope the 5th player in the deal is a decent midfielder......

Trading pick 5 for a KPD (yes, he's a versatile KPD) and the steak-knife collection of four others, without a high productivity midfielder among them does seem odd when the midfield is in such need of added depth and quality. Even Barrett, the poor man's Steele (?), seems to fill a need more than, say, McKenna or Pickett.

Silvagni must have this covered elsewhere, as the middle of the park sorely needs another couple of Hrovat's to add to Hrovat himself.

Exactly!
People like Jabba73 and TerryWallet may desperately want to see us get rid of quality at any cost, but wait until they see what that is replaced with. We need quality! Don't get rid of Gibbs unless it is a bloody good deal!
I did what now???

Terry Wallet sounding a lot like the man himself on trade radio today re Gibbs. They're both right, pick 13 is fair. He has looked great in our mediocre sides but in terms of the comp his best feat is making the AA squad once. I wouldn't do it out of fear of how bad our midfield would be short term.

Bugger Lyons, get Lever.
Signed until end of next year. Bolts wanted us to go after him as our key target but SOS wants Fyfe to be our focus instead.

Essentially our TPPs is being distributed with one of these guys clearly in mind but we're not going to have enough to land both so who we target has caused a fair bit of internal debate of late.

SOS is concerned about lingering effects of his knee reconstruction which ruled him out of football in 2014. Bolts points to the fact he still achieved plenty as a bottom-aged player in 2013, when he played four games for Vic Metro and had a strong season with the Calder Cannons.

Bolts has highlighted the fact he was Adelaide's second Rising Star nominee last year, in a game in which he gathered 24 possessions in and ran at 92 per cent disposal efficiency. Depsite not having the experienced Daniel Talia by his side, Jake took 10 marks, generated seven rebound 50s and won 14 intercept possessions, more than any other player in the league.

Bolts thinks he is getting better week by week and can still be a 150-200+ game player for us. He thinks he's a real leader and competitor and just loves the way he goes about it.

Despite the impressive resume already, SOS just can't go past Nate Fyfe.

SOS has been tracking him closely since 2012 to when Fyfe still polled the second-most Brownlow Medal votes at Freo despite playing only nine games in the home and away season, the fact that two were compromised because of his shoulder also didn't go unnoticed with SOS.

Despite his injury concern last year, the two years prior were elite and Bolts can't despute Fyfe was clearly Fremantle’s best contested possession winner which was also 14th overall in the AFL .

Bolts is largely concerned about his disposal efficiency but SOS doesn't care about his disposal efficiency, citing he won the AFL Players’ Association MVP award, All Australian selection in the and a second Doig Medal in 2014.

SOS believes he can get better still which he proved in 2015 by winning the Brownlow Medal, his second AFL Players' Association MVP award and another All Australian selection in the midfield. He is arguably the best player of the modern era so its a tough call.

Anyway this argument had led to tension building and I daresay had a big part in the recent rumoured rift between the pair.

It culminated in Bolts giving a lengthy but compelling argument to the board who were close to being prepared to overule SOS, but apparently SOS walked in while Bolts was finishing up, sat down with a considered look and had the whole room silent in anticipation. After a few minutes SOS stood up, looked and everyone earnestly and declared, better Nate than Lever.

That's all I know.

And on the speculation for players from GWS, expect none of them to have been drafted last year. GWS will be looking for a salary dump as part of the deal and players in the first two years are on standard contracts. Nothing for them to gain. They want to off-load players on good deals or players looking for pay rises (in the system two years plus).

That rules out guys like Hopper, Kennedy and other recent draftees.

If we get pick 15 or whatever it is back...then maybe...just maybe...I won't have to hang myself.

Bringing in those 5 players will improve our side. Which is the worst possible thing that can happen to us. Why? because it's only going to be a temporary and slight improvement. We will finish mid-range for a few more years getting shit first rounders, scraping into finals and then our guns will get old and we'll have to start again. Just like what happened from 08-14.

We've learned nothing. Happened in 04 as well. Improved our side for a season and then we missed out on 2 top 5 picks in the worst possible draft we could've missed them on. Could've grabbed Franklin and Lewis...

Nope instead, we finished 10th, got a shit first rounder in Russell and the rest is history, including the AFL changing the rules just in time for us to miss out on Selwood in 06.

How the **** are we going to build our midfield??? What with Pickett???? LMFAO.

I believe that's incorrect, the premise is that any uncontracted player can nominate for the PSD as it's a lotto and they aren't necessarily guaranteed to get what they want
They can nominate their salary.

Please take any follow up into the LM thread, but here's how it probably looks right now:

Out: Jamison, Walker, Graham, Everitt, DVR, Smith, Whiley, Tutt, Dick
In: Marchbank, Finlayson, Pickett, Stewart, Corr, Hrovat
Elevated: Byrne

That gives us 3 picks at the draft without any other names moving, but who knows, perhaps White will go to GWS so they have some senior depth in defence? Perhaps Tuohy will go?

go back a few weeks and this article thinks both Pat Mckenna and Jack Barrett are likely to be delisted at year end...i really hope these are not the 5 players as there seems a little to much hope involved on our part ,

I agree totally. That's why we should get in as many picks as possible so that we can keep pick 5.
What I posted was only a guess but it was based on the fact that Corr is still contracted, Hoskin-Elliott has been linked to Collingwood and Barrett has told the club that he wants to explore other opportunities.
I will be more than happy to see the players succeed but I will never be a fan of the trade.

If we get Marchbank and Stewart for Pick 5 (as well as possibly 3 other players or picks) that would be great.

Wasn't keen to give up 5, but for both Marchbank and Stewart it would be worthwhile. Obviously great if one (or two!) of the other three became best 22 as well down the track.

I was very surprised with Sumner, Lamb and Phillips last season, but would already rate Marchbank and Stewart ahead of them from what I've seen.

20 posts. This rookie has some big balls.

This is either the greatest "fly on the wall" post of all time or complete horse shit.

Sorry, seems way to detailed to be true. It Hansard on BF.

Don't even want to know how Crippa knows all of that...

The 5th player from GWS B70 hasn't mentioned could be Adam Kennedy?
Melbourne boy from out my way. Has fallen out of favor a little bit.

Was a regular fixture during their first few seasons, I thought he was playing really well.

Doesn't seem that 'left of field' though.

I don't know about everyone else but I think that the term 'steak knives' should be banned from use on this forum. NO MORE FREAKING STEAK KNIVES.
And surely taking GWS's 'salary cap dumps' might net us a best 22 CFC player, but surely our list stagnates somewhat and overall progress suffers. I think we all know what it's called....ferkin' list clogging!
