Yes, but comparing the points isn't the benchmark for parity AFAIK, and nor should it be. We talk all the time here about how trades are not just one transaction but are best looked at holistically. This is an example of why.

EDIT: Also, I just find it annoying how much people talk about the points value of picks when it's irrelevant due to the above. I just picked that post to bring it up again. Could have been anyone's.
Why you pick on me so much? So mean.

It would have to be pick 3 and our 2018 2nd round pick for pick 7 and 8 surely...pick 3 and a 3rd is not enough for St Kilda.

And i think it only eventuates if Kelly chooses St Kilda and GWS want pick 3...so it's a very unlikely scenario.
Don`t know about that, depends on how bad they want it.......plus Bris last year swapped pick 2 for pick 3 and 17 I think it was with GWS, because they were trying to make sure that they got Taranto with pick 2. Just depends on their needs..........

Picks 2, 31, 51 and 60 for 3 and 16.

Don't really care if Rayner doesn't get to 3. LDU, dow or Rayner. Pick any all will be stars.

So there's a clear top 3?

Rayner the biggest risk vs reward with tank?

True. The beep score he has doesn't bode well for a midfield role in future BUT let's see how he goes with the yoyo and the 2km at the combine to have judgement. I'd prefer LDU. He's a player that you can't **** up by taking and he will probably win the NAB rising star in 2018 due to him being ready NOW. Great PR with our current list to distract from another bottom 4 finish.

If we did drop to 7&8 I'd be in favour of us using one of them to draft Fogarty. He'd be around that mark and is similar to Rayner in terms of being a large midfield/forward.

Also the fact that he's a Glenelg boy doesn't hurt my opinion of him :p

Sure, as a rough guide it has some value. But picks aren't currency and the drafting and trading periods aren't purely objective exercises in economics. A pick is only worth what you think is available in the draft at that number or what it can get you as a commodity on the trade table.

I have never ever understood why people want to use "points" as a rationale for doing or not doing a trade.

If the deal suits your needs and it nets you what you have set out to acquire, the points are totally irrelevant.

Points mean absolutely jack shit to teams without academy or f/s prospects. If sos decided he'd prefer 2 top 10 picks and st. Kilda decide they really want someone who will go higher than 7, a trade might happen.

It won't happen because st.kilda decide we want to turn this 3152 points worth of picks into 3178 because then we are so winning at this trading game.

The point system can be a handy guide to a degree, it does have some merit when discussing trade potential.

Although in the end it doesn't matter, because it depends on the player the club has identified with that pick they want, and how much they're willing to part with to get him. Can't put points on a players worth to a club.

Points aren't really a guide.
How perfect can the points system be and if it was perfect, it would have to change every year, draft dependent.

It may be a guide to some, but common sense and understanding of what's in the draft makes for a lot more sense.

If you have a tier 1 top 3 and tier 2 next 10, then a team may consider trading two tier 2 picks for one tier 1 pick. Really depends on how they grade the talent.

It can absolutely be used as a guide. Not in any way definitive or official, but in terms of throwing out trade ideas or helping to understand late swapping of picks etc. it can help to see the value to a degree.

As I originally said though, in the end it doesn't matter as the player targeted is the main crux of the deal which you can't put a point value on. But in terms of late swapping of picks value can be identified by using the point system, up to a certain point.

That kid is going to be a the steal of the draft. Has champion stamped all over him. For mine it's between LDU and Fogarty and considering LDU butchers the kicks I'd be going with Fogarty. Imho Fogarty will grow into a Danger type mid

I just really hope he doesn't go to Port, I'd like to enjoy watching him play
