If Pick 5 was worth 5 players, Pick 13 must be worth 4.

Or a third rounder back.
What if Carlton did a 3 way deal with the Crows and G.C. with Lyons going to the coast (they are interested in him supposedly) pick 13 going to Carlton and Gibbs to crows and us sending pick 24 to G.C. for pick 8.........wonder if the coasters would be in it or not ??? If it could be done we would be getting 2 first rounders for Gibbs and losing pick 24 in the process.......just a hypothetical?

I like that, doesn't seem too far outside the realms of possibilty...

I didn't say that. I said I'm happy for SOS to lock down our defensive and forward ends first. Midfield doesn't have to be the key right now. I'm prepared to take a little pain at the beginning of the second year of rebuilding.

Fair enough but without a decent midfield both ends will be under intense pressure.
The cupboard will be pretty bare without Gibbs unless we can trade in some experience and get some good draft picks.
The GWS deal is focused on KPP's and the best of the mids has a serious injury.

Michaelangelo Rucci article this afternoon

Rucci declared that no trade was happening and Adelaide had been cold shouldered, in an article that came out a couple hours before Adelaide and Carlton both released to the press that they were in negotiations.

He doesn't actually know anything, has had zero contacts anywhere in the industry since his one and only source, insiders at Port, black balled him 6 or 7 years ago. Coasting on less inertia than Robbo, and caught dozens of times lifting his rumours, "facts", and even word for word copying from BigFooty.

Presumably adelaide are trying to push Lyons on us because they can't afford to pay him if they get gibbs. He is uncontracted. He essentially has no value. We could just take him for free as a dfa if we really wanted him.

Solution:

Gibbs for #13 and Mitch McGovern..plus we pickup 50K of Gibbs' contract so they can pay Lyons to stay.

The more I think about it, the more Adelaide is going to have to find a third party to satisfy us in terms of compensation.

Its not pick 13 that is being rejected its the fact it is coming with a player who they have made enough noise to suggest they aren't interested in keeping and an unproven kid with a history of serious shoulder injuries.

If Adelaide thought that was enough to get another one from us either they seriously dismissed Silvagni or this was only there first offer in a series of escalating suggestions.

Hell if we were able to secure the drafting rights to the Jarman kid that would prick a few ears up.

I prefer tantrum Styxx, he had character.

So essentially...

CARL (IN): 8, 13 (OUT): GIBBS, 24
GC (IN): LYONS, 24 (OUT): 8
ADEL (IN): GIBBS (OUT): 13, LYONS

If you were Gold Coast would you do 8 for Lyons and 24?

Or are you suggesting 13, 24, and Lyons to GC?

I think Carlton are pissed off that your list manager announced it before we were ready.

If this was because of a reaction to Rucci's article...to put him in his place...it probs hasn't helped relations between clubs for a lil bit.

I don't think Adelaide really announced it early, and I don't think Carlton is really pissed off either. I think an in principle deal has already been struck, but the moving parts depend on one or two other trades being completed first, or another player being used as a chip is yet to agree to terms, and the rest is window dressing.

WELL I'M ****ING PISSED OFF AND THATS ALL THAT ****ING MATTERS.

I agree the trade has been in the winds for awhile, but i'm pretty sure Adelaide jumped the gun on the announcement.

Nothing major, but just a bit irritating for Carlton i think.

That's all good. I'm not interested in calling all those people out and say they know nothing about footy like what was thrown at us for suggesting he may want to leave.

It's just a reminder that anything can happen and when a trade is suggested, people need to be more open minded.
All good mate, never actually said it myself but I think too many on here get too upset at differing opinions.
Let's just hope we are well compensated.
